Will British Speedway Survive ?
iris123 replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
No....here it is. Perfectly reasonable by any standards Not knowing you, I made the mistake of thinking a straight question would receive a straight answer.......know better next time -
In what order would you place these Aussie greats???
iris123 replied to Sidney the robin's topic in Years Gone By
Sure. But you are forgetting the assumption. You said if Crump snr had wheeled out the Street conversion at the world final he might well have won. I am just saying if any of those just out of the top wheeled out a major technical advantage they could also have won. It is a technical advantage and not the rider, who would have made the difference. Just as many assume it was Müller's fair or unfair advantages that won him the title. -

No. Again, to repeat myself. I asked you a perfectly reasonable question. How many riders are there? To starting post saying there are enough. You then made a strange response by telling me to look myself..........if you state something, it is perfectly reasonable to think you know the answer and if you look back, as I don't think it necessary to quote my post (it is there for all to see) it is absolutely justified to ask you that question...... You decide to not answer, but give a narky response. -

Having a look at 1977 i'd say if Finn Thomsen came out on a Street conversion on WF night and nobody else had one he could have taken the title. Only rider to beat Mauger...he could well have beaten all the others. Have to say that Müller fell in one heat of both 76 and 77 finals, so no matter what bike he was on he fell.... -

No I asked you a perfectly reasonable question I. e how many riders are there. You dodged and told me to work it out myself as it was so easy. You then took half a day yourself to come up with some fantasy number, not knowing if they are still riding nor willing to do anything other than local second halves etc -

Add to that the times when some rider has been sent to a team and dropped out because the traveling or track doesn’t suit them... -

You didn’t prove it, because you don’t know who has decided to retire or who wants to ride in a national league. You just counted every Tom, dick and harry who competed locally or ride a meeting last season -

Certainly if Müller came out on a street conversion when nobody else had one he could have won.He wasn’t miles away when they were all on roughly the same bikes -

You aren’t talking about rider skills there as much as a technical advantage. And you could say that about any top- ish rider. If they on the night had a major advantage over their opponents they might have won a title....... -
Will British Speedway Survive ?
iris123 replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It can’t. No account has been taken for riders who have retired or second halfers who aren’t willing or interested in traveling the length and breadth of the country to trail in way behind in every heat. And as you stated before nobody in any numbers is really interested in watching such meetigs. I have seen enough of that to last me a lifetime. Ok for a pittance. But I am not traveling miles and paying good money for that any more -

I guess people just think there are enough riders, when there aren’t. They also think there are enough fans with enough money , who want to watch any standard, when there aren’t... reality doesn’t play a part of it -

I would swap Crump snr and Adams, but apart from that agree Interesting would be to put Doyle in the mix and see where he would be placed or even Holder -

Shurely shome mistake !!! But we have had over a decade of diluting the product and where has that got us ? As you say, what the sport doesn’t need is more of the same..... -

I ain't got any memories of the speedway. Only ever ventured to Newcastle once and that was on the way back from Scotland with a group of pals. We stopped for a few drinks and a curry....never to return. But I did see a great piece about a Finnish woman who lived in Byker I think and took some great photos of the place

Never heard of it. I do know they need a lot of cox. Sure you have been in demand most of your life

Well I had a similar but better experience last summer. A beautiful polish woman ,who was very well equipped I must say (camera wise) started talking and seemed to want to show me all the hundreds if not thousands of photos (most very good) she had saved on her camera. It did get a bit tiring as I am not only looking for birds and insects or in this case an area where snakes and lizards are seen. She even invited me to join here the following days to one or two spots she knew including a place Eagle Owls are known. But tbh I was glad to finally get away....I couldn't get a word in edgeways

Bit of a dilemma for me. The spot I was hoping to go to for a bit of bird watching is in the next county and they have banned 'tourists'....so I don't know if me travelling over the border for a few hours counts as being a tourist. Did see one woman on FB ranting about day tourists though. The thing is, as I said before, I would just be in my car and have no contact with anyone. Whereas if I just go round by foot in my local area I have the problem of people coming up to me and talking to me, just like yesterday. An old guy who didn't look too healthy with his runny nose came up and asked if I had seen anything interesting and then carried on talking.........which normally annoys me anyway. Often I am stalking a bird trying to get a better look and then lose track f where it is. Or like the woman who came along with her dog when I had spent abut 20 minutes getting close to a kingfisher and she said quite loud 'i'm coming past.....oh,that was a kingfisher !' as it flew off . I really could have killed her
