But he did ride for Hasting v Santry in a challenge meeting. Not just second half stuff and also represented Ireland !!
-
I'd now go so far as to say a lot of these pieces on Pat Flanagan are wrong Fairly sure it is the same rider who rode at Hastings in 1948 and then the next year turns up at Harringay https://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/harringay1949.pdf

Is this 1950 thing the work of speedway historian John Hyam by any chance ?
-
Seems quite possible it is the same rider Looking at the link with Hastings, I can find a 'Bud' Flanagan riding on 17th May 1948 at Hastings. Then a Pat Flanagan is riding for Hastings in Ireland on 11th July that year https://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/hastings1948.pdf

Neville Brice I assume is related to, possible the father of Kevin ?

The Pat Flanagan thread got me thinking, as I had a couple of unknown Canterbury riders pics in my collection. One I think on here was identified as Gerald Reardon, but my poor memory I thought it was Flanagan until I just looked. Now it got me on a search about Reardon who I also had never really heard of and I came across this, which from my old pic and from the d.o.b could well be the same person......but no mention he was a former speedway rider, so might not be https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/201771/Lying-pilot-exposed-by-Sunday-Express-is-jailed

Would this be the same Pat Flanagan that made an appearance for Ireland in 1948 ? http://www.internationalspeedway.co.uk/ireveng.htm

The qualifier for the world and European championships being held at Esbjerg on Wednesday. Looks at great line-up, although not sure who is at no.2 + 11 and there might be a mistake of a change or two. Bech Jensen possibly in there somewhere. Seem to recall he retired over the winter 1.Mads Hansen 2. 3.M.Mikkelsen 4.K.Bjerre 5.Rasmus Jensen 6.Patrick Hansen 7.J.Jeppesen 8.M. Birkemose 9.R.Bach 10.M.J.Jensen 11. 12. P.Kildemand 13. H.Andersen 14.A.Thomsen 15. N.Klindt 16. N.K.Iversen

I was there. Seem to remember a good collectors fair held at the Richard Dunn Centre as well

Brought me back to this yesterday in the news, about an actress (not sure if she is famous or not. Never heard of her) who has gone 30 years, I think with her name being spelt wrong and only just decided to point it out. An 'm' was originally left out and so it went on and on....

Sadly it seems the speedway champions site that had all the golden helmet tesults is no longer online and the guy who ran it doesn’t seem to be here any more

Yes. There have been a number of accidents in multi-storey car parks, where nearly always a pensioner has driven off the deck by getting confuddled

We have one fairly posh street near me that has over the years seen quite a few crashes from OAP's parking their cars and going through the shop fronts and they have tried a few things. Now it is 600kg blocks in front of the shops. Not saying OAP's are dangerous drivers, but it seems in this one street they make up about 100% of the culprits

No idea what Ronnie Moore came in as or how he ended his first season, stats wise, but he must be one, as he had only done a season in NZ before coming over, I think Think one of the 1960s Swedes was also an overnight sensation....maybe Knutson ? And of course Scotland's Tommy Miller got over 9 pt average in his very first season in the 2nd division And for improvement, I guess Ivan Mauger had an amazing improvement from his early years at Wimbledon and returning to become arguably the greatest ever rider

Yes, but the UK isn't in the EU now. Didn't want to be ruled or comply by their rules There was also a further decision made though https://globalarbitrationnews.com/cas-arbitration-clause-improper-under-eu-law-the-general-court-of-the-eu-disagrees/

2021 GP Series Dates
iris123 replied to therefused's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Should do. It was named after an Italian -
Think it is very suspect As I said a couple of ex riders wanted to do a series on a few tracks a few years ago and it came to nothing, because of threats I am sure from the BSPA I also know in Hamburg the local Ice Hockey club folded and a Russian promotion wanted to start a team there in the International Continental Ice Hockey League. The Bundesliga protested that it would be a rival promotion and have a negative effect on the national league. I'd guess the BSPA could well claim the same, with a rival league taking place on their turf. I wish it well as it is a good idea, but I doubt it will happen for a number of reasons. Covid and BSPA

Would it though ? If you are in an association, you agree to abide by the rules. If you then go against them or go outside them, you are surely breaking them. It is probably ok to do that if you don't want to take part in any meetings under their auspices. You can't I think play in both darts associations, even though you might claim it is restraint of trade. And as we see in Poland they restrict the meetings you can ride in, i.e restrict the leagues when you sign a contract There was the mooted series that was going to be run a few years ago that didn't happen

French league 2021 fixtures
iris123 replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
Well I was more thinking of quarantine rules etc, which currently mean some football matches have to be played in other countries. Is it likely that all speedway riders will be vaccinated or get a vaccine passport by May ? Same for the French teams that come to the UK. As I say, at this moment in time it all looks very risky planning when measures could come in overnight which change things radically. Hard enough being certain about national sport, without the complexities of international......saying that though, in normal times I do like the idea -
I see one of Franky Zorn's ice speedway bikes is also being displayed in Sinsheim

Surely a very risky undertaking at the moment ? France heading for a third wave and stricter measures again https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-56450880
