Not really sure what you mention has anything to do with the speed week article, which was written after the German Championship on Thursday and practice on Friday.Which is why I guess at things being asked for by the FIM for the next few days I.e Saturday and Sunday
-
Guess it is. But their position before was 'unreasonable' were demands made to Berlin that weren't expected at other venues...... But as I say, a pure guess on my part
-
Don't really make it clear. Just the co-operation between Berlin and the FIM wasn't smooth and they expect professionals and they (FIM) aren't professional https://www.speedweek.com/eisspeedwayteamwm/news/155831/Eisspeedway-Berlin-Laienhafte-Mitarbeiter-der-FIM.html If I was to take a guess, going by previous years, then it is unreasonable demands on the promotion....... but hey ho

I see Berlin have yet again criticised the FIM officials......seems like every year the same story. We had them back out of FIM meetings for a couple of years and then go back. Groundhog Day

Birmingham Brummies 2020

And head the ball means a right daftie....i.e too many balls to the head, which is why they have nowbanned youngsters from heading the baw -
Think I was going on the case in the 60s when they did and I think one or two riders rode under aliases to beat the ban. Which might have worked back then, but in this internet age wouldn't stand a chance of working. No doubt it was not enforceable by law even then, but the same as the threat of banning reigning world champion Barry Briggs from the world championship if he didn't tow the line and ride for Wimbledon it had the required effect. As for challenging things, we have heard for years that the asset system wouldn't stand up to scrutiny, but nobody had dared or bothered to challenge it.....

Greg Hancock - happy retirement
iris123 replied to screm's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
His comments caused a bit of debate, with some saying ‘what planet is he on?’ And others asking ,what is he supposed to say ? ‘I’ll be happy if I don’t finish last’ !!! -

As I said before it looks that way. Why else would Smolinski be looking for a new mechanic for GP's etc at the end of January-start of Feb and also in the Poland/Czech area....... -
Polish and other Speedway videos 2025

French Speedway League today Morizes 41 - La Réole 42 with Michael Härtel and Chris Harris involved. Only individual heats available at the moment, so have to search the channel for them -
Also thought a group of riders ( was it one from each team?) brought out a record around 1974-ish Speedway Riders United or something. Sure Bert Harkins and possibly Scott Autrey were involved
-
Wouldn’t a problem come that not only tracks, but riders would be blacklisted. So riders would have to accept that they would only be able to ride in the NL with no extra income/doubling up...
-
I was trying to remember that one . Thanks for finding it

Egon Müller and Reg Luckhurst made a few records

Getting back to this. I wonder if it was just a bit of Hoskins publicity? It supposedly came from West Ham as a proposal and Wilkinson backed it up by saying he planned to get married when he had finished his career and not before

Don’t let the door hit your arris on the way out....

If I am correct I think they normally host their main meeting of the season on the Whitsun weekend
-
Well I remember Tommy Jansson and Ronnie Moore. What does that prove?
-
That is true. I started going to speedway in the 60s and regularly in the early 70s. Ove Fundin was riding, but not by the time I went regularly. But I don't recall one conversation about him. But what is that supposed to indicate ?
-
I think I get the point, but it is only relevant to gustix. Surely people all around you are constantly talking about TRick, Gollob and Mauger ? We have a decent thread remembering the man. What more can you ask for ?
-
I think that is probably right. You attended with some other youngsters. I wouldn't expect much talk about a rider you never saw amongst your group. But there were meetings in his honour. I'd guess the programme gave him a mention, the announcer probably, and i'd imagine it brought back memories and even talk among those fans who saw him ride. I don't expect it was generally talk of the town though
-
Doesn't that to a large extent though answer your question ? He must be remembered by modern fans, as there is a book about him that I think sold quite well. I consider myself a modern fan. I was born some 30 years after Tom had died, yet I have heard of him and bought the book. I also go to speedway and intend to attend more meetings in the future. Whereas I can't really consider you to be a modern fan, since it is some 15 or so years since you last attended, and by all accounts have no intention of attending in the future As you say, you don't recall much mention of Tom, but attended a memorial meeting or two in honour of the man. What more mention of him are you expecting ? And how many people did you talk to at those meetings ?

The thing is, for big meetings, you generally need someone who is willing to put up big money. Tracks rely on a few decent sponsors, and that is where Norden is at a big disadvantage. Sponsors are generally to be found in the local community or want to gain from the local community, and there isn't much of that in the area. Think the track is basically just ticking over, with a couple of meetings a year, plus plenty of training days One of the last, maybe the last half decent meeting held there was an U21 World Championship qualifier, when Ricky Wells was a bit of a shooting start on the scene, from memory
