No we can't know what else could have been done. But,the riders all have connections at various clubs. They might know there were alternatives to Bydgoszcz. Fans and tv would be over the moon to see a GP with Ferjan,Ruud,Swiderski,Smolinski............Behave Humph
-
I would have thought they might want more input.I think the riders were pretty peeved that they weren't consulted at all really in the chaos of the Gelsenkirchen GP.They were just told "the meeting is off and it will be held in Bydgoszcz".I can imagine they will try and make sure that sort of thing doesn't happen again without consultation. How they go about trying to do that i don't know.Do they threaten a strike?I imagine they are also pretty peeved at some of the tracks that have been produced. And going by what Nicki and Jason were heard to say to Ole at the recent Vojens meeting and some of the reactions from Gollob for instance i wouldn't be surprised if discussions on this subject are not on the agenda as well

Surely, depending on where you are of course, but Ronnie Moore would be a name that a lot remember Speedway back in the earlier period also seemed to attract Royalty and top stars.Which reflected it's social standing to an extent. In the later period)60s onwards) it seemed to be minor celebs,Alvin Stardust and Sam Fox spring to mind.Which sort of reflects the downmarket status it held then and ever since really.Or am i talking crap?

Rick Miller was on here a year or two back and came across as a decent bloke.Scott Autrey though.Nasty piece of work Although i do still posses a signed photo. Also seem to recall getting Mike Bast's siggy at Plough Lane and he seemed ok.He was there i seem to recall with Bruce when they came over for an Intercontinental Final or something at White City a couple of days later

As Henry has explained. Why replace him with someone who isn't as good? He has regularly shown he is one of the top riders in the world.Plus he is exciting.Regardless of his nationality i don't see a reason to kick him out to be replaced by someone who isn't as good and probably isn't as exciting Over the GP season he was probably 2 or 3 % worse than Holta. If there was a queue of really good riders trying to get into the GPs you might consider dropping him.Fact is there is a lack of quality.

Wild Cards For 09
iris123 replied to beesbarmyarmy's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
David Kujawa should not be forgotten. We are lucky at the moment we have a worthy champ. But to say a WC should be automatically given is foolish. As is your suggestion to give Eddie a WC. Luckily the WC selectors live in the real world -
And is this one of Jari's family in this old video? Tampere 1977 Questions,questions.....

One of the best bits of the forum But what about a review of the Longtrack season and a preview of the Ice Racing one Obvious disappointment that Joonas hasn't managed to challenge Riss for the title.I think that is what Robert Barth was hoping. And i think Lehtinen failed to get into next years GPs And how will Antti and Tommy go this winter?

Pity, because i think you had an answer there. It did mention that the debate about Egon was still going on in the internet last week.So i presume that was about your idea/opinion/theory that Egon "wasn't even a good speedway rider"(couldn't be bothered to go back and look at exactly what you posted, but it was along those lines). The obviously clued up journo then went on to list Egons achievements in the World Final as well as other meetings.A meeting in Bremen 1978 was mentioned. Not sure if it was Ole/Ivan who organised it.But it was a line-up with all the top riders of the time.Who won it?

Same as in Berlin. They have two speed skating rinks there.I guess(but am not sure)they might be from wither side of the Berlin wall? Berlin was left with two or three of a lot of things like Opera houses/Airports and such after the fall. The one used regularly for the World Championship Ice Speedway is just an open outside skating rink, similar to Inzell(but Inzell of course is in deep and cold Bavaria). The other one is i think a fully enclosed speed skating rink, that did host some Ice Speedway, but hosts the big Speed Skating events as well as Inzell holding both Speedway and Skating.Plus i think Erfurt is also a fully enclosed rink. But Berlins weather isn't much different from the UK i guess. Not like Bavaria or Austria. There was atry out on a temporary surface here in Hamburg a few years back by a couple of Russian riders(i think) to see if they could hold a meeting on that.Nothing was ever heard since. The temporary rink hasn't been back either though.

There is a Pascal Swart still riding. He is Dutch. Not sure if it is the same guy Here

There might be lots of things that sound dodgy, but the top guy from Bydgoszcz being at a GP in a neighbouring country shouldn't really sound so strange.I mean Middlo said he was there.I reckon lots of people from tracks around Europe were there.People from Danish tracks like Holsted. And i did get the impression the guy had to consult with others from the club(i.e ring Poland) on certain details like getting the ok that Smolinski would still be the Wildcard. Of all the things that went on this part doesn't sound strange at all

But even if no Brit gains a permanent WC, one will get the Cardiff one.So all the Brits will have someone to cheer on and hope wins the meeting.Or not?

QUOTE (Rob B @ Oct 19 2008, 11:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That was funny the way he kept slipping it in. Was also funny how the Sky team really swept it all under the carpet. Sort of...."Someone refered to the Gelsenkirchen meeting as a fiasco. But it has given us a great meeting tonight. The track might slicken off a bit though..........."

I see you got an answer to your Egon Müller theory in the Speedway Star the other week.Wonder if you took note?
-
Harris has been one of the big let-downs for me this year.Last year he really took the GPs by storm.Well some at least. This year he done very little of note.Sorry, but no way would i like to see him in another GP series at the moment.Scott does add something to the GP series which will be lacking from the likes of Walasek and Ulamek.I think it isn't a good move career-wise for Emil to be under too much pressure too young. But the series needs exciting riders.Who wants to pay good money to see Hancock,Adams,Ulamek and Walasek?

Australia is what i thought he was talking about rather than retiring. That and obviously the riders wanting to have a bit more say in things/be consulted i would guess after last weeks fiasco
-
But i see in your "tracks visited" Cardiff is listed whereas Bydgoszcz isn't
-
Now you're talking sense Gollob will never make a decent title challenge now.Unless they have about 5 GPs at Bydgoszcz next year

Can Nicki Get 6?
iris123 replied to home straight's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well it has to be said that i think all the other 3 had tougher competition. And we really don't want Rob to get started on how many medals Hans won,do we For me,Nicki is far the best rider in the world at the moment.I wouldn't say he was as good as the other 3 though. But he isn't finished yet and can only beat what is out there. -
He is the best rider outside of the top 8 not there. And a hell of a lot better than watching Walasek and Ulamek
-
Course he will.And deservedly so
-
Yes congratulations. Simply the best rider in the world
