  1. Mr.Clemens, Could you really describe Szczakiel as being part of a "Big Five" along the lines of the "real" big 5 of the previous era.The others were the best 5 riders in the world during that period(well, the league, would have to include Plechanov in a big 6).Was Jerzy even one of the best 5 on the continent during the decade,or just for a few years. It's even debatable that he was the best Polish rider of the decade.Apart from winning 2 titles on home tracks, his record wasn't too good.Hardly ever made it past continental semi's in the individual comp.Wasn't very often picked for Polish pairs or even WTC teams. If a final had been held in the U.S.S.R,maybe one of the Gordeev brothers would have been champ. If the final had been held in Germany,Müller might have one more than the one title,Stancl in Czech...would say they were better riders than Jerzy, not that he was the "no-hoper" that some try to make him out to be though. The same could be said for Egon in the 80's.He dominated the continent and in particular his home country far more than Szczakiel did,but you couldn't include him in a "Big 5,6 or 7" just because he won a world title.
  2. Can only say i'm glad Mr.Clemens has nothing to do with writing articles for Backtrack
  3. Times:Sat-training 09:00 start 14:00 then after the meeting training and 4 heats of the Gold Helmet Sun-12:30 start Tickets for sat range from about a quid standing to 2.50 for the best seat Sunday 3 quid standing to something like a tenner for a good seat
  4. Sat U21 WTC + Golden Band for Juniors Sun Zlata Prilba(which is the Golden Helmet only in Czech )
  5. Excactly,a huge advantage to the team that has good U21 rider(s).Those that don't suffer badly.See it here in Germany, where a U21 must be given at least 2 rides.
  6. They are taking the #### if Jarek has to wait for a "special nomination"
  7. O.k,but in what sense? As Andy said and you know yourself Polish speedway isn't healthy financially, they have had to draft in foreign teams to make up the numbers in Div.2.Not really something British speedway could or needs to do.Will that have positive or negative long term effects? Also the display in the WTC was awesome, but it was at home.Team Gb looked good at home, its away that proves strength in depth. And lets be honest i'm sure they would swap all their Team titles for a GP series winner.
  8. Tommy,i think the line up for the wtc will be pretty much the same as the quali's apart from the sad absence of KB from the Danish team. From what i know the Goldenes Band will consist of the riders from the WTC plus riders from Austria and Germany. The line up for the Zlata Prilba given in the BSA isLeigh Adams,Jason Crump,S.Johnston,C.Harris,M.Loram,S.Nicholls,A.Smith,H.andersen,S.Ermolenko,M.Za gar,M.Ferjan,P.Karlsson,D.Davidsson,S.Tihanyi,A.Milanese,S.Terenzani,F.Wallner,J. Franc,M.Fencl,A+l.Dryml,T.Suchanek,B.Brhel,T.Topinka.It also includes Hefenbrock,Smolinski,Schultz and Kugelmann from Germany but the German Championship is also the same day so they probably won't be there

  10. Oh thanks Tomaz. Was trying for ages to think what it all meant and as no one else asked thought it was just me...
  11. Think your right in assuming there is a bit of a North/South rivalry, and that Bavarians consider themselves somewhat different to the rest of the country.I haven't been to Neuenknick(heard the track wasn't too good and the red stuff is hard to get out of your skin/clothes),but its hard to beat a german track on a warm summers day with german beer
  12. Tomaz, probably a silly question but what does the =5,etc after Matej's score represent
  13. Lets not forget Papua New Guinness. Were a few riders from Port Moreton. One came over for second half rides. And of course Brazil
  14. I was going to say,it's not your "deckchair, blanket, flask of tea" sort of atmosphere you get in Britain(and in Germany!)
  15. HG, I doubt if Smoli has upset Egon.I don't know how far Egon travels, but if he stays mainly here in the north then he see's a different Martin to what the fans in Bavaria see.The country is pretty well divided north/south for speedway and the times i have seen Martin here,he doesn't dominate like he does in the south. Also Egon naturally has the self belief of a champion and probably can't see anyone following in his footsteps. The new bunch of youngsters are probably the best for a long time, but whether there is a superstar among them remains to be seen.
  16. Results from meeting here.Seems he will miss Lonigo as he broke his hand
