2020 FIM Long Track

France banned all sports until September..... One of the bosses at Dortmund saying that Germany should show the rest the way and how great they are, by............letting the Bundesliga start up again -
It is an interesting one. Seems if gustix was there, he can't remember much about it. I guess it is also possible they had a speedway track built on the same area, even inside the long track ? I think there are one or two examples of this today ? Herxheim and Parchim ? Ludwigslust did have two tracks side by side until the long track was turned into a MotoX track I guess Ann Schindler is the person to contact. Seems she did another talk with a couple of the riders from that era, pus photos and film, this year. Maybe more are planned ? https://homburg1.de/homburg-erbach-multimedia-vortrag-ueber-das-legendaere-erbacher-sandbahnrennen-im-saalbau-88165/

2020 FIM Long Track

That is an important question about riders allowed to leave their country. The health minister has stated there won’t be any normal Summe holidays. They have finished bringing people back from other countries and they don’t want to have to do it all over again. But of course riders are doing a job rather than going on holiday. So will they be ok or not ? But I think France is more relaxed on that even though they have been hit harder ? -
Seems your friend must have missed a talk about the track and the races that was held late last year. But here is a report. It wasn't a speedway track, but a sand track. Held 17 meetings between 1952- 1963, although I think somewhere it states 1961 https://www.wochenspiegelonline.de/news/article/unvergessen-sandbahnrennen-in-erbach/ https://homburg1.de/homburg-vortrag-ueber-das-legendaere-erbacher-sandbahnrennen-von-1952-bis-1961-84369/ a programme here https://www.saar-nostalgie.de/Motorsport.htm and here are 3 programmes up for sale from meetings in Homburg. lot 7353 https://www.automobilia-ladenburg.de/aAPI/catalogs/en/4576acacc279e96599de02909e6b18bc/page/8

Further relaxation of the rules on Denmark. If you have a wife/husband or parent or child living in Denmark you are allowed to visit them. But if you have a brother or sister you are still banned..... not much help

One name that sticks out from the fatal meeting for me is Derrick Tailby !! Must admit to never having heard of him before. He was also injured in the meeting in his first and only ride and subsequently left Australia and went back to England. See he rode for Coventry for a few years and wasn't even one of their best riders and they were Div 2. As far as I can see he rode for a few seasons then broke his wrist in 1954 ice skating of all things, and was that the end of his career ? . After quite a strong team sent to Australia in the previous year or so, this team seems quite a weak England touring team and indeed the next couple of years were the same until the tours seemed to stop for a few years. I also see there was problems in the Australian team in that Arthur Payne accused to test selectors of victimising him, by not picking him. Then he did get in the team and didn't do too well and never got another chance that series !!

One person say's bully, another thinks they are looking after their own interests. I mean it is not as if when Britain were in that position they didn't try the same thing. A few occasions they banned foreign riders and one time there was even a real bit of bullying going on when a reigning world champion was threatened with a ban from the world championship if he didn't tow the line.... Tbh I would rather like to see the FIM get a kick up the backside. Maybe what is needed is a real breakaway and the control being in the hands of the big boys in the sport, rather than being run by the minnows?

Seems like the manager of a lightweight calling out a heavyweight to a fight. There can only be one winner, so what it the point of trying to go head to head ? It is going to be difficult enough to try and fit so many fixtures into a short period of time. Let alone that probably when racing is ready to start you can almost bet the weather will turn bad after this long dry period....
-
It’s not about field size or experience is it? What sort of crowd is attending for instance ? If none because most money is made through betting (which is happening elsewhere I think) then it doesn’t really prove a model that speedway can follow

What I can say is that Le Breton was heckled by home fans after twice 'cutting in' on Rigg in I think the previous test. He was also cautioned by the ACU stewards for dangerous riding. Rigg's foot was caught in Le Bretons wheel during one incident and he needed medical attention. Ken also ran onto the back wheel of team mate Lionel van Praag......

Difficult one Sid. I do think for a couple of years he was arguably the best rider in the world. He was neck and neck with Farndon in their match races

I see you have requested only your pics or pics related to you are posted. Think that is a good idea to stop the group becoming yet another with the same photo posted over and over

Dicky Case Memorable for me for two things First his failed attempt with Max Grosskreutz to promote speedway in Hamburg And secondly for his part in the Harringay riot when he was part of the Hackney team that beat their local rivals and both himself and his wife were attacked by local fans

After the meeting yesterday they are hoping to start a short season in early June, but all depends on what the government decides......

It seems meetings in Denmark can take place as long as no more than 500 spectators attend, which in reality would never be reached for probably 70%+ . Just the top international meetings and Superliga meetings. Even last time Vojens were in the top league I doubt they got that many most times. Superliga will discuss how the future looks this week and how they react to the rules. I guess if one of the football clubs can put up a big screen in the car park it could also be possible, but maybe not financially viable ? https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/52347927

Warsaw GP 2022 Saturday May 14th
iris123 replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Teterow is off. I posted a link a couple of days ago. And to give them some credit they did announce it quite quickly after the governments recommendations last week. It was one of the first big events announced and so had quite a bit of tv and internet exposure through that As you pointed out, it was a bit confusing just which thread to post on..... -

I did post it earlier, but buried away on the long track thread, where I thought it more relevant I also saw the news earlier that there are still problems at the Danish/ German border where apparently having a spouse or family living on the other side of the border isn’t an important enough reason to be allowed through. So it will be hard for speedway riders I guess to keep going in and out of the country, even if speedway starts up -
I understand what you are saying, and agree to some extent. Just a look at history though, and the great recession after the Wall Street crash in 1929, which was one of the high points in speedway history and then the real peak period for the sport in the UK was directly after WW2. So it could be that sport is a way of forgetting the daily problems. But I doubt in this day and age speedway will profit . Live in hope though

Now that is a surprise.....I said a while back But they could have done what one of the Danish football clubs is doing. Putting the meeting on a big screen in the car park !! Even the football club reckon they have enough places for 2,000 cars to come up with an attendance of 10,000 max, which must be enough for those two clubs ? No idea, but imagine they must have a large car park.....no imagination though See Bavaria, as I stated are taking a hard line and gone further than end of August. They have cancelled the holy of holies, the Oktoberfest !!!! -
Seems the president has now confirmed the border will remain closed for the next year. And asked the Czechs to appreciate the beautiful local landscape as travel abroad is restricted, as it travel to CZ for foreigners https://news.expats.cz/weekly-czech-news/czech-borders-should-remain-closed-for-one-year-says-president-milos-zeman/

That is the trouble with FB groups. Just copied stuff from elsewhere, which makes it almost unnecessary to join a new group , as the stuff will probably be on the other groups within hours if not sooner. The same people posting stuff all over

I think as Steve said previously, I guess we would all do these lists different and probably every week slight differences The interesting thing though, is all 3 of your picks have dropped back from where they were in 2018. But I don't think anyone would argue that Lambert had a hard season ?
