Yes think it might have been a newspaper report of the meeting describing dirt or grit getting showered as the riders went round the bends. Nothing 100%, but evocative of sliding
-
Think I posted a link a few years back that suggested quite possibly

Luca Bauer will ride as an Italian again this season. Doing two Swedish League meetings before the WC quali in Sweden https://www.speedweek.com/eisspeedway-racing/news/153152/Luca-Bauer-aergert-sich-Zu-kalt-zum-Trainieren.html

Always thought it was Jones and Brinck was his pupil. Would be easy to solve if there are pics of Jones leg trailing before Brincks career started, although It still wouldn't prove categorically that Jones invented the style The answer probably isn't here, but it is an amazing site covering the early US motorcycle racing period http://archivemoto.com/archive Some interesting comments on this story about laying the bike over and also the bit about not sliding, so obviously the others were sliding http://archivemoto.com/thearchive/2019/1/31/in-his-own-words-morty-graves

Tobi Busch posted that due to family problems he wouldn’t be doing ice speedway this season
-
See Tobi Busch has stated Poole contacted him, but he had to turn down the offer for personal reasons

Not really gone into depth on that. Just a quick glance showed what seems to be a problem with local weather during the speedway season and it made me wonder when this MotoX GP is held....3rd of March !!! Which obviously makes sense looking at the weather and looking at the GP season it starts earlier in MotoX and even that was the first one. -
One hell of a chip you are carrying to bring up the 70s !!!! How many times have you given up on this place ? More comebacks than Sinatra

Interesting piece on Jim including the tragic story of his great friend Gordon Guasco https://amcn.com.au/editorial/where-are-they-now-jim-airey-king-of-the-speedway-royale/

It is also interesting, although I had already seen the article on Langton claiming he was the rider who started the foot forward style. Fairly sure in the contemporary report of the time (1929) that it stated Lees was the one who invented the style. So I wonder where this came from? I have never looked tbh to see if there are contemporary reports supporting the claim about Langton or whether it popped up later Of course this was 1937, but the back of Gingers card also gives him the claim to first foot forward rider. But pretty sure, although I must check that the local papers in Hamburg were giving him credit back in 1929 and they must have got all their press info from England https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SPEEDWAY-RIDERS-No-28-GINGER-LEES-PLAYERS-CIGARETTE-CARD-ISSUED-1937-/254206080294

Nah, one will be in Argentina. He won’t let that dream drop -
Do we have a definite date he died for Eric? Wiki seems a bit confused with 1999 and 2001 being mentioned https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Langton

Roger Frogley was one of the early English riders who really got going and could battle it out with the Australians in those first few years
-
Of course, that is why I wondered how the fans of the period rated Langton and Parker against each other and compared to the other riders of the time. How journalists of the period rated them. That would probably be more enlightening than how or someone else who never saw them rated them
-
Would be interesting in some cases to see how fans voted, if they ever did back in the 40s or 50s. Not only at Belle Vue, but a lot of the clubs

Interesting rider Sid. One of the 2 top Americans along with Art Pechar in those early years. Came over to Hamburg in 1929 when he was serving a ban in the UK. Big crowd turned up to see him challenge Ginger Lees, who was the 'local' favourite and track specialist and he apparently gave Lees little chance. Turned up at the start of the next season billed as 'world champion' !!! Which he apparently won in Argentina, I think. Class act and very exciting

Arthur didn't come up against Elder much in the first season though, did he? And often in big clashes of the time, it ended in an anti-climax of one or even both having bike problems. Talking generally here, rather than specifically about Arthur

(Some) Japanese Speedway on C4

Yes. Back in the 60s on dirt, which is when they switched over to tarmac or concrete or whatever -
Looks like the Inn-Isar team are still hoping for a change of heart and obviously trying through the media to put a bit of pressure on the local council https://www.wasserburg24.de/wasserburg/region-wasserburg/wasserburg-am-inn-ort63092/wasserburg-unklarheit-ueber-speedway-rennen-ende-dezember-eislaufbahn-13287628.html?fbclid=IwAR0MrtKGwgqCNK_FhfkvJld74zbp6BW5z6vNl6H-LM2vCdsRpQhj3Z44kGo

What is interesting is the Finn brothers from Split Enz,Crowded House, Fleetwood Mac and The Finn Brothers, come from that area as well. Maybe related ?
-
Missed your chance there. You should have told him there is a good book that tells the story.....
-
Another one of those stories.......someone wanted to do a little ice speedway exhibition show with Markus Jell and Celina Liebmann at a small skating rink on the 27th of this month in Bavaria. Printed leaflets out to promote it, only trouble is they hadn't asked the council for permission/permit. The council found out and put a stop to it and also said don't bother applying for permission. Ice speedway is too noisy and dangerous and doesn't fit the image of the town !!!!

Russia banned for four years
iris123 replied to uk_martin's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
How did they compete in say, Ice Hockey then ? Just send one bloke out? bwahahahahaha Castagna talks As I said yesterday the FIM have come to the same conclusion, that the GPs and the ice speedway GPs will go ahead as usual as they are signed under binding contracts https://www.speedweek.com/speedwaygp/news/152894/Sperre-fuer-Russland-Was-aus-den-Grands-Prix-wird.html -
See the thread in the SGP section. Russians are allowed to compete. No problems, even as a team. The team won’t be allowed to be called Russia though if FIM are under WADA regs Even in Events staged on Russia it most probably only effects new contracts. If a contract is legally binding then they aren’t asking promoters/ international bodies to get themselves into legal trouble and they certainly ain’t going to help out with funds !!!! This seems to be the situation with the F1 GP in Russia And Castagna basically confirms what I posted yesterday. GPs etc go ahead in Russia as planned https://www.speedweek.com/speedwaygp/news/152894/Sperre-fuer-Russland-Was-aus-den-Grands-Prix-wird.html

Russia banned for four years
iris123 replied to uk_martin's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'd guess if there was any problem then we would hear about the Russian F1 GP having problems first. If we hear nothing then I would say speedway has no problem either. In fact found something which seems to state no problems for F1 or any such event where contracts have already been signed and it is legally impossible to cancel So this season and next would at the very least be ok if there is a contract with BSI. The new guys wanting to have new contracts could possibly have some trouble.......maybe Russia are hosting a few rounds of the FIM ice speedway world championships early next year. That would be a tester of the ruling. Plus Russia are due to field a team in the World Team Championships.... Of course it also depends at a basic level if the FIM speedway section comes under the WADA sanctions. I see that earlier in the year they dropped WADA from Supercross https://racerxonline.com/2019/08/28/wada-out-fim-approves-simplified-anti-doping-procedure-for-supercross
