  1. But you have announced it Tomaz. They wouldn't dare go against your decision
  2. Can't wait for a report from tommy.Probably something like "Could have done better!"
  3. Hope it is a great season in Poland, without any bad accidents.I will of course be following with interest the progress of the young German and Danish riders. Also those like Klopot Frankow,Sekula,Kasperek and Schmidt who will be riding in the Bundesliga.Hope tommy keeps me updated on how Kevin gets on Let the best teams come out on top!
  4. Hans-8.57 Morten-6.86 Steen-5.82 Nedermark-3.00 Kosciecha 8.10 K.Zabik(Pl) 8.80 J.Rempala(Pl) 7.50 P.Hlib(Pl) 7.00 A.Andersen 3.00 L.Vedsted 3.00 L.Hansen 3.00 J.Kristiansen 3.00
  5. How could you forget Garnet Thistlewaite ?
  6. Bert Harkins and Georg Hunter(George Hunter?) are Scottish.
  7. Tommy, can you tell me how Kevin Wölbert rode in these meetings.Looking at the results it seems impressive beating the likes of Świderski,J.Davidsson,Lindgren etc. Results don't always tell the whole story, though.
  8. On the subject of the Malmö Final, what stadium was that held in.When i went to the Sweden v Denmark U21 test in Malmö last year i thought that was the stadium that held the World Final. The other week reading through an old speedway star i came across an article about the opening of a speedway stadium there and the team trying to get Ove Fundin to make a comeback. This must be the staium i went to,because i didn't look like FIM standard.Maybe it gives some info in the programme or you know the answer anyway? Thanks Jim
  9. Jim,am i right in assuming it wasn't just in Britain, but also in Sweden that his name was spelt with double s?
  10. No problem,Steve! It is an interesting one, this.Presumably he went through his whole career letting people spell it incorrectly. Are all his medals,World title stuff all spelt incorrectly with 2 s's?
  11. But you have 2 Wayne Briggs and Mark Thorpe's!?! Still not sure about James Moor or Moore.Like i said in the speedway star article on him it was spelt Moor
  12. And his first name is Björn,goddammittt!!!!!! Well every other person from Sweden called Bjorn spells it Björn,i think
  13. Don't want to get involved in who should have been picked or not.Or who should be a wild card.My feelings on the subject are Denmark or a couple of riders will suffer because they have too many good riders and BSI will only allow a few in.KB or Gjedde or whoever will only get in at the expence of another Danish rider unless they all get in through the quali. They don't want a GP series dominated by Polish or Swedish or Danish riders or a combination of the 3
  14. Ross,i guess it only natural that Keith McKay was hyped up.Wouldn't have done the early publicity much good saying he was a novice. It could be that everyone on this side were kept in the dark about his ability. There are plenty of myths that get passed down through the years. One i was surprised to still see recently was that Gerhard Uhlenbrock escaped from East Germany with his family hidden in a sidecar .This was just a publicity stunt made up by ex-Coventry promoter Charles Ochiltree. It has been dispelled a number of times in the Speedway Star, etc but still gets trotted out. With speedway, particularlly in Britain it's not easy to know truth from fiction sometimes. And that takes us back to Mr Hoskins
  15. Looed through my collection a little. In the Wimbledon programme for the 1934 England v Australia test he is listed as H.R.Lees,but in a "gossip" part of the programme as Ginger, and whoever filled his name in as a reserve replacement put G.Lees in.Also a New Cross v Wembley programme from same year has him in as "Ginger" Lees along with "Nobby" Key for the home side.So it looks very much like he was simultaneously known as H.R.Lees and Ginger Lees. The same would go for other riders down the years i guess.
  16. Also on the subject of different names was H.R.Lees and "Ginger" Lees used at the same time?I only have him down as H.R.Lees in programmes i have, just wondered if other tracks listed him as Ginger.Norbold?
  17. Was quite surprised to see that Arne Pander still lives in England. What about Sandor Levai, anyone have any info on what happened to him after he retired?
  18. Or was it at Stamford Bridge in 1927? Think Billy Galloway gave a demonstration in front of the cameras, most probably as a publicity film.Galloway and McKay came over before the rest and rode round for the news reel people, but from the report it was only Galloway who really gave it some "welly".Not a meeting of course.
  19. Wasn't it a Welsh rider, living in the US,that is credited with "inventing" the slide.Maldwyn Jones? As to Hoskins being the one who "invented" speedway,it puts me in mind of the sewing machine! There were a number of sewing machines developed but none really any better than doing it by hand. Then one chap patented an idea and went round trying to sell it.No luck in America,he came to England. No luck in England either. On returning to America he found a number of people producing machines using his ideas. One by a Mr Singer,a man who had turned his idea down when he had shown him! Most people know of Singer sewing machines, very few have heard of Elias Howe Funnily enough another who came up with a different machine was Helen Blanchard
  20. Frigbo, you forgot Mads Korneliussen And who the hell is Allan Fog? You are doing one of these lists as well aren't you!?!?
  21. Is that not a mis-spelling of Sam Nikolajsen? John Jorgensen Peter Glanz Brian Karger Gert Handberg Per Sörensen Frede Schott
  22. Well He was Dave Cheshire in Arena Essex programmes, but his name would also be David 15.Reinke 20.Bernard "Bat" Byrnes. "Bat" was just a nickname like Ron"Junior" Bainbridge 22.Lee herne Peter Thompson rode from 73-74.not sure if he rode after that
  23. No i think Leif Berlin rode for Wolves or Birmingham in the 70s.Anyone confirm?
