  1. A short tv report on yesterdays meeting in Saalfelden.Concentrating naturally on Franky Zorn Saalfelden
  2. Made me look twice.I guess he didn't bother going to Saalfelden to sit on the sidelines????
  3. My thoughts entirely DKRA.I find it hard to believe the promoters implemented the reports recomendations by coincidence
  4. Nice one.Bloody typical that at the time Northern Europe gets some Ice meetings on,i have no transport!!!!!Arggghhhh And live updates from tomorrows World Champ quali in Saalfelden can be seen from about 12:20 british time here
  5. I'd just like to reiterate the thanks to Nev and the gang for the great coverage. All the people behind the scenes and of course the people who sponsored it,so we could listen in on the other side of the world What can be read into this statement(not confirmed i think)that Leigh Adams won't be riding in Oz again after this campaign?
  6. Love that song....I wanna be like Ivan Mauger Egon eat your heart out!!!!!
  7. We saw last season that the quali places can get a bit tight becasue one Dutch rider is assured a place in the GPs whether he qualifies or not.Tuinstra was given a place instead of someone else.Germany are also in the same position, although Bauer is a strong candidate to go through on his own.But now Poland are also assured one qualifier. So the qualis could be very tight. We could end up with only 4+1 going through from one or two qualifiers Polish Wildcard
  8. Think there has been Sidecars on ice a bit here.Erfurt maybe? But Unna featured the Matthijssens and others Sidecars on ice Fairly sure i came across some fotos of sidecars at a recent meeting in Russia.Which surprised me a little. Not sure where i saw them now though
  9. As Joni said a few pages back only 7 Russians this year.So Dmitri needed the win in that run-off courtesy of my friend miro on inspeed here are the nominee's Saalfelden: V. Khomitsevitsch, D. Khomitsevitsch. Togliatti: Krasnikov, D. Ivanov, I. Ivanov. Reserve: Bulankin, Sakharov Sanok: Baseev, Tchajka
  10. You wouldn't bet against that scenario, would you? That is if he still has to be among their nominations.
  11. I just saw your quote about New Cross.Had no idea(still haven't)who the Blue Sox were and what they were playing Castleford at.Thought it might have been some South London team called the Blue Sox.Still the info might be usefull
  12. I had a mooch around a few times before or after Millwall matches or i think once on the way to the New Den.There were some bits of stadium building still remaining.Concrete pillars which i guess were the stadium entrance. At the bottom of the embankment were at the time some small rooms which i guess were something to do with the turnstiles maybe.Up on the embankment there were still some of the terracing, which of all the bits i guess they would still be there. I guess you are talking about what i thought was a working mans club on the other side of the road to the old stadium.I didn't realise that had anything to do with the stadium.I wonder if that is still there as it looked pretty dingy and the area has been redeveloped.Plus it seems a fair number of the pubs in the area have closed anyway
  13. And Arkhipov if he still has to be among the nominee's will be in Togliatti. And more than likely pull out to be replaced by the Russian reserve rider(Bulankin?)
  14. Glad you didn't include me.Because i am not one who thought the World Final back then was flawed. It generally served it's purpose at that time. But that time has now gone. The World has changed since those days. The World Final was continually changing anyway. From the early days with points carrying over from the quali rounds.Oh heck.Bit similar in a way to the GPs in that the winner on the day might not be World Champ. Then the World didn't want the Final always held at Wembley.Along the way we also had Hans Anderson style politics playing a part when the reigning World Champ was threatened that if he didn't tow the line and sign for his British club he wouldn't be allowed to defend his title. We also had the Americans coming over and for whatever political reason couldn't take part.Didn't we also have Scott Autrey falling foul of political decisions and not being entered into the World Championships ,despite being (probably) their best rider. We also had an unbalanced selection process that enabled riders who were not as good as others eliminated from other parts of the world getting into the Final. Now,give or take one or two riders,we have the best in the World competing regularly against each other. And the most deserving i think comes out on top.I am still not totally happy with it.I would much rather have the GPs starting in say June with a number of quali rounds for the GPs happening in the year of the GPs rather than the year before. But apart from that i do think it is better suited to todays World. Both financial, media and for fans.I thank you And let us not forget that the fore-runner to the World Final, the Star riders Championship was run on similar lines to what you were saying about riders racing each other 20 times. It was a series of match races.Which in the early days were more important that 4 riders in a heat
  15. Didn't mis-read your comment at all.Speedway has had other individual competitions. The Daily Mirror Grand Prix and there was the other Champions thing with all the top riders in Denmark,Germany etc over a few legs. But it plainly not the World Championship(just like your Premier League example)so obviously doesn't hold the same status.
  16. But you fail to understand the basic principle of darts, snooker and even tennis is they play enough games to eliminate a bit of bad luck producing a Champion.Boxing is another matter altogether and it shows you lack of understanding that you lump it in with the others. Not surprised by that though And the speedway GP series does the same thing. It gives the competitors enough heats to lessen the chance of one bad race or bad refereeing decision deciding the title. That is the basic principle behind it. Why the heck you bring in a Premier League into this god only knows.Speedway has had other competitions, but it is blooming obvious that they didn't carry the same status as the World Championship.Football also has another competition with teams from all continents involved but that also(not surprisingly)doesn't have the same status as the World Cup. And again why you ask about "outside of things like F! and other similar motor sports"!!!!!!!If you haven't noticed speedway is a blooming motor sport So why try to look at how they decide the World Champ in a boxing match is pretty pointless. Not surprised that is what you are trying to do Exactly Rico.Posted while i was replying to the bloke. But he ...........
  17. Quite simple really Parsloes. In essence, darts or snooker have lot's of games between the competitors to eliminate or at the very least lessen the chance of luck(good or bad)playing a role in deciding who becomes World Champ. The Speedway GP series does the same thing.
  18. The situation must be bad in the Netherlands if what i read on inspeed about Germany is true.Apparently it seems that airfences are required from 2010(?) and a lot of clubs will struggle to afford one.Maybe the KNMV and the clubs can buy one that all can use? This could see a lot of clubs go out of business,if this is to be believed of course. Anyway, good luck yourself with the start of a speedway career
  19. Bloody site frightens the life out of me!!!!! I was listening to radio fremantles coverage yesterday while having a look at the heat details on here.I thought there was a problem with the radio link when i kept hearing this what i thought was japanese madman in the background!!!! Then i realised it was a polish ad
  20. Yes.I wonder if there is a chance he will pull out "injured" or "sick" and be replaced by another(Bulankin?) Is that possible?I doubt the Russians will want an out of form rider representing them.I wouldn't be surprised if he is ill or something.A very poor performance from him Plus i see that the Czech Championship is over 3 meetings!!!!That is something new as far as i can remember in recent times CZ
  21. Sounds like Nikolai helped team colleague Bulankin out a bit in the last heat.Dmitri had to finish at least second and Nikolai at least third to go into run-offs.Nikolai it seems tucked in behind Bulankin and blocked the way past.Pity it isn't on the net as last year was super racing.Maybe someone will stick something on youtube
  22. Interesting stuff Norman. So there are still some terracing remains.I didn't even realise at it's best the place had proper terracing.I thought it was always a grass bank sort of place. So at one time there was a proper stadium there? And the photos from the 60s are also great. Was the stadium there at the time.Looks like the old pits in the background? What was still there when you was practising your leg-trailing?
  23. No Rabs.Don't know what you are on about there. But i have just started reading Bill Brysons book about words.Did you know that Russians don't have a word for engagement ring or that Papua New Guinneans have specific words for all the various trees, but no word for tree Bet you did
