Well that is what i meant Arnie.A rider, say Andy Smith or Billy Hamill is so high based on one or two meetings and a past reputation. I would for instance be interested to know how Joe Screen finishes above the likes of Charlie Gjedde.I think at BV Charlie was more than 1 point in the averages better than Joe.Not sure if Joe rides elsewhere,so i guess it is because Charlie(he is even below Nieminen and Jeleniewski!!!) didn't do so well in Poland or Sweden or Denmark. But then the person is assuming that Screen would do well And how do you rank someone like Brian Lyngsö,who goes very well in Denmark, but hardly rides anywhere else?Ok he did this season do a few meetings in the Polish 2nd Div.But he doesn't enter International or even the Danish national Championship Good to see one of my family in the rankings.Even if he is 1399th.Well done Martin
-
It is a very hard task(almost pointless i would say)to rank 800+ riders who would hardly race against the others in their section. Not too keen on these things myself. But they are a labour of love for some people. In speedway general discussions i think a Russian guy was updating his rankings daily. But it all depends on if people can find the results from South Africa and the East Coast to start with. And how do you rank someone who only has 1 or two meetings per season against someone who has 100?Some riders are obviously ranked on previous reputation

I am hoping to be there Tomaz. If i do go i will let you know.Or just seek you out
-
Not sure who is missing, but it all gets a bit mucked up around Ryan Sullivan who is listed as Danish and Bjarne is British and Nicholls Swedish etc, etc, etc
-
Or just watch a livestream on the net

Yes.It is all about progress though. Some come on in leaps and bounds in the space of a few short months.I just can't allow myself to believe that there is another one or two youngsters as amazing as Arthur in Oz though If there are then the rest of the world is in big big trouble (excluding Denmark of course!!!)

Indeed.Even here in Germany the pre-war track in Hamburg was known as the Dirt-Track Arena, not some German equivalent.100,000 people watched Max Schmeling fight there in 1934.The biggest crowd at a boxing match in Europe to this day i think i am right in saying

And let's not forget the 5 minutes if we are lucky on RBB(from the Berlin Final) and the odd snippet from Dutch or Swedish tv

Don't think so any more. But there are usually some good livestreams from Russia every season. Plus you might see something on one of those Motors + Men sort of channels. There was one on tv some months back about a guy learning the sport

I think it is reasonable to say that the sort of racing seen on that video was happening in a lot of countries around the world at the time. There are references to motorbike racing on dirt horse trotting tracks for instance in Ireland and in Germany years before this meeting took place.Just look at the clip of the sidecars in the German snow and you can see that this sort of thing was going on all over the place.I have even seen a snippet about motorbike racing on ice in Russia in about 1922 or 1923. On this Austrian motorbike website you can find that the first "sandtrack" meeting(Austria) was in 1911 in Baden near Vienna. Austrian motorbike And in Salzburg in 1925 there was their first meeting(1000m) on a horse trotting track 1925 Intersting that in this meeting there was also a woman rider,Fraulein Fanny And a link to the sport of horse trotting or whatever it is called.Which allowed motorbikes to run on their tracks Trabrenn

There is an atmosphere at a Polish speedway meeting.Possibly due to the fact there is a crowd.Possibly helped by the fact that the crowd see good racing. Not always, but more often than in the EL by quite a way.Hope that helps

Surprised no one has mentioned the apparent problem between BSI/IMG and PZM regarding GP/SWC venues. Now that Poland has anumber of extremely good speedway venues they want to share the top meetings around and not have them picked by IMG.I know when i was talking to the people at Gorzów,they were hoping to host a GP in the near future.Apparently all the top clubs apart from Leszno,i think have agreed they should be able to choose which venues host the top meetings. And if BSI don't agree then the Polish clubs will not host any GPs and SWC meetings.I think

Yes,was just a mistake by speedway.org putting a GB flag there.Had me all excited for a little bit I thought Mrs MARK246 would be busy doing the tyres, while you put your feet up

Sorry Arnie.....but the fact that the riders dare not turn up to her parties only reinforces the image i have of her I blame my Dad though. He worked in the Board Mills and used to rumage through the bales before they were pulped. So had a large collection of strange magazines

Is All Not Sweetness And Light In Russia
iris123 replied to Bryn's topic in International World of Speedway
Been on the Russian forum for a few days now.Togliatti have a number of riders on the transfer list.Emil was just one of them. There are all sorts of rumours floating about.Who is going to pull out and who is going to continue.Doesn't sound much different from Britain -
No disrespect meant, because i know she was a great Dons fan,but whenever i hear the name i always imagine one of those funny mags from the 70s called Spank or something."And here we have some foto's from the lovely Mrs Dorothy Charles-Batson from Withrington on Thames showing off her new rubber corset..."Obviously says more about me than anything. And no offence meant Mrs C-B
