Ice Racing European Championship
iris123 replied to Conkers's topic in International World of Speedway
That looks very unlucky for Antti.Needed jut 1 point from his last 2 heats to finish 3rd(2 points from 2 and he was in a run-off for second)and fluffed it! Doesn't look good for the World Championship though for the non-russians -
Are they the three who will be at Holsted for the Scandanavian quali for the U21?

Thanks Norbold.Very quick.Funnily enough the "Brummies" were off on tour of Sweden and a meeting in Oslo after the return in Dublin.Must have been a regular thing.

As i said on the Louis Lawson thread i have been going through some old programmes and came across one from 1951.Birmingham vs U.S.A touring side.According to the programme this was the side based at Shelbourne Park. While unbeaten in Ireland for a couple of months they got thrashed by the "Brummies" including Graham Warren,Eric Boothroyd,Ron Mountford and Alan Hunt 73-35. The side was : Nick Nicolaides Royal Carroll Ernie Roccio Jimmy Gibb(replaced by Geoff Pymar) Don Hawley Johnnie Roccio Lyoyd Campbell Johnnie Gibson Does anyone have info on how these guys got on in their careers(apart from Ernie Roccio and Jimmy Gibb,of course). Were they signed up by any British Teams? What was the score from the return match the next day or other reults from this seasons USA meetings?

Funnily enough i was just looking through a few old programmes and came across a few things on the "blonde bombshell".One from a B.V prog in 1948 compares the 2 post war youngsters Lawson and Dent Oliver.Seems Oliver was at this point a "big" track specialist while Lawson had his best performances on the small London tracks. Here is a snippet.."Folks might say...why can Louis put up such a good show in London and not Dent. Why is Dent apparently better than Lou at Belle Vue.The answer again is simple.Lou is essentially a small track rider first. His particular style is "bang on" as he would say,on the smaller circuits.Eric Langton has been heard to remark that if ever Lawson lost his slide, came out of the corner as fast as he went in-nobody would see him." Another interesting one from a few days before the 1949 World Final about the 3 "Aces" in the final,Jack Parker,Dent Oliver and Lou carries on in the same theme. "Dent's riding during the last few weeks needs no commentary now,but our stalwart is under no illusion as to his chances unless he can on this great occasion master the Wembley circuit.Louis,on the other hand,is very much at home there. His trouble is that he's slow starting most times and usually takes a heat or two to get going."

Mmmmm!See Gorzow have the following: 19.03 v Tarnow 25.3 v Z.G (looks like at Gorzow) 30.03 v Bydgoszcz what are the chances of a good Tarnow side turning up?Obviously can't see any top foreigners but does Tomek turn out for such meetings?Could go to the Ice speedway in Berlin on the 18th then travel on to Gorzow the next day

Thats right, but it is sanctioned by the Russian sports council(minister) to hold all National motorsports events. So really they have theright to hold all Russian championships. Also heavily involved is ex-Ice speedway rider,Vitali Russkich, who was thrown out of the MFR because of financial irregularities. So we have one federation that is sactioned by the Russians and one by FIM Also, more to my theory that there will be trouble ahead, according to a report in a german motorsport magazine, both Krasnogorsk and Saransk have alligned themselves with the NRMF and so there is currently no venue for the Semi or the GP in Russia.Thought there might be something up as Saransk didn't send a team to the Russian Junior Championship at the weekends, though one was expected. This is not concrete of course.
-
I've heard the clubs make the decision which federation they ride for and the riders have to go with that. The one club that seems to have the best of both worlds at the moment is Saransk.Their riders have been in both competitions.Even though they rode in the NRMF Russian final they have been nominated by the MFR for the WC.Well the GP is being held there so they have to really.Still wonder if there will be trouble ahead and particularly at Saransk
