Indeed Parsloes.Looking at the photo of the 1914 Cup Final, the crowd is a hell of a way back from the pitch!

Not sure about your first suggestion. What would be more practical and cheaper?.Laying a track on an old football ground or moving a grandstand,?If you look in the book about Crystal Palace speedway you will see 2 things.First a picture of football taking place and speedway. The Grandstand is the same.Secondly there is an ariel view of the site showing both sports grounds and both have circular tracks. So they existed side-by-side for a period.I don't think there is any doubt whatsoever that the speedway track was built on the football ground. The plaque and remains of the track which "existed" until 1983 are another thing. But i imagine if Lionel Crossley said it existed he did see it.Is he still alive?I remember Steve Hone saying he was a friendly bloke and asking about him.

  7. Is there any news on Vl.Trofimov and his involvement in Rovno.SC Trofimov? There was a power struggle last year. And i think there was an interview on the Russian forum with Viktor Trofimov, suggesting bad things going on.Also think he suggested the same was happening at Ufa,but not sure.
  8. Why didn't Eskilstuna run a meeting? They did this time last year, didn't they Mikael?

Like you i spent a lot of time in the park.As a kid the little zoo,the pelicans, the gorilla statue, the Dinosaurs and even the Athletics stadium were favourites of mine.I always found it amazing you could just walk right into the stadium.Never saw the plaque either, but then i didn't know about it until L.Crossley wrote his book.As an ex-Palace rider i guess he would know where the track was and why would he lie about something like that?

According to Lionel Crossley, the speedway track was built on the football ground and not on the sports ground next door.In fact until 1983 there was still a piece of the track surviving.Fenced off and with a commemorative plaque. So the tracks position was well known
  11. Pairs meeting R.Haupt (1,1,2,3,3)10 P.Hougaard (2,2,3,e.f,2)9 M.Schultz (2,3,2,2,1)10 R.Kowalski (1,R,1,3,3)8 S.Mell(3,3,1,1pushed,3)11 M.Sekula (0,2,2,2,e.f)6 T.Busch (0,2,e.f,e.f,e.f)2 J.Kolenko (3,3,3,2,2)13 K.Drossmann (2,0,0,0,0)2 J.Kristiansen (3,1,3,1,1)9 D.Rath (e.f,0,e.f,3,2)5 M.Gregoric (1,1,1,1,r)4 Nikolauspokal Final R.Haupt R.Kowalski J.Kolenko S.Mell Quite a good meeting with some close racing.Kolenko was the best rider,at least from the gate.Good to see Matze back on track and he was one of the riders coming from the back.Daniel Rath was also good value, although his bike let him down when leading Haupt and Hougaard. In the individual final,Kolenko gated and the spun on the first corner. It was all 4 back, but Jernej took a while to pick himself up.In the re-run he again gated first but was passed by Roberto and Rafal. And a few pics here
  12. And wasn't it filmed at Lea Bridge. To answer Parsloes other question. I'm just wondering about a forum viewing of the film? Not sure how it works, viewing these things. But maybe if a few of us get together it will spread the costs a bit.........Just a thought,as i have wanted to see this as well. But i won't be coming over until the speedway season starts
  13. Me! Booked a trip with a travel firm for Assen. So leave Hamburg Sat and arrive back sunday night. Not even sure what hotel we are staying at though. Berlin,i will probably do the friday practice as well as both days. But nothing booked as yet
  14. Probably not much choice what with the lengthening GP season. If the German one goes ahead it will be in October.Anyway it seems the weather is changing and October/November is better than March at least. We have just had the warmest November on record.Just hope the weather lasts till saturday and the next speedway meeting
  15. Will they be running the junior event as well, this time? Hope Bauer just uses the series as practice and pulls out this timeonce the GP's get going Have seen on the BSA site that Slava might do some meetings, just not the World Championships
  16. Oh no!You will start some of our members off.Kevin Meynell has a sort of "Subedei" thing about UEM competitions and the Club Competition in particular. But it is a bit of a joke the way some teams recruit riders just for one match

  19. An interesting question. The Russian league doesn't really have a fixed day, like Poland,Sweden and Denmark. If they are hoping to get top foreign stars on a regular basis and not just one or two meetings here and there i guess they have to have a fixed day.Thursday maybe? Can't really see Sweden or Poland suffering,so it will be Denmark and Britain,i guess
  20. Here is one And the track web-site here Think Russell broke a wrist or something Shazz.
  21. Best do a search as there are about 4 or 5 threads on this subject.Last i heard though was the guy had a run in with an armed poacher.
  22. I just have the worry he will use the system to his advantage.Use British nominations for a while, then jump ship and become an Aussie when he moves into the senior ranks.Hope i am wrong though
  23. Sounds like a step in the right direction. But is Woffinden British or Australian?.Always seems to be different opinions on this.
