Wimbledon were also riding at home the day I was born, but by then Parker had retired. Funny that

Flat Track Champions
iris123 replied to britmet's topic in Grasstrack, Sidecar, Short Track and Cycle Speedway
Sad to see that the starter of this thread seems to have disappeared as has his very informative website -
I would have thought they were named after Carshalton
-
I saw a name mentioned a few days ago around that time. Turned out for Beckenham and then Tooting Tigers. Pete Jarman. Guess it is the same Pete Jarman who later turned to speedway
-
Thought you had the threads originator on ignore, so how do you know ?
-
We could always try to guess what comes next. Possible something on the forgotten Eaglets or Uncle Bob Harrison or maybe even the Red Herring fleet..... some popular topics

I did read, his daughter is thinking of bringing out a book. If and when it comes out there is a thread for it already

Haven't you got an old gaelic curse ?

Think back in 1973 there were a few teams relatively equal or competitive at least. Ok they had to combine Norway and Denmark. But the number of actual riders cometing has dropped dramatically since then. One reason of course is riders are or were riding in 3 or more leagues now, when back then it was two at the most. And from a GB point of view, I guess we would be competing with Latvia, Sweden and Czecho instead of Russia, Poland and Denmark. Might not be so attractive as back in the Peter Collins days
-
Bit strange they kept or even reverted to the original name, seeing as they haven't played in CW for 30 years and I would guess there is zero prospect of them going back
-
May well be. Last time I saw them in Colliers Wood must be in the 70s or early 80s
-
Colliers Wood used to play in the Recreation Park next to Singlegate School. Think they played on saturdays and a team called Larkhall played Sunday, or the other way round

No. They say if things change for the better they will reconsider. But in all honesty, who thinks things are going to change for the better and not get worse? Plus they are in Bavaria, which is trying to lead the way in Germany for dealing with the virus, quick and hard

Inzell has been cancelled
-
No Austrian team, due to corona restrictions at Russian border Also a week or so ago there was problems at Inzell for speed skating. Seems the area is/was a hot spot and the Dutch team that were training there had to leave

My feeling is though, there must have been some major mis-management or very bad judgments made at both Kingstonian and Dulwich. Both had quite decent grounds, if run down. But certainly in good areas. I guess they done a good deal, which surely should have set them up for a very long time. Instead within a couple of decades they find themselves without a ground.....luckily Dulwich seem to have found a piece of land, and I am also glad to see Fisher being re-incarnated and also finding a piece of land near their old ground, which I also went to a few times This from wikipedia, seems to back up my hunch Relegation and, moreover, financial problems as a result of severe overspending in the chase for success, saw a sharp downturn in the club's fortunes between 2001 and 2005.in 2003 the then manager Kim Harris said that the owner, property developer Rajesh Khosla, was "raping us"after Khosla sold the Kingsmeadow ground for £2 million in personal profit. So it was just over a decade after moving that they were in desperate trouble I do fear AFC could end up in big financial trouble and end up like those I have mentioned. I, unlike a couple here though, wish them all the best

It could all end in tears anyway, if what the Orient guy is saying on the Beeb is true. Most clubs only have about 5-6 weeks before they start to close !!! If things don’t change Could be that the Dons have finally got their stadium , but at the wrong time What is a surprise to me, as I haven’t followed the story that closely is how Kingstonian ended up in this situation. As when Micky Drop was at the club I went to a couple of games at their old stadium near the centre of Kingston by the train station. That was a lovely old place, and would have thought they got a good deal to sell it. Rather like the situation Sulwich have found themselves in, after moving out of their old ground into a new stadium at the same place and then finding themselves kicked out of that and needing to find yet another ground
