  1. Every cloud has a silver lining then You won't know what to moan about will ya?
  2. Nice bit of film put together from Krasnogorsk 1998 and Balashov celebrating
  3. But you were assuming Jack Young would have been in the 51 GPs.How many British riders were in the series and would he have been in with a serious chance of a WC? To say he would have qualified is putting to much trust in stats maybe.I reckon if we do something else.....pretend we didn't have a GP series and look at stats we would probably be saying Gollob and/or Adams would have won a GP series because of their constistency looking at league averages and all.......but it didn't happen.I'd say it is very risky to assume Young would have been in the 51 series........anyway,i only wanted to know where these GPs were being held back in the 30s,40s and 50s
  4. I think Briggo would have taken a couple of titles under a GP system.Don't know what years, but Ove would have faltered and Briggo would have given it a hell of a go.He was pretty focused i'd say, talented enough as well and a born winner.I can't see Briggo's name not being on the World Championship list once or twice at least no matter what system. And that has little to do with one of my family spannering for Mirac and Briggo
  5. Yes,maybe 1960/61 were his peak years,but.......what you are attempting to do is re-write history, but without the consequences. You can't change one thing, but keep everything else the same as it was. What i am saying is if there was a GP system then maybe after winning the title 3,4 or 5 times 1960/61 wouldn't have been his peak years.Maybe he would have found it hard to get so motivated and stay on top of his game over such a long period, like Crump,Rickardsson and Nicki have found.
  6. In a way, i am not sure that is the right question? Were Rickardssons opponents as good as him is more relevant.I'd say Fundin had far better opponents than Rickardsson so would be at least as likely to lose a title or 2 even in a GP series. It isn't easy to keep up the same level of motivation if you win 3,4 or 5 World titles on the trot.I'd say the fact Fundin lost a title or two along the way kept him motivated over that length of time
  7. Me too,but not every week and from Tooting Junction Stn.Plus i used to use it a bit to see Stan Bowles,Phil Parkes,Terry Mancini Dave thingmybob and the other players in that super QPR team of the early 70s
  8. The 220 must have been one of the longest routes ever back then
  9. Missed that bit.I read about the pre-war years and then thought the consensus was Jack Young was about to dominate.......then nodded off Good on you.I agree with that bit at least
  10. I remember once when i was in my 20s and ready to take on the world walking down there, only to get as far as the spot where it narrowed right down,to find it blocked off ......
  11. Glad you see my point Norbold. And i think you are right. It is impossible to think Ove would have won all through those years.Recent experience with Rickardsson shows that even if you are the best in the world other factors come into play to stop you making a clean sweep year after year.Plus i think Ronnie would have won at least one World Championship no matter what system...... And Plechanov would have won one as well. But i am sure you will come to that soon enough
  12. QUOTE (Robbie B @ Sep 9 2009, 08:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Iris123 I said eerie not scarey. I wasn't that old at first, sometimes I could swear I heard people moving around the graveyard (my imagination I guess) I know what you said.I said Blackshaw Road was ok and the alley was scary. And i was 12 and then older when i walked back to Colliers Wood along Blackshaw Road.Sometimes with mates, sometimes alone.I think i went along the alley once with my dad and a couple of times with my mad mate Sean
  13. 60 +62 i will give you.But in Vienna and Abensberg Ove wasn't really the force behind the Swedish wins. And in Germany was outscored by Plechanov for instance. But neither Vienna or Abensberg were behind the iron curtain anyway
  14. All well and good up to this point. Not going to get into it too much. But now where exactly do we think these fictional GP's will take place?Because we are(well you two or three)are getting into the period where for instance Samorodov and later Plechanov showed they were a pretty god match for the western riders away from home. But would the western riders be able to match them if there were 3 or 4 GP's behind the iron curtain ,where things would have been made difficult for themno doubt. And that without the ability of the Russians and Poles....
  15. QUOTE (Robbie B @ Sep 6 2009, 01:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I remember that after a lateish meeting, walking down Blackshaw Road, with the cemetery beside you was well eerie when I was younger, on my way getting a 155 bus back to Kennington. Are you kidding?Blackshaw Road was ok.The alley that went parallel on the other side of the cemetery and past the Sewage works, through to Colliers Wood. Now that was bloody scary I only went down that way about 3 times after a speedway meeting.
  16. Ach you covered yourself with the could. You didn't say it definitely was going to be.I await your theory on Bank Holiday traffic......"We could expect delays",maybe? The economic crisis could be coming to an end soon We might have a white Christmas as well.I only mention this one because i saw the first Xmas decorations on a house i come past on my way back from work!!!!!
  17. Apparently on Polsat monday night it was said that if Bomber doesn't make it through the GP Challenge then Tai will get a Wildcard. How much truth the Polish journo knows remains to be seen.But........
  18. Everything is up for discussion.....but just like Rymel missing or Poole cheating. In the end it has been discussed to death and back again.Sky and Speedway Star are at the top along with the BSPA in the category We know the consensus is they are all crap,Poole cheated but it couldn't be proved and Rymel well.............
  19. Oh well, just a few minutes after the last moan about Sky here we go again.................
  20. Russians seem to have their calendar sorted out...... Quarter Finals of the Russian Championship will be held on the 12/13th December in Novosibirisk,Shadrinsk,Togliatti,Ufa.Then the semi's on 19/20th Dec in Kamensk-Urals and Sterlitamak with the Final being held on the 2/3rd january in Shadrinsk,so the top riders can be selected for the World Championship quali rounds. Ufa will host the European Championship Final, which will also host the Cup of Russia which is the Russian quali for the Euro Finals More info on the Russian forum
  21. They are pulling your leg Scott. You will have to ask for a wildcard again.Don't what ever you do part with any cash
  22. Amazing!!!!I didn't realise that,even after over 40 years of experiencing Septembers
  23. But a rider wouldn't get a chance to recover from an injury incured in the first GP,unlike the 2 weeks or more break they have normally.Riders and fans and of course tv want to see all the top riders present. And even if they are not injured in the GP often a rider will make a comeback from injury at a GP.But two on the trot would be hard to do.Plus the tv companies like Sky would find it hard to build up 2 GPs on one weekend like they can do with one GP.........newspapers and magazines the same.
  24. Don't forget Denmark had an untimely injury to Kildemand(?) last year when seemingly in command........if my memory is correct
  25. Wouldn't worry....Gorzów isn't one of the most exciting tracks in the speedway world....gate and gooooooooo
