  1. Well i ain't heard what the blöoke said but i gathered from what SS said that points scored count as GP points then it makes sense that it is the same system as used here in Germany. So if you finish behind someone in the semi's who has a lower total than you,you naturaly go through to the final. No getting a 15 point max in the 20 heats and then getting knocked out for finishing third in the semi behind someone who's points total reads(2,1,2,2,3,2)
  2. I don't doubt you on that Norbold ,but we are talking Reg "Golden Boots" Luckhurst here. One of the friendliest riders ever to shoot shale in my eye,not speak to someone Sloppy journalism in my opinion.Bet Shazzy's uncle could have filled the bloke in on the track if he couldn't get Reg. Unfortunately this seems to be par for the course with a lot of these books.Basically to write a history of a club all you need is the last programme from the season mention a few important scores and who was transfered and you've got a book.Which was why i am waiting for your history of Wembley as i am expecting something a bit more.Seems like i've got a while yet though
  3. Although quite a good read,a few of this new wave of books seem to be researched in the lunch break.Go through a few old speedway mags, etc.I mean to use an example,Bethersden quote "The track closed following complaints about noise later in 1971,although it wa later rumoured,in January 1974,that Reg Luckhurst had planned to use the track to try out a Weslake...."Why not ask Reg Luckhurst if he did or not or is that too hard
  4. Are you sure SCB,because if it is the same format as was used here this season, then you can flunk the semi but still make the final as it is the top 4 scorers( from the 20 heats and then add on the points from the semi's )that make the final. Not the first 2 from each semi
  5. Thanks for clearing that up. Were you perhaps thinking of Prague Iris123 ?? I thought I was going mad for a minute or 3. Rico <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Could have been Prague, could have been the U21 Final. Not sure. But seriously thought it was the GP as i was astonished that so few went
  6. oops, just looked up the crowd figure and it was circa 25,000.So i appologise, should have looked before i posted, what with my memory
  7. 8,000 was the figure i saw and there seems to be a tendency to give a figure larger than the reality.Think of Cardiff and now i have seen some doubt about the 8,000 given from Krsko. From what i have read most journalists seem to think 5,000 tops And even if it was a lot more what are we talking about? 12,000 ,still only league level. We ain't talking unusualy large crowds, given that the attendance is boosted by speedway tourists like yourself
  8. Just leave two rounds in Poland thanks very much Both were well attended this season Rico <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't know the figures for the last GP in Poland but the first only had 8,000,which is about half the gate of some of the league matches. How is that well attended
  9. But if it is over 23 heats a rider hasn't won it after 20.It gives the fans the chance to see the best 8 and then the best 4 race against each other, even if they have met each other in the previous heats. You also get to see the better riders more
  10. Acctually saw a Bernd Bolick yesterday.Unfortunately he is a driving instructor from Bützow and not a speedway rider
  11. If it's the system they used in Germany this year then a rider who scores 15 in the 20 heats and flunks the semi still qualifies for the final if he is one of the four top scorers. The semi-final points are just added to the points scored in the meeting to decide the top four riders who qualify for the final, not the first 2 riders from each semi. That also goes for the final,so it isn't necessary to win the final to win the meeting, but it ensures that the top scorer over 7 heats is the winner
  12. Results hereDiedebergen Poor Brokstedt @GSF Matze must have been celebrating to much last night
  13. They did Norbold,it's one of the formats tried here for the U21 championship this year. The race format changed almost every meeting <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh yes, iris, you're right the format has been used before. For every World Final from 1936 - 1994 and every other individual meeting in that time plus most since. Silly me for forgetting that! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The 20 heat format yeah, but this has semi's and a final,Norbold.Thats what i'm talking about.Guess your still thinking about that "best speedway book ever" topic eh
  14. They did Norbold,it's one of the formats tried here for the U21 championship this year. The race format changed almost every meeting
  15. @ GSF As i said Matze now is German champ,U21 Champ,1.Bundesliga champ and the last peice of the jigsaw will be the 2.Bundesliga tomorrow Thought he wouldn't do it acctually as he didn't look that good through the meeting until the semi. His gating was not so good and there was little passing, but in the semi he came round Hefe and in the final he came past Hefe and the fast gating Hertrich who was also passed by Hefe.Must say that is the first meeting where Hertrich has looked good that i have seen.Max Dilger was also impressive and Michael Diener was a surprise.Danny Knakowski looked like he came back too early,or is it just me! Almost every time i have seen him this season he has had a fall and then been out for a while The 15 year olds did quite well(Dilger included)Sönke won 3 heats and had a third after being injured in a bit of first bend bunching although he won Heat 17 he couldn't continue. Wölbert made the semi's but was in the wrong one, against Matze and Hefe Got it on video if you want it Pity Smoli was out and Knaki wasn't fit as if he showed the form from the last 2 Ostsee Pokal's he could have possibly won
  16. Fantastic result from Smoli @GSF Maybe i will change my mind about the U21 next week and go for Smoli...nah...still think Matze will edge it but it will be close.Watch out for Sönke as well, his gating has been pretty good especially for a 15 year old.Particularly needed at the gaters paradise that is Teterow . What happened to Wallner after yesterday
  17. Great result from Matze, not so good from Hefe but what about Fritz Wallner Still GSF,i think Matze will be celebrating a double next weekend when he wins the Junior title and then the 2.Bundesliga Forgot to congratulate K.Bjerre
  18. As i said,i think he is the best ever.Don't mean i liked him(admired maybe)but certainly never booed him, nor anyone else for that matter.Well maybe Bert Harkins :blink:Oh,forgot to mention i always booed you Never asked for an autograph though
  19. fiddlesticks What did the great man like for breakfast, then. If he had time for food that is
  20. Love the quote about Olsen "He was a good rider but he's a dane-and that says everything!" Classic
  21. my dad and me could certainly tell some things about some of the individual meetings some of the things he did and said before and after some meetings were 'interesting' ... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Come on then Steve, spill the beans or do we have to wait for the book to come out One of the things he usually said after the meetings i was at was"#### off, your not getting an autograph"
  22. Can't agree that riders give it 100% all the time ,Norbold.I think Ivan like most tried things out in meetings and went through the motions in others. I think Mauger was the best of all time even though i didn't see a lot of the greats, though i did see Ove
