  1. I wouldnt say it was the promotion persay... If you are referring to the show put on then yes but when you dont have a crowd to pull in its hard.. its not the person its what people get from their entrance fee.. people want a winning team its a fickle business if people dont get a winning side they wont come to watch.. fans never really get much involvement with a promoter and from what i saw they never really spoke to the press it was always Lee Trigger who did the paper reports.. was that the problem ?? unsure... lets just hope who ever comes in is supported even if it is Mr Bowden and being in the National League I will say though an 8 man consortium scares me because Plymouth had a consortium before and you will never know who is in charge unless they decide a chain of command as desicions can be hard to be made the last consortium in Plymouth didnt work.. I really do hope Plymouth survive this and prosper..
  2. its already been quoted as there just isnt enough people coming through the gates for Premier League and no one will want to take a huge loss to see if they can get a crowd in.. yes it needs to be promoted properly and advertised properly but how much money would you want to loose while seeing if that can be done.. put your money in and see what happens !! I wish the new promotion the very best of luck in doing just that. raised gate prices of 15 quid a head for premier league verses less than a tenner for national league perhaps people will be more inclined to visit and see what the fuss is about for less than a tenner.. get them back get them hooked get the crowd back to what it once was and then make the move back up..if financially viable people with families just havent got all that disposable income these days loads of places are suffering.. make it cheaper to go and people may come back.. but do it while you are not creating a season of Premier League wages to cover.. and if you are thinking of incentives as in gate prices.. you still have to pay those riders prem wages where does that money come from ??.. the new promoters pockets thats where.. would anyone want to take it on and make a loss staright away and big losses..?? the old promotion have been quoting figures of £2,000 a week... £10,000 a month IN LOSSES... the sooner you get off the its premier league only the better the team will be.. yes its a shame to move down a league but other teams have done it and things have massivley improved and the racing isnt that far off i witnessed some fantastic racing in the National League around Plymouth and would still visit to watch it when I am back down that area. I may be wrong and the new owner keeps it in the Premier League but I hope they have deep pockets and a lot of patience the corwd just isnt there at the minute not saying it wont be in the future but i think National League is the way forward just my opinion of course
  3. its speedway and a winning side promoted properly will bring people back but not enough for premier league. I spoke with Ashely Taylor when I was down last and he said to me he was losing £2,000 a week minimum that is not a business model that anyone would want to sustain and in fact has been proven by them going into liquidation. I dont think for one second that the prem is gone and forgotten but without the level of support needed i think it will be a foolish choice to remian in the Prem until who ever owns the team gets things moving forwards get the business back on track with a decent bank balance. no one will want to loose money. I wish Plymouth all the best I have many fond memories of the track and the teams that rode for the Devils while I was there and I know if you went National League you will have a que of very good riders wanting to ride for the team. and a team who will put on a show just as good in racing terms as some premier meetings.. yes you wont get some of the top riders there but that hasnt shown to be a factor in getting people through the door..
  4. No i havent.. I have said from the outset Premier is not viable at Plymouth it was shown from the very first year.. and now the current guys have gone into liquidation they didnt have the people coming through the gates.. and didnt pay the riders their full money i believe kyle newman is still owed money if you cannot pay your riders that shows me it isnt viable. so a drop down to the national league means a drop in wage bill keep the people coming through the gates.. get back into a profit model for the business build on that do well in the national league and bring back the bigger crowd then and only then when it is fully stable make the move up again.. nothing contradictory about that statement and its the same statement i made on the first post on this thread.
  5. Premier league is not viable the people are not coming through the gate.. a new owner at least would want to break even not lose thousands a week.. if premier league was viable the owners wouldn't be going into liquidation.. It is a great track but I think a step down to national league get a crowd back and then step back up if viable.. that's a business stance.. it has to be a viable option and obviously with what has happened it's shown it isn't
  6. yep thats me.. Yes Mike has pee'd a lot of people off but lets be straight its not a popularity contest its someone who can come in with knowledge of the business at hand.. the riders and the Plymouth area.. as much as i hate to say it as I dont deal with the family at all any more through personal reasons he seems the best man for the job unless someone else out there with suitably deep pockets and knowledge of the sport comes in.. let be honest I know mike would never ever come back into the sport if he felt he couldnt make any money at it he is that kind of person he always said he would never pay for someone else to have a good evening.. that didnt just extend to the general public.. I have no dealings with the Bowden family at all i left the area a long time ago but my heart will always be with Plymouth and have been down a few times recently and took in a meeting while down there not so long ago seems the atmosphere has gone from the place.. but hold your hands up guys while we all dislike bowden he made that place and run it very well until he went premier league he just isnt professional enough for the prem.. but with the right team behind him and limited dealings with the press etc and if he gets back to putting back on a show for people it may just work..dont let the dislike for him stop you from supporting the team. As someone said earlier i would never line bowdens pockets.. think of it you get to keep speedway in Plymouth and a team you can get behind and you dont loose a sport a lot of you love in the local area through the dislike for the owner
  7. I don't really have a lot of nice things to say about him I could tell you a lot that I know.. But all that aside he brought the sport back to the area yes he did loads wrong but who doesn't when you do something new he didn't have the support I think last time and certainly did things wrong to failure.. not related to him at all look on facebook mattie bates showed support for Bowden a lot of riders were treated very well by him.. he did things way to public because he loves the limelight... I just personally think he could well be the best shot Plymouth has for its future but we will see what happens won't we.. all I hope is that it will be saved and prosper and I also think whoever takes it over needs to go NL and not pander to these people who thinks it's poor quality. Let's be straight who else in Plymouth or the surrounding area has the funding... the knowledge of riders and the sport and most of all the trust of a lot of riders apart from you all thinking and quite rightly so he can be an idiot which he was.. let's hope he has changed and brings it back with a good team of people around him and makes it successful.. If not him I hope you all support whoever takes it on and let's hope they all do things the right way for you all.
  8. i certainly think NL is the only option for the time being as it will offer whoever comes in a leg up into the speedway world and it wont have the huge costs involved.. if it was my money i would want to take the team on bring it back to the NL with a lesser cost involved get the crowd back without having to pay PL wages with not enough coming through the gates.. get the gate back up to what it should be and stable and at that time and that time only think about going PL and only if you are prepared to have a potential loss firstly. I dont think Bowden is the only option but at this moment until someone else comes out to say we have bid and introduces themselves he is the only person you can see trying.. and with his knowledge of 1) speedway 2) riders 3)the track itself.... then someone else is going to have a uphill battle unless it is someone like Mr Ford from Poole... People need to realise for Plymouth to get back to once it once was it needs a step down to rebuild and not see it as a poorer product.. get a great team back in a winning way bring the crowd back with decent advertising and build a strong business.. ready for the step back up when the business is ready..
  9. The liquidators will put the business into the hands of someone with inherent knowledge of the business unless there is another speedway person involved in doing it.. but frankly PL is not the way any person with sense will go and if they do either they have a lot of money they are willing to loose or will quit after a season or maybe two.. Yes Bowden is in the papers about it. ..you put it as they are going quietly about their business but he is creating hype about it keeping it in the news as something positive if you wish to take a negative view then that's fine your opinion.. what ever restructuring happens the person taking over the club needs to be in the know to make sure they use that effectively.. We will see what happens I just hope if Bowden gets it people with this narrow minded view about him still go through the gates to support the team.. One side note at least you know about Bowden a new guy could be worse and if doing this discretely you will never know what they are doing... just a twist on it
  10. it wont be my team manager.. but that will be Lee's choice.. he did a superb job with the team the past few years if he didnt then I am sure someone else would do it with as much passion well i hope they would.. so let me get this right.. everyone moans oh no Plymouth may be gone not good times... then someone who previuosly took the team in the National League to lead the NL and have some very memorable battles with Scunny etc.. you all bad mouth it.. that is why this sport is going down hil.. instead of backing the guy who you may not have confidence or like very much when he wants to save speedway.. you would rather bad mouth that guy.. why should he bother.. let the team die into the dust.. then you will all have something more to moan about..
  11. I think you are de-valuing the National league some very good racing in the National League and a winning side will bring the crowd back.. its the same at most clubs not got a winning side people flee.. when Plymouth had a National League side they were extremely succesful and the crowds were there.. went into the Premier League not a winning side and people left silly i know but its a fact.. and its not putting money into Bowdens pocket its keeping Plymouth Speedway alive and racing and you say people dont trust him it is only the people who got into a position to hear certain things from one or maybe two sources who hears bad things... yes he is not great at most things but running a team with the right help and the right PR I think it will be fine (well I hope it will) if you speak to many riders who rode for him none (apart from one who it was well documented) will tell you bowden treated them poorly they were always paid and paid well. I dont think PL is viable in Plymouth that has been shown to be a fact and any promotion who takes over needs to start from the beginning and build it back up at that will mean the National League if you want Plymouth Speedway to succeed then you have to be realistic and back whoever comes into the promotion and whatever league you go into.. its people with views like yours that will help the failing of the team just my opinion
  12. Mike Bowden has a very firm financial backing.. yes his PR is not great but i hope he has changed in 4 years or gets someone to do that side.. he can organize he did well enough to build the place and get it open every weekend and get riders every where.. motivation comes from the team manager and with Lee at the helm thats also fine.. http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/mike-bowden-makes-his-move-to-save-city-speedway-club-plymouth-devils/story-29822816-detail/story.html good luck to Mike i hope he gets it back and brings back the 800+ crowd and gives Plymouth a team to be proud of again.. Mike in fact worked very well with the other local teams i remember them going to Plymouth Argyle and ripping up and down the side of the pitch at the half time break on the bikes..
  13. i quite agree he never thought about anything before he did it and always said exactly how he felt no matter who it would hurt even the team.. hopefully he has learnt from that and if he gets another go he makes a better go at it than last time. I would rather see Plymouth back on track in the NL with bowden at the helm than the track be torn down and it go back to being a field.. or if a miracle happens someone else comes in.. which i doubt really funny place Plymouth it will take someone very special
  14. Wasn't that what was supposed to happen with the out going promotion..??? Seems they didn't make it work either.. Maybe you are right maybe you are wrong would you rather no speedway then.. seems you know what Bowden did and didn't do do you have some inside information then ??
  15. Thats your opinion what Bowden did for Plymouth Speedway is a lot.. yes he rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way but the biggest mistake he made was moving to prem early.. easy mistake to make and one you wont know unless you have the power of hindsight.. but had a great crowd in the NL and i think he is the only hope for plymouth to come back to life. there is no one else who could do it.. and why dont you think bowden will get another license ??
  16. I actually think mike could bring back speedway in Plymouth and do very well as well.. he has the contacts and the people who will sponsor the team. just got to hope he has reigned himself in with how he may treat some people.. but he is Plymouths best chance at recovery.
  17. Mike0310 they said that about the current one.. I personally think they wont be back unless someone with deep pockets to give it a year of losses to try and gain what bowden had in the NL back as bad a promoter he was he could certianly get the sponsors on board his major failing was he opened his mouth with the wrong words coming out lol.. if he didnt do that i would be seeing the team already in the NL building it back up. in fact an edit.. http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/mike-bowden-still-waiting-on-a-figure-to-save-plymouth-devils/story-29797395-detail/story.html
  18. I wonder if bowden will step back in.. i know one of the sponsors didnt renew his large investment because they never did any advertising and certainly no plugging of their company but still took the money.
  19. i persoanlly think whatever the team won it should be given out according to what they scored.. its the way it should be pay the riders for what they achieved.. why should a rider who could of potentially scored nothing be given the same as a rider who scored 19.. think if this is indeed right he has a good reason to be p1ssed off and i would have done the same thing.. but thats me and it is in fact exactly what i would do not defending Tai and i think anyone would agree.. you dont have that arrangement in league racing..
  20. get a room you two.. although your posts are very well worded The Mockingjay I feel they are wasted.. you are obviously highly educated as your grammer and punctuation is spot on.. but please dont expect everyone to pay the same attention to detail as you do.. i certainly dont i post quickly and never really pay much attention to it because most people on here dont either.. I do feel your post is a reaction to the person not the post and i feel that is to your detriment.. be the better person and attack the post not the person and if you get the name calling use the report button. and so he should be.. he doesnt ride for you and to be honest he wouldnt talk to you either.. he rides for himself and his world title hopes.. and so he should do.. and the british fans is what he thinks about but racing and making money from it is what concerns him he is doing a great job for wolves and i hope he carries it on but we will have to wait and see what happens.. although seeing all the posts of gratitude on twitter and facebook thanking him for staying behind for selfies and autographs with his fans after the double header speaks volumes to me he loves his fans very much. no matter what the lad decides to do i will always support him no matter what any of you say about him everyone is going to feel different about him but that doesnt bother me as much as it wont bother him.. you are so vocal on here but you have had so called many opportunities to confront him and tell him how you feel you didnt take it.. all words really and they dont matter..
  21. this is now getting beyond a joke.. i understand everyone has a different view.. but is there really any need to be name calling.. you all sound like children in a play ground.. grow up people understand everyone can and will have a different view than yours and it is futile trying to get someone to waive their view for you.. sensible debate has gone out of the window recently with any post about Tai.. someone posted Tai doesnt care about what people think.. and i can tell you.. you are bang on right people out there love him see him on Monday with all his fans taking selfies and signing autographs the people out there love him.. you guys might not but he is concerned over the people who go to see him ride his bike and you know what he will continue to do it no matter what you guys on here say about him as he said for every single person who slates him he has thousands who love him.. rant over.. again another Tai thread that has turned stupid.
  22. does well here but is no where in the GP's. i dont need to apologies.. although i didnt hear about the crash.. i hope he is ok.. he is a nice guy.. but if it will make you happy SS... I am sorry lol
  23. i was trully amazed that hans and holder wasnt at the second meeting they both looked fine.. hans to be out for the rest of the season is rubbish.. pay off so they can get someone else in i guess.. stinks of cheating.. cannot understand how that can be allowed at all...
  24. I cannot believe this is still going.. lol
