Doesn't that to a large extent though answer your question ? He must be remembered by modern fans, as there is a book about him that I think sold quite well. I consider myself a modern fan. I was born some 30 years after Tom had died, yet I have heard of him and bought the book. I also go to speedway and intend to attend more meetings in the future. Whereas I can't really consider you to be a modern fan, since it is some 15 or so years since you last attended, and by all accounts have no intention of attending in the future As you say, you don't recall much mention of Tom, but attended a memorial meeting or two in honour of the man. What more mention of him are you expecting ? And how many people did you talk to at those meetings ?

The thing is, for big meetings, you generally need someone who is willing to put up big money. Tracks rely on a few decent sponsors, and that is where Norden is at a big disadvantage. Sponsors are generally to be found in the local community or want to gain from the local community, and there isn't much of that in the area. Think the track is basically just ticking over, with a couple of meetings a year, plus plenty of training days One of the last, maybe the last half decent meeting held there was an U21 World Championship qualifier, when Ricky Wells was a bit of a shooting start on the scene, from memory

So what is our conclusion on that one then ?
-
And was there a book written about Cyril or one being mooted, I wonder ?

I see they wanted to ban riders wives the season after Tom died. One of the reasons given was it makes riders nervous. Another mentioned Tom’s wife was in the stands watching as he crashed

See Aakko and Stenlund have pulled out of Bauer’s meeting

Of course you will ignore the post, because nobody is confusing anything apart from your dear old self

Talking on his FB, site it seems Egon doesn't have fond memories of his time at Hull. The travelling was a nightmare, so it seems. But he was laughing about getting injured and Brian Larner sent him to a somewhat dodgy Massage Parlour........

Not sure anyone is confusing this site with the Speedway Museum ? Can you pint out any posts that have done ? I think the only one who can be accused of confusing things is yourself, after all, you have posted this and other links to this site in the Speedway Museum section

Yeah, and it seems you are stuck in the mid-1950s, whereas the rest of the world has moved on. Nothing has changed with the website either. It sill looks amateurish two years on......
-
No just you scoring yet another own goal. The song remains the same..... You used the old ‘well known technique in journalism’ excuse when you got caught with 3 or 4 aliases talking to yourself on here and elsewhere....

Is there a feeling that there has to be a cut off date for something certain to have happened? Year after year of saying we are looking for a place to build a stadium can’t be an ideal situation. And maybe there was a feeling some of these clubs were getting nowhere? But in all honesty I can’t see the harm at the level we are talking about. Call these teams what you like imo

I think ‘own goal’ is the saying that applies to someone who goes back a couple of years to ask a question that has been answered already

Interesting that the photo in the wonderful book on Farndon of all the people around his bike in NZ was actually an inspection by ACU officials to check it was within the regs after he smashed ‘Squib’ Burton’s track record..... it was and the new record stood !!
-
Think there is a lot of truth in the bike being the major factor, rather than track. Heard Egon a few times say how he rode the thing round country lanes to get the set- up right and got stopped by the old bill once. They immediately recognized him and let him carry on. So it wasn’t as if he was just riding the track to get things perfect

Sounds a bit like Ward and Holder with Smolinski....

You asked a question, which you asked way back and you got the answer. Why keep going over the same things again and again ? Abd you certainly have no reason to be sarcastic about who or who doesn’t have a ‘valued opinion’ with some of the stuff you come out with and even admitting you don’t do research !!!
-
Thought it was debated enough a while back ? Wasn’t the conclusion it was amateurish and full of mistakes ?

If someone has a ‘self-designated task’ it seems to be yourself and putting at least one link a day to this site .

Flashing over the line to a flying start, tearing onto the first bend, three international speedway riders were almost locked together in a sensational burst for the lead in the principal event of the night. Then from the outer, an extra flash, right across the path of the central figure of this stirring battle, and - crash ! From out of a shower of cinders a rider was flung headlong on to the track. This was sensational enough, but it formed only a small part of the thrills and spills of the meeting staged at the Kilbirnie Stadium Speedway on Saturday night. The unfortunate in that episode was Tom Farndon, a noted English rider, making his first appearance in New Zealand. Earlier in the evening Farndon had given evidence of his undoubted ability, although he was probably then little more than feeling his way and reserving his best for this important final to the evening's events. His mastery of the art of cornering showed him up as a most spectacular broadside, the bends being negotiated with the machine leaning over at an exceptional angle. That was one local newspapers description of NZ's first sight of Tom

I can't really answer that one at the time, as I wasn't here, in fact, at the time Egon won his title I had lost my interest in the sport, to some extent. Think I only went toa couple of meetings in '83 and came back as an interested spectator in '84. He did have a big spat with Peter Schroeck's father on the internet a few years back(he has had quite a number of arguments on the internet over the years), and it seems this was one of the reasons. Schroeck senior accuses him of not doing enough as world champ. But over the years he is regularly on tv and promoting himself, but also speedway. Apart from Smoli in Bavaria nobody else seems to manage to get on tv, as often Then again, as I have mentioned before, the DMU stated that there was no gain from Nicki winning his last title. No boost in attendances etc. But Denmark have had so many titles

Strange this link works for me, but Gustix is saying previous ones don’t work The ‘forgotten’ museum site, that must have more links to it than all the other websites in the world put together
-
Slightly unfair on Egon. There was a previous final hen he was in with a fair chance of a rostrum spot think. Rain affected, Gothenburg, when he had 5 from his first 2 rides....But he never concentrated on speedway The stadium is a complete mystery to me how they built such a giant stadium out in that area and kept it going all these years

Found a rather strange and in this day, worrying report that apparently Asquith competed in motorcycle Bullfighing in Madrid, 1932. Apparently her pillion passenger killed several bulls
