  1. This is a discussion forum, to put our opinions and points across. You can always go and post elsewhere if you don't want to join in To add weight to my opinion, a journalist talking about the chances of the various motorsports world championships getting started, which is given weight by the previous link I put up somewhere from the MotoGP firm doing the same job there as BSI does for speedway, saying he was sceptical that the season could get going This guy states he doubts the Austrian F1 GP in July has a chance. The Austrian vice-president said he hoped it could, which might be possible without spectators,as the President himself said things won't get back to normal until a vaccine has been found..... https://www.speedweek.com/motogp/news/157628/Motorsport-Der-WM-Shutdown-wird-eine-Weile-dauern.html
  2. You could go the optimistic route and say that. The more realistic route listening to various leaders around Europe and beyond, is things won't get back to normal until we have a vaccine. And being optimistic, a vaccine isn't due until the Autumn.....we can all make of that what we want, but most sports seem to have given up on May, June is extremely optimistic and July/August unlikely unless you can hold events behind closed doors...
  3. Exactly. You can hardly start a ‘series’, until all the countries and their riders involved have opened up their borders and ok’d sporting events. Doubt any Polish rider for instance is going to leave their country until they know they will get back in ok, without having to spend 2 weeks in quarantine. That goes for all the others as well This seems to confirm what other countries have also been saying..., https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/coronavirus-lockdown-measures-uk-could-21853443?fbclid=IwAR1RxG-2nbfudPICIrd2UQJjk3cWZaAue9n1CT8yQcqyNvHKUBn6tRSFGxU
  4. Indeed. The big folk festival on Tønder has been called off as has a big festival to mark the 100th anniversary of the German/Danish border amongst other things The Tønder festival was planned for the end of August https://www.festivalsunited.com/festivals.php?op=showf&tonder-festival-2020&fid=7630 I also put up a link in the international section with an interview from Jacob Olsen saying he hoped to start speedway in June, but it wasn’t 100%, just a hope
  5. I was at the local Turkish supermarket earlier and it was all very strict there. I was very impressed.
  6. Again, it could well be hot spots. I see that the region of Tirol have kept the tough lockdown in certain areas where the outbreak is thought to have started such as Ischgl and Galtür until 26.04 Latest tests of 3,000 people show 19% positive said Günther Platter the local Bürgermeister or President of Tirol
  7. Also read that Lionel got a one year ban from driving soon after winning his world title
  8. Good stuff. Of course in the 1930s the departure and arrival of some of the top riders was of interest to the national press. Seen photos, a lot of Vic Huxley and his wife being photographed at Paddington Station etc as they leave or at the docks when they arrive
  9. Just wondering Steve, do you mean Van Praag left for Canada on 20.03.1936 or is it maybe 03.10.1936 ? I was reading he received 500 pounds for winning the title. Also that he fell in 5 out of 9 races after winning the title Seems he wasn't making as much out of the sport in 1936 as some of those earlier pioneers were. He reckoned 1,000 pounds a year, because 80% of his earnings went on the bikes and mechanics etc
  10. Teterow are waiting for the announcement by the government on 20th April. But they don't hold out much chance. They are thinking more end of September as a possibility. The Health minister was on tv earlier saying on the 20th they want to see how it goes with relaxing things, but only if at work for instance safety measures can be in place......but the very last thing to be relaxed would be clubs, festivals etc (although he didn't actually mention sporting events).... https://www.speedweek.com/grasbahn/news/157486/Bergring-Teterow-Eine-Terminverlegung-ist-unmoeglich.html But also interesting reading the Landshut press release saying they are disappointed that BSI/FIM decided to hold both SON semis in Latvia in September, but can understand the reason to some extent as it is unsure when the border will be open for foreigners.....so if BSI/FIM are unsure about end of September for Landshut, why can Teterow plan for then ? Unless they don't think hosting two big meetings in the same country at roughly the same time is wise.....which is reasonable
  11. So they didn’t have coke cans crushed on their shoes and were just playing around not really looking at the racing like most kids I see ? Maybe Eastbourne is something else, as Eddie Cochran sang
  12. Yes, I was thinking Russians and Czechs
  13. Some people.....not us. We are only speedway fans, the important 'some people' are those in government or health experts. I doubt many if any know what speedway is, but even if 'we' get back to work because we are then deemed 'essential' we just have to accept that sport and concerts most probably won't fall into that category This from yesterday's Guardian But, the researchers warn, if normal life is allowed to resume too quickly and the lifting of controls is too extensive, the reproductive number will rise again. Governments will need to keep a close watch on what is happening, they say. “Although control policies such as physical distancing and behavioural change are likely to be maintained for some time, proactively striking a balance between resuming economic activities and keeping the reproductive number below one is likely to be the best strategy until effective vaccines become widely available,” said Wu
  14. Guess it will all get complicated when the 'iron curtain' riders come of age, as it were. If there is much info about their d.o.b and death..
  15. Seems likely there will be no Moto GP series. The Austrian PM states he doesn't think there will be freedom of movement in Europe until a vaccine is found. And that isn't due until end of this year beginning of next I think https://www.speedweek.com/motogp/news/157364/Carmelo-Ezpeleta-GP-Saison-vielleicht-unmoeglich.html
  16. News here is that it is quite possible there won't be any Moto GP this season. https://www.speedweek.com/motogp/news/157364/Carmelo-Ezpeleta-GP-Saison-vielleicht-unmoeglich.html
  17. One expert Dr Alexander Kekule has said he thinks the football Bundesliga could possibly start playing games in closed stadiums as early as May. But that is as long as players, trainer and staff live in a closed bubble and have virus tests before each game As for other sports that can’t be financially viable on tv money alone he doesn’t hold out much hope for 2020.....
  18. Speedway researcher is the main website. But looking at that year I can only see Rybnik and Vargarna as touring sides. Maybe the year is wrong? https://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/yearbyyear.html
  19. https://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/1965record.pdf
  20. Not sure why you put me in there, as I was the one arguing with some guy who said going into a stadium full of fans would only affect one other person.........I said it would affect a lot more. And it seems recent studies have shown that sneezing or coughing will certainly spread the virus further than originally thought Then again the person arguing otherwise seems to have gone very quiet in the past few weeks. I won't bother asking for an apology from someone like you though. Must say, I am impressed with your use of the quote facility
  21. Jacob Olsen talking about the pandemic and the effect on the Danish League . SES have already had to give their new event manager the sack and hope they might be able to start a shorter season in June !!! https://www.nordschleswiger.dk/de/sport/jacob-olsen-laesst-sich-nicht-ausbremsen?fbclid=IwAR2CYP9XkC2l_10YHL4Jw0uSorDP1um5aKT6oylAaCuUp8COSVdul0Z5_68
  22. Well this article from one politician states a partial lifting of the lockdown at the end of April, but not a full lifting of restriction for a long time. So make of that what you will https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/04/03/germany-has-a-low-coronavirus-mortality-rate-heres-why.html I would hope we are sort of getting back to normal end of May . But unless a vaccine turns up out of thin air, I doubt we will see mass gatherings by then
  23. Seems my local club, Brokstedt are looking at October for a meeting
  24. Of course we know the famous case of Björn Knutson having his name spelt wrong all over the shop and the now notorious case of Mason Weir(Wear)or is It now Mayson I know I have made some blunders if there was a late replacement that I didn’t know and only had the stadium announcers pronounciation over a dodgy tannoy to go by Wonder how many in the early days wrote Ivan Major in their Programmes ?
