Yes.I have heard that the Russians want the Championship to be changed to U23 or something,to give other countries a better chance, but whether this will be done, and whether it will really change the Russian dominance is another matter

Can't say fairer than that.But.......do other sports drop the price if the best competitors or teams fail to make it through? If United,Chelsea,Arsenal don't get through to the FA Cup are the prices cheaper? If Brazil and Germany don't make it into the World Cup Final are the prices cheaper? If the Williams sisters etc get knocked out are the prices for the Wimbledon tennis cheaper?etc,etc......i don't know -

Trouble is Polish fans are well known for not going to meetings other than League meetings(excluding GP's.Although you could say that even GP's don't attract that many, when you take into account the amount of foreign fans at a Polish GP).I don't think there are very many meetings over the years where a crowd as big as a League meeting has turned up.So i wouldn't use those figures as evidence.Zielone Gora will get 15,000 for a league meeting, but if you held a challenge meeting against the same team you would get only a couple a 1000 regardless of the price. The same goes for practically every Polish team As eveidence look at the recent and previous Ed Jancarz Memorial meetings.Always a fantastic line-up with very cheap tickets, but still the stadium is half empty -

It is the qualifier for the GP's.So that makes it second in importance to the GP's.The standard of rider that has managed to get through isn't known until they have qualified. And as they have beaten riders of a "better" standard in the process surely the qualification process should be of some consideration. The qualification process for the ELRC is totally different from that of the GP Challenge and is of little importance in the speedway world.hence the amount of riders that normally don't bother with it(or am i mistaking it for another meeting?).The GP Challenge is of high importance to most of the riders in the world(Scott Nicholls excluded)and should be priced accordingly. You listed a number of meetings and in doing so made a perfect case against your argument -

Value for money?I would put this meeting in terms of ranking inbetween the ELRC and the British GP,so the price looks about right. As for the quality of the racing just look at the post above -

Wildcard should have gone to Nicolai or Patrick. And LiGlad should have been one of the track reserves. This time next year he will be better than Morten or Kenneth Hansen,imo.... -

But is there much point in comparing Latvia with GB? You get people complaining about the cost to what is one of the most important meetings in the country.People wonder why there are few FIM meetings. But how many travel abroad to see the same sort of meeting? Then others will rather spend 15 quid on a meaningless meeting like Ippos pairs jobby or some other 'filler' And then you get those that can't be bothered to go to the crappy EL and travel over to see some meeting in Belgium or Outer Mongolia.......but everyone has a choice on where they spend their dough.........speedway fans are weird -
Good.Looking forward to it.Yes,i think Winters looks favourite.

I would go with a good win for Esbjerg.Look stronger in depth.Kikkenborg can be a good rider at times. Not so impressed with Palm Toft though. What happened to Brian Lyngsö? -
The Hamburg Freezers ice hockey team have had two test games and the first Xmas stuff is now in the stores.......plus Conkers contacted me about hotels for Berlin. So i thought it was time we forgot about summer and started thinking about Franky Zorn,Krasnikov......and poor Mrs Mark who is probably locked away in the garage putting all those spikes in tyres Not sure what is happening with Inzell next year. Can't remember exactly, but thought they might not be running because of building work going on with a new roof.... The GP Finals look like this as far as i know: Togliatti 06/07.02 -rounds 1+2 Karasnogorsk 13/14.02 -rounds 3+4 Assen 13/14.03 -rounds 5+6 Berlin 20/21.03 -rounds 7+8 And the team final 30/31.01 Saransk plus the Sanok Cup is down for the 15/16.01 with Krasnikov,Zorn,Bauer and Posa supposedly confirmed..........

Yes Eddie was a great rider for the Dons.I didn't know and probably still don't know all that went on in his life after speedway. But i do remember a female Polish fan telling me rather frankly that he wasn't a hero in his domestic life........A sad end to one of the true great Polish stars.I went to the Jancarz memorial last year and saw the stadium.Missed the statue though. But was just talking about it a couple of weeks back.At the same time i met the son and grandson of Toni Woryna, who was another of the early stars.A very nice pair and i am keeping in touch with him.Sadly i learnt that Antoni died about 8 years ago.

Elite League Pairs 08/08
iris123 replied to woofers's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Personally i thought it was a pretty good advert for speedway. And i thought the points scoring helped that.Wouldn't want to tinker with it when it seems to work.Maybe all pairs could meet each other, but the way the points are calculated helps team riding. And it shouldn't be a surprise that Hans was good.I have thought for a number of years that not only is he a good team rider. But a good team man.Always out looking after riders that have fallen,or speaking to less experienced riders to help out. Was just a pity BV couldn't use a guest or 2 . -
There are 54 Superliga meetings in a season, plus other meetings like SWC,2 GP's and the European U19 team final....as well as some fantastic 80cc meetings to watch this year.So they aren't really in a speedway desert over the border
