Think that is one thing that those who look back with fondness don't see. The way the system was unfair on some, giving them tough meetings and gave others a fairly easy route through.Ok you get a few wildcards now, but they are generally people who deserve it....

In what order would you place these Aussie greats???
iris123 replied to Sidney the robin's topic in Years Gone By
I think there was something of a crisis pre-war in that Australia lacked newcomers and were relying on the pioneer riders for some time and some of them were retiring fairly early, like Arthur and Huxley -
Absolutely agree

I'd say the Tommy Jansson years were my best years and maybe 1985-ish when Wimbledon dropped down. Strangely maybe, but I really enjoyed those first couple of seasons in the lower league and did travel about a bit too outside London The 70s, when I could go to White City, Wimbledon and Hackney. Then the 80s with Wimbledon, Arena Essex and Hackney with regular trips to Rye or Eastie

He was a bit of a fiery character, Lionel. Was suspended in 1934 after coming to blows with Norman Parker and then just after he won his world title got banned from driving

Might be wrong, but I thought Wimbledon and US rider Benny Kaufman was jewish. I have some recollection of seeing something about it. Maybe even a report in a jewish paper of the time Indeed. The Jewish Criterion from sept,1938 has a report on Benny, plus I am sure I have seen him mentioned in meeting reports from New York as being jewish Also found a report from 1937 'In the scratch final he staged a thrilling battle with Jimmy Gibb throughout the entire 4 laps, the pair riding neck and neck with never a letdown with the Jewish star finally sliding inside Gibb on the last turn to win by inches`

Future Format for British Speedway
iris123 replied to Falcon1983's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
That has nothing to do with the argument/discussion. The point was about sponsorship and trying to get some. But if you want to go further, then do you think restaurants and small businesses should be left to fail through no fault of their own ? -
Future Format for British Speedway
iris123 replied to Falcon1983's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I realise you could be acting obtuse to give speedway more stick, but the post isn't about assistance, it is about sponsorship. So are you saying speedway shouldn't receive sponsorship or are you mixing things up ? Just posting to get attention ? The thing is though, why shouldn't everyone, big and small, sport, business or private person receive assistance if they need it? In some cases at this time I have read that restaurants etc might be taxed less. Now that isn't giving them money, but helping them get through this difficult time by not taking so much off of them. Might be a way for sport as well.... -
2020 FIM Long Track
iris123 replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Grasstrack, Sidecar, Short Track and Cycle Speedway
They could hire a few fields, show the match on a big screen to 500 in one area, 500 in another...... -
I am in between you guys. I am not sure if chunky saw Tommy much in 75/76 ? I thought it was Tommy's death that got him back into the sport. Not of course that you have to see a rider to make a judgement. But I do think he came back from Australia a much better rider, much improved. He seemed to have a confidence in him. But of course you look at Hans and even though he had the same confidence in the league or look at Leigh Adams as another example, it doesn't always mean they are going to be a world beater. It took Hans quite a few years until he eventually had the luck or mental strength to win a title. I have no doubt Tommy would have made it into the elite for a good period. I couldn't say he would definitely have won a title

Oh ok. But if you had followed the google image procedure I mentioned earlier it would have taken you here, with all the info http://archivemoto.com/thearchive/2019/3/21/a-white-camel-in-rose-city

did you get it from this site? https://pwheelie.blogspot.com/2019/03/harley-flat-track.html

No doubt you are right, but I thought it was much later. But just a bad hunch

Good idea

Not really speedway, it's a flat track film. But might be of some interest

Don't work for me, Norbold

Agree. He also accused andout of holding some year long grudge. Also ignores attempts to help, like I did with the copy and paste post. A few on here, when they are taking a break, you notice how nice and interesting the forum can be
-
I doubt this site is important, seeing as he often slags it off and has so many other sites to control On the other hand you could tell him to stop acting the wally and then nobody would feel the need to reply......simple really
-
I agree. Also the problem here is when threads are started a year or so after the first is not only are the points repeated, but also the mistakes etc.... Gustix does seem to be one of the main culprits. I’d like to put it down to a bad memory.....but

An example would be the Ray Tauser pic you posted yesterday. It was originally on an article in the States. The photo you posted still had the watermark or stamp of that magazine on it. So it has been copied from that article and then pasted elsewhere including here There is a google facility to check photos. It is often used by people trying to track down pics or even track down if their photo has been used elsewhere. You go on the google search page and up in the right hand corner ( on my phone it is up in the middle)there is an image link. Then you post your photo or the url and do a search

Not to mention Buzz Burrows if it was held at Plough Lane.....he might have needed a wildcard through though

Much like your thread,so nothing new there Obviously not used to so many comments on your FB groups !!! And can't see anything about Keith Gartner. Who is he ? See a bit about Keith Gurtner though
