Big Meeting At Poole
iris123 replied to Saint Rob's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Well they always risk injury. But they are 4 of the top riders in the world.Surely they could have put on a bit of a show.I mean Martin Smolinski has said about the indoor concrete floor meeting in Kiel that the idea is to put on a show, not to try and bust a gut to win.So if he can do it why not these guys? -
Big Meeting At Poole

Looking at the video i think they could at least have put on a better show of it if they were all getting the same money. You couldn't really call that a classic heat.So they either decide to share the money and give the public a great heat or they go all out for the win.It would have been a great opportunity to put on a real show for the media and newbies along with the fiddle -
Youth 250cc Championship
iris123 replied to Scunny Stag's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Anything is possible, but we heard this a few years back now.It seemed the Scandinavians looked at the 250's and they were not suitable for their set-up.Plus the Poles seem to have gone the 80cc way and now the Russian club,Togliatti have set up a training school and bought 50 80cc bikes for their kids. -
Only went there once.Back in 75.I think it was the year Street was starting out with the 4 valve.Anyway Street and Crump Herne,Gresham even Tom Owen maybe gave the Dons a right thumping.Briggo and Tommy Jansson just didn't get into it.Don't really remember much apart from it seemed a dark and cold place.Maybe the feeling was exagerated because the supporters club had stopped off on the way for the Oxford -Coventry meeting in the afternoon which from memory was a total contrast.Plus it doesn't matter if you watch another team get thumped.Wimbledon always seemed to take a beating away from Plough Lane back then

Big Meeting At Poole

Hyderd says it is a sign of the times.I can just compare it to the recent indoor speedway/freestyle jump event. The tickets for this were available through a supermarket chain for €5 reduction! But i agree with what you say Not sure what it is like back home now.But last week i went to buy a train ticket to Berlin.I was told it would cost €68 at the counter, but €58 at the automatic machine.Although when i eventually bought my cheaper ticket there was a €2 service charge -
There was a Steve Collins riding second halfs at New Cross back in 1963.Wonder if this is the same rider who was doing second halfs at Wimbledon in the 70s?

And a pic Martin Yeates in full flow for the Wildcats here

2009 Grand Prix Challenge In Britain
iris123 replied to iris123's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I agree.Maybe like you say they are looking at something bigger than a GP qualifier or a Junior World Final and going for the big one -
Oh yeah.I thought Krasnogorsk was one of the qualis.Didn't notice we are back to 4 GPs.Which is good Wonder if they are still looking for somewhere to stage the team championship

2009 Grand Prix Challenge In Britain
iris123 replied to iris123's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Daugavpils and Miskolc are 2 tracks that always seem to get a few meetings each year.FIM & UEM meetings. Gorican is an obvious track for these meetings.Just surprised that Togliatti and their new stadium haven't got a big meeting -

iris123 replied to iris123's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Were they promised the Junior final?Sometimes it takes a while to work up the ladder. You host a quali, then a semi and then maybe the final. But there are always a few teams in line.Every year obviously there are two teams who host a semi-final but only one team with the final.I know Stralsund said they were promised a Euro final but it has taken a few years to get it I would have thought the GP Challenge will go to Coventry or Poole -
Just seen next years dates and Berlin and Assen have swapped,so the last GPs are in Assen.Plus the Russian GPs are in Ufa,so maybe we will get some tv coverage again. And Inzell have the team Championship Calendar

Dutch & Belgium News 2008
iris123 replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
Ah it was you that linked to that pic.I remember it looked a terrible fence. Was only mentioning that pic a few months back. How a track like that could have been handed an FIM meeting i'll never understand.Well i would if it is all to do with politics -
Isn't he a rider from the 80s?With Stoke maybe?More to the point who is Matyas Hlavacek? Has he ridden in the last few years.Thought he was Suchaneks mechanic.Maybe being lined up for Berwick or Newport? Is he anything to do with MSJ i wonder Congrats to Smoli.Seems, just as he is over here,he puts on a great show for the fans.

Franky will have to make all the A-Finals though imo to put Krasnikov under pressure.Krasnikov should barring a disaster at least make the A-Finals,and could by Berlin have too much of a gap.Obviously i don't want anyone to have problems, but it would be nice if the title was still to be decided on the last day.At least if Vitali is better by Assen and Berlin he could mess things up a bit for Nikolai and let someone else in with a chance.Like i said on inspeed,it is a pity Ivan Ivanov,Bulankin and Bogdanov for various reasons didn't make it.I don't think they have quite the complex about Krasnikov that the others do.
-
Think they only have one meeting a year normally and very few if any riders. There was a Dutch & Belgium news thread started a little while back though Edit:Found it here

Thanks jacky.Thought Antti's score was disappointingly low
