  1. Quite simple really Parsloes. In essence, darts or snooker have lot's of games between the competitors to eliminate or at the very least lessen the chance of luck(good or bad)playing a role in deciding who becomes World Champ. The Speedway GP series does the same thing.
  2. The situation must be bad in the Netherlands if what i read on inspeed about Germany is true.Apparently it seems that airfences are required from 2010(?) and a lot of clubs will struggle to afford one.Maybe the KNMV and the clubs can buy one that all can use? This could see a lot of clubs go out of business,if this is to be believed of course. Anyway, good luck yourself with the start of a speedway career
  3. Yes.I wonder if there is a chance he will pull out "injured" or "sick" and be replaced by another(Bulankin?) Is that possible?I doubt the Russians will want an out of form rider representing them.I wouldn't be surprised if he is ill or something.A very poor performance from him Plus i see that the Czech Championship is over 3 meetings!!!!That is something new as far as i can remember in recent times CZ
  4. Sounds like Nikolai helped team colleague Bulankin out a bit in the last heat.Dmitri had to finish at least second and Nikolai at least third to go into run-offs.Nikolai it seems tucked in behind Bulankin and blocked the way past.Pity it isn't on the net as last year was super racing.Maybe someone will stick something on youtube
  5. Interesting stuff Norman. So there are still some terracing remains.I didn't even realise at it's best the place had proper terracing.I thought it was always a grass bank sort of place. So at one time there was a proper stadium there? And the photos from the 60s are also great. Was the stadium there at the time.Looks like the old pits in the background? What was still there when you was practising your leg-trailing?
  6. I think he is serious. He goes on and on about the one off World Finals being better than the GPs.Then admits that "i don't watch them at all.." Not really in the best position to make an informed judgment.Just a prejudiced view.I admit on the day there is nothing better than a one off World Final, but the GPs do provide some excellent speedway. It is a good idea and i can't see speedway going back to the old days.Just like we ain't going to see Lewis Hamilton and the other sprint from the pits, jump in their cars and start a GP like Fangio did, however romantic those days seemed And if we take Darts(as Parsloes mentions it)or Snooker for instance. They don't just have one game which would be very tense indeed. No,to try and make sure that the best person wins they have many games between the two opponents.More as the Finals progress i think.Which ensures really that the best Darts or Snooker player in the World wins. But Parsloes wants the Speedway world title to be decided on a bad or good piece of luck in a one day World Final
  7. The Ice Speedway meeting in Berlin is always in March. Will be nothing in Berlin or anywhere near in November or December. There are two speedway tracks by Berlin.Wolfslake and the new track in Biesenthal. There isn't much in the way of Longtrack near Berlin since they stopped using the horse track in Berlin. And that was only going for about two years. One good weekend is the grasstrack/speedway weekend at Teterow. Two days of grasstrack in the afternoons with a speedway meeting at the track next door on the first evening. Here is a map of all the tracks(although Biesenthal hasn't been put on).Just to add i think the tracks at Neustadt(indoor),Wittstock(speedway) and Lärz(Longtrack) are not running any more They are/were tracks run by the same people behind Biesenthal and they seem to open a track for a couple of years and then move on.So who knows what they will be up to this year or next!!!Once you cross them off the map it starts to look better to cross the border for a meeting in Gorzów or Zielona Gora Germany
  8. I would say the strangest piece of housing development is at the old Sandbahn track in Hamburg. They seem to have used the outline of the track for the street and housing!!!!It is almost like you could still hold a meeting inbetween the houses. Just have to put in "Max-Herz-Ring,22159 Hamburg" into googlemaps to see what i mean
  9. Yes,i was surprised at how few points Dmitri Khomitsevitsch managed. But it is an extremely tough meeting.Probably the hardest two days of the season.Although it seems this time the nominations for the World Championship have already been made.So there is no battle to get through into the World Championship for the lower places.Kononov is a bit dissapointing as well.

  11. And as Norbold pointed out i couldn't even get "fridge" right
  12. Where is California then Bob? And can anyone pinpoint High Beech on the multimap?
  13. White City(London)-BBC Celtic Park- Stamford Bridge- Harringay-Supermarket(?) New Cross-waste ground/play area Paisley-now what is going on there?St.Mirren are moving or have moved if i am right(?)
  14. Crystal Palace-Some athletics track there now
  15. I can understand how you could spell Herne and Sedgmen wrong. But Justin!!!! and twice(the other thread as well)
  16. That is of course true.I would only really say Plechanov as he never had the chance to ride for the title in his own country. That might have made the difference between 2nd place and the title. All the Polish riders had the same chance as Jerzy
  17. Well the first Eastern European World Champ should really have been Plechanov.I think he is most deserving.Of the Poles,my sypathy lies with Steady Eddie of course.Whether he was more deserving than Woryna or Pogorzelski or Rose i couldn't say.Might have changed his life for the better though if he had of done.I guess my friend from Bydoszcz would choose Glücklich
  18. Maybe get some coverage from the Russian Final. Found some amateur film from the first quali round in Novosibirisk .A lot of procesion stuff. The quali wasn't the best and at that stage there is a big difference between the top guys and the lower levels. But it does get better at about 5:30. And the next Günther Bauer perhaps?
  19. Maybe it might be on the net eh mate? I hope Dimon goes well. Also hope that young Kononov comes through.
  20. Wasn't what you said Plus i am not sure.Waloszek for one, continued riding for Poland and Polish club speedway after his British stint, into the 70s.And was of course in the 73 World Final
  21. I think no.1 is the significant factor. Not sure the other 2 + Ole will have any real effect
  22. That is only 1 GP.It wasn't particularly well attended the year before. The problem with Gelsenkirchen is,it isn't in the right place. Not saying a German GP would ever be that popular. But if it was somewhere like Hamburg or even Rostok it should be reasonably well attended.Being actually in "speedway country" as such,up here in the north. And close to Scandinavia and Rostok isn't that far from Poland either. But neither stadium have a roof But there still does seem to be clubs/stadia that are clamouring to host a GP,so there must be something in it for them.Look at the number of Polish clubs that want to host a GP.I think Gorican are waiting to host the GPs and Togliatti also.Plus Vojens is being upgraded since last year, continuously. It might get slated here, but look at the attendances over the last couple of years, since the Danes are back on top.
  23. That isn't really true,is it?There had been a number of Poles riding in Britain since the 60s.Zyto,Waloszek,Teodorowicz and of course Woryna was still riding for Poole in 73 And people seem to forget that Egon was tipped by the likes of Baryy Briggs in the Speedway Star in 83 Too true
  24. I agree Rob.Egon was far better than most give him credit for.And he achieved all that without really concentrating on speedway like most of his rivals.Plus to go to the likes of Leningrad and win was no easy task back then
  25. Day 2 and final results from the Russian Semi finals Kamensk-Urals 1.Vitali Khomitsevitch (Togliatti) 15+(3,3,2,2,3)13=28 2.Nikolai Krasnikov (Ufa) 14+(3,3,3,3,2)14=28 3.Dmitriy Khomitsevitch (Togliatti) 13+(2,3,3,3,3)14=27 4.Ilya Drozdov (Lukhovitsy) 12+(2,3,3,1,1)10=22 5.Pavel Tschajka (Lukhovitsy) 9+(2,2,2,3,1)10=19 5.Yunir Bazeev (Saransk) 10+(3,2,f,1,2)8=18 6.Mikael Bogdanov (Uchaly) 9+(2,1,0,3,3)9=18 8.Sergej Makarov (Lukhovitsy) 6+(3,2,3,2,0)10=16 -------------------------------------------------------------- 9.Andrey Gavrilkin (Saransk) 7+(1,2,0,1,f)4=11 ------------------------------------------------------------ 10 Maxim Korchemakha (Novosibirsk) 6+(0,1,1,0,2)4=10 11.Mikhail Zelepukhin (Togliatti) 3+(1,1,0,2,3)7=10 12 Alexander Kochetov (Novosibirsk) 6+(0,1,f,1,f)2=8 13.Daniel Golosheykin (Kamensk- Urals) 3+(0,0,1,2,2)5=8 14.Dmitri Koltakov (Shadrinsk) 3+(1,0,2,0,1)4=7 15.Sergey Koltakov (Shadrinsk) 2+(0,0,2,0,0)2=4 16.Maxim Koltakov (Shadrinsk) 1+(1,0,1,0,1)3=4 17.Alexander Rodin (Shadrinsk) 1+(DNR)=1 18 Alfred Safin (Uchaly) (DNR) I make it there should be a run-off for the reserve spot. Not sure what will happen as the Russian forum has Zelepukhin on 9(but with the same totals as me!).Looking on russpeedway.ru it seems Gavrilkhin got 7 not 6 yesterday and 4 not 3 today. So goes through And Ufa 1.Ivan Ivanov (Togliatti) 12+(3,3,3,3,3)15=27 2.Dmitriy Bulankin (Ufa) 13+(3,3,2,3,ex)11=24 3.Maxim Zakharov (Saransk) 11+(2,2,3,3,2)12=23+3 4.Igor Kononov (Sterlitamak) 10+(2,3,3,2,3)13=23+2 5.Danil Ivanov (Togliatti) 11+(3,2,2,3,1)11=22 6.Sergej Baltachev (Ufa) 12+(2,1,3,2,2)10=22 7.Stanislav Arkhipov (Ufa) 11+(3,0,1.5,2,1)7.5=18.5 8.Edward Krysov (Kamensk 9+(1,1,1.5,0,3)6.5=15.5 -------------------------------------------------------- 9.Dmitriy Karpukhin (Saransk) 6+(2,2,1,0,3)8=14 -------------------------------------------------------- 10.Sergey Karachintsev (Togliatti) 6+(1,1,2,1,2)7=13 11.Nikita Alekseyev (Ufa) 5+(0,3,1,1,2)7=12 12.Sergey Kazakov (Sterlitamak) 5+(1,1,0,0,1)3=8 13.Nikolai Ryabokon (Ufa) 3+(ex,2,1,20)5=8 14.Nikita Parfenov (Sterlitamak) 3+(0,0,0,0,0)0=3 15.Anton Sozykin (Ufa) 1+(0,0,0,1,1)2=3 16.Andrey Shishegov (Ufa) 1+(1,0)1=2 17. Ilya Ruzanov 0+(1)1=1 18. Anton Kovrizhin (Ufa) (DNS)(0,0,)0=0 dead heat between Arkhipov and Krysov.Bulankin excluded for bringing down Baltachev. So no team tactics in that one.Dmitri i guess going for the win against Ivan Ivanov who was also in the heat.Still good to see him back up there in the mix
