Exactly. You didn’t say that, but said they could make a crowd of 500 pay !!! You aren’t making sense economically
-
You seem to contradict yourself there The owners either want the best rental price or a speedway promoter can get a right bargain. It is one or the other
-
Or did they mean Sod all ?

No I haven’t been to the new one, but the name and tradition alone should attract a fair few, even from abroad, if only for the first one or two years The Olympic Stadium sounds good. Been to Spurs ground, but only in the new shop and even at the time the museum wasn’t finished. Looks very impressive, but without seeing inside when a game is on, hard to say

I've never been o Cardiff, for anything. Wouldn't really consider it. But Wembley.......that just has something extra for me. Possibly would consider the other option in London as well though

Statement from Wittstock Withdrawal participation in the 2nd Polish league due to the corona pandemic After a long correspondence with the local authorities and the federal government, we could not get the permission to participate in the 2nd Polish League. Due to the federal emergency brake, which is regulated in § 28 b of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG) and due to which an incidence of more than 100 has been exceeded for several days, the health department of the Ostprignitz-Neuruppin district was unable to grant approval for the competition. As evidenced by § 28b No. 6 IfSG, it applies to sport that individual sport is generally possible alone, in pairs or with members of your own household and that professional athletes and competitive athletes of the federal and state squad are also privileged. For us, this means that individual training runs are allowed, but not competitions of the team within the framework of the Polish federation. Most of the motorsport enthusiasts are neither professional athletes nor cadre athletes of the federal or performance bases. Professional athletes or professional athletes are the drivers who earn their living from sport without any other significant sources of income. We informed the PZM about the decision of the current nationwide and uniform protective measures. We have never agreed to resign or resign. A postponement of the dates into summer was unfortunately rejected. So yesterday the PZM decided against our participation in the 2nd Polish league. We expressly reject allegations that the club is unable to host a race on the Heidering. We are all very disappointed and would have liked to have played with our team in the second Polish league. However, our hands are tied and we have to bow to the uniform and nationwide Infection Protection Act. Other clubs are also affected. Clubs that claim that they have a permit to run a competition is against the law. Uniform laws cannot be repealed by a board of directors, after all it is about the community welfare and the protection of the individual. We understand the decision and will not take any other path and harm the club, the drivers or other parties involved. The damage is already big enough that the drivers have no hope of a great and sporty season. For this reason, the club decided yesterday to release the drivers for other clubs. We would be happy if one or the other club contact the drivers or us so that they can still prove their skills abroad. We will stay loyal to the 2nd Polish league in the future and bring the Heidering to a boil again with you next year in 2022. See you soon. The board of directors MSC "Wölfe" Wittstock e.V. in the ADMV

The other problem could be if the IOW ever change their mind and want to come back into the BSPA fold....
-
It is all speculation really. But anyway at this level they should all have proper jobs, and this would be more of a hobby. So I even wonder if it comes under restriction of trade.....

Interesting thoughts after the week football just had with threats to ban breakaway clubs from leagues and players from national teams etc

Eddie Brinck was one of the early US dirt track riders who also toured Australia. Think he had just returned to the States when he died I posted some evidence on a thread here that the broadsiding technique originated in the US. At least one Aussie newspaper said as much and illustrated the technique

And even if Teterow was in the town it wouldn’t make much difference from what I have seen of it -
Strange either way. I would think there is more to it He must have known his work commitments i would have thought. And he must have been absolutely terrible for them to stop the interest after just one meeting. Very unusual at the time or any time to use a rider for one meeting and then tell him he wasn’t wanted

Today marks the 80th birthday of Jürgen Hehlert. A piece from Speedweek in his honour Jürgen Hehlert will celebrate his 80th birthday on April 15, 2021. Long before the first speedway champion was chosen in the Federal Republic of Germany, he triumphed in the GDR. The first German speedway champion was raced in the former GDR in 1962, Jürgen Hehlert from Rostock won when he was just 21 years old. The younger brother of Peter Hehlert, who drove in Neubrandenburg and was jointly responsible for the renewal of the track, was able to win the title again four years later, as well as five other medals until he fled the republic in 1972 to Hanau in Hesse, where he still lives today. In 1970 Jürgen was part of the victorious quartet of the GDR selection at the Team World Cup in Ruhpolding, where the West German drivers were literally demolished. At that time it was quickly realized that progress in this sport can only be achieved if you get more starting opportunities on the cinder tracks, as they were called earlier. Three years later, the Speedway Bundesliga became a reality. The individual championship was first held in Germany in 1979 in Olching and won by Egon Müller. In the meantime, Hehlert had fallen out of favour in his federation, which was shown when he was spontaneously dropped from the team line-up for the quarter-finals at Motodrom Rodenbach “for injury reasons”, but Jürgen started another meeting in Eastern Europe that day. Together with his wife Christa and daughter Rommi, he decided to flee the republic, which resulted in the fact that he would have been banned for two years under the sports laws of the world association FIM if his previous association of the GDR had insisted on it. Since this was not the case, Jürgen Hehlert was able to continue his successful career in the West, including in the Bundesliga team of MSC Rodenbach. There he started in 1974 together with his former Rostock colleague Gerhard Uhlenbrock at the Best Pairs World Cup for the Federal Republic. Since the speedway offers in Western Europe were not that big, and an offer made by the British first division team Hull could not be brought into line with his new job, Hehlert ended his career mainly with sand and grass track races. A giant mural by a patron on his family home in honour of the speedway rider and 1st German champion. Happy birthday, Jürgen Hehlert! German Champion(GDR) 1962, 1966; Runner-up 1970, 1971; Third 1965, 1967, 1968 https://www.speedweek.com/speedwaydm/news/174046/Juergen-Hehlert-Der-erste-Deutsche-Speedway-Meister.html

Much as I thought. Thanks for that and nice to hear about his outings at Eastbourne. I was thinking he must have been taking rides elsewhere during that 1948-49 period
-
For me it is these little maybe forgotten or overlooked parts of a career that are interesting. Especially if it involves short lived tracks like Hastings and even more so Santry in Ireland. The sort of things that lead me to noticing something else interesting. Maybe Classic Speedway ignore such things, but I think it ok for something a bit less formal like the BSF
-
I would have thought he actually turned up at Hastings in the junior races and went to Ireland with them ? From memory that is what the dates seem to show Plus in a career review in Classic speedway I would have thought it would mention his first couple of seasons. But never having read the mag I have no idea
-
And yet if you read about someone like say, Mike Tams, the biog would normally include his time riding in Ireland or mention others riding for Shelbourne. Would seem to be nit picking to say Flanagan might have been guesting.....interesting all the same
