Swindon 2016 - A New Era Starts...we Thought..
Woz01 replied to dump that clutch's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I leave work in Baginton at 6.20pm, home to Wyken to pick up family and still get to Brandon by 7. Friday evening traffic seems less busy to me in the City because many places do half day or shorter hours on a Friday. I get that the motorway network would be a nightmare though. -
I believe Rugby Council do want to keep the sport in the area. The local MP is part of the Speedway parliamentary group.

Even if a site is bought in the next couple of months it will then be a long process to get planning permission. We'd be lucky to buy a site, get planning permission and build a stadium in 18 months.

Good post. It might not be needed yet but it is likely. Horton during the interview was talking hypothetically of course nothing is set in stone as yet. We all waiting for the announcement at Christmas where this site is
-
I know these people would be 50+ but that's the mentality of a 5 year old.
-
If they do a draft then the riders should be positioned where they ended up on the tier list at the end of last season despite what average they start on.
-
Looked a talent in 2014 but when noticing his scores it seems he went backwards in 2015.
-
I'm pretty sure Bomber would want to ride for Coventry during the last season at Brandon.
-
It shouldn't work that way now averages are being used.
-
Very doubtful but stranger things have happened! We get these rumours every year.
-
No room at all I'm afraid. I went there during the summer to watch Coventry Bears RL team and only spare room is the other side of the pitch from the main stand which could possibly hold another stand. Either ends of the pitch the room is minimal. Shame really as the old Butts stadium when i was a kid was certainly big enough. It had a cycling track on the outside and the inside of that was a speedway like track with a football pitch in the middle. Apartments and the Butts Park Arena have since been built on the site. Of course its also a residential area.

Of course we will never compete with the Ricoh but even Ice Hockey and Coventry Rugby has far better corporate opportunities. No one knows what the plan is (if any) but Heaver has said for need of more corporate and better facilities for fans thats why I mentioned it. We might get an idea on what standard stadium we get if/when the site is announced, just a thought.
-
Id certainly go for a couple of years if there was movement on a new stadium to do my bit help keep the club alive Upside is simple, if their was a new stadium being built on a smaller site the council will look more favourably on a planning application for Brandon. Also dont forget Sandhu and Heaver hold a license for Stox which makes them money and attracts huge crowds. New stadium with better facilites attract much more corporate and sponsorship opportunities, I love Brandon but it doesn't attract much of that even more so with the sports and facilities they are up against in the City. Dont get me wrong I'm sceptical like the rest but i can see why a business man would do it that way instead of just keeping Brandon Stadium.

Of course there is a good number of Bees fans where Leicester is probably more convenient for them. A good percentage of Bees fans are not based in Coventry. Something would need to be done to help fans get there but that bridge will be crossed should it needed to be done.
-
It could be the greatest thing to happen to the club but could also be the worst, its all up in the air. If we do need a temporary move then the club would need to provide transport to get fans to come along.
-
The biggest drop in average award?
-
Were told we would know the site by Christmas. Hopefully that promise will be kept and we can start to see things moving.
-
Has crossed my mind that Sandhu would want to be in charge of both Speedway and Stox at a new stadium, he'd want maximum revenue to pay for it. Rugby council have said they are keen for the sport to remain in the area. I can see some positives that a new stadium will happen but without a site and firm plans its hard not to feel pessimistic.
-
Obviously not put off then!
-
Part of the reason why I said it'll work for a year or two. I can understand a short term move but it would only work if their was movement about building a new stadium. Why would fans bother going to Leicester after a year or two if there wasn't something for us to look forward to?
-
Pretty much knew all that didnt we. Highly unlikely a new stadium will be ready in 2017 even if they do announce the new site by Christmas. Horton is just exploring options because lets face it Horton doesn't have the means to build a new track, we are basically at the mercy of Sandhu and Heaver to provide that. A temporary move to Leicester would only work for a year or two.

Yeah I'm hoping because it'll be absolutely ridiculous to have a list based on average when Summers is over 6.5 but rode as a 2nd string on the list but Lindgren riding as a heatleader getting 6.1 not on the list. What the point in the list if its every rider over 6.5, you'd just say you can only sign 3 riders over 6.5.
-
There is no 6.5 limit for the heatleader list. No point having the list if that was the case. Hans rode more meetings as heatleader than King also.

Think he said he was road racing next year but it wouldn't surprise me.
