The Ricoh currently has 3 clubs using it as it's home. Wasps Rugby, Wasps Netball and CCFC. It's also held Rugby League (international and club) and also Snooker in recent months.
-
Bizarrely Hemsley joined the Save Cov Speedway Facebook page the other day.
-
It's what it says 😂
-
It seems they haven't "moved on" despite what Heaver has said, another back track from him. We will get some news next week hopefully.
-
Speedway Gb tweeted "We acknowledge the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the club and we hope to bring you more early next week"
-
It was spoken about at Save Cov Speedway meetings. The site is massive and for its future it needs more locals and businesses to use it. Doctors, Dentists, a gym, a nursery etc could be built on the site and not take that much space. There it's lots of ways to go if there is a will to do it.

Those things get a budget from central government and that money is ring fenced to spend on that only. Not everything a council will do will help the whole area it runs, that's impossible. If a council looks at something and think it could potentially damage an area it can look into it and see if it's worth putting money in to it. If residents of Binley Woods, Brandon and other areas around the stadium want it saved then why shouldnt them areas have some of the money they contribute in council tax. Of course it has to be worth it but just because the majority of the Rugby population don't care doesn't mean it shouldn't happen. If they took the compulsory purchase order as a serious option they wouldn't have to buy the whole site would they?
-
We just want a track that's safe to run, the rest doesn't matter and can wait. It must be quite easy to set up a mobile bar or 2 (like Belle Vue) and get a couple of burger vans in.
-
That crossed my mind when it was said Horton and Cllr Stokes were having discussions. They could then buy Sandhu's fixture and fittings if he indeed was happy to sell.
-
I get the feeling well will at least start the season at Leicester. Does Hemsley still own the stadium?
-
There's a few people you could blame for this.
-
Yes but how many years ago was that? Must be 70 years. Would it be worth potentially alienating a large part of the fan base with a change of name considering Speedway is struggling for fans as it is?
-
Coventry council don't claim the Bees name do they? It's not even in their jurisdiction so not sure what they can do in this situation? They can only help if there is a new site is available. Poor that you find it so easy to suggest a name change, it's not like the local economy don't benefit from having the stadium there. Cllr Stokes is trying all he can because he knows how much COVENTRY Bees and COVENTRY Stox can help the area.
-
We certainly haven't taking it lying down. We've had meetings with the relevant people over the last couple of years, shame only one party has failed to attend any so far.
-
They rent the Ricoh Arena from Wasps. Rumours they will move to the home of Coventry Rugby's Butts Park Arena but that'll need serious renovation. The move to Northampton didn't work at all, most games only 2,000 attended.
-
It's a local paper not the Guardian. Some of the stuff they found in the Sisu/council debacle was excellent. I agree Dave Rowe does an excellent job for us.
-
Over 10,000 people have got in touch with Rugby Council about the issues at Brandon.
-
Rugby Council say one option open to them is a compulsory purchase order but that's a long way down the line.
-
Has anyone been at the stadium in the last few days?
-
I think Brandon Estates employ a 'spokesman' to talk to the media. The paper is very good at investigating things, they've found some interesting stuff about CCFC owners Sisu and what they are doing. I have asked them to have a look but don't know if they are. Its difficult to find out about directors and shareholders when the company is based in Jersey. Some say that's convenient.
-
The problem is the dispute between Brandon Estates and Sandhu, that needs sorting before anything else can proceed. I guess Horton can't do much or release any information until then. To be honest personally I'd rather they wait until they give us actual news instead of the stuff we've had from Sandhu + Heaver and Brandon Estates, their recent public media spat can't help any negotiations. They've also contradicted themselves more than once trying to spin the situation. I don't care about any of that that, I just want news on whether we are running or not.
-
I have zero faith that we will run, I have very little trust in any of them.
-
"We understand the concerns over the lack of official club updates over recent weeks regrading future plans- the situation is a complex one which involves continual intensive negotiations, however we remain committed that the club will be on track in the 2017 season" "Our best wishes for the festive season and as soon as there is genuine news to report we will do so"
-
Coventry City Council ran the Ricoh Arena for 10 years before Wasps bought it. I'm sure there are other councils that do the same.
-
There was no application, the council advised that an application would likely fail. This is pretty much spot on I think. A move to Leicester would only work if fans were fairly convinced it would only be for a year and that we would be racing in Coventry the following season. Otherwise what's the point?
