  1. Not going to get into the Carter stuff. Can't say i ever liked the guy........But a couple of points. Were the "super-tuned GMs" illegal then? Because only if they were illegal and everyone else was riding Weslakes,Jawas etc is that a valid point.Egon got kitted out with a bike worthy of a World Final if it was the best. Can you blame him for that? And surely it was blooming obvious the track was going to suit him.I mean you have a GP/World Final in Poland and they try to make the track suit their riders the same as they do in Denmark.......Only Egon was good enough to capitalise on those things.Other riders, particularly the Polish guys during the old one-off World Finals couldn't do it apart from the one.If Ivan Mauger ever found something that would give him even a tiny advantage he would use it and so would probably any World Champ
  2. Pity that Laguta isn't there.Seems he was a likely competitor and has stated he wants to take Ice racing seriously and try to break into the Russian team. But went to Thailand for an Aquabike comp. Not sure if that is as spectator or competitor. But he would certainly be a decent challenger to Tchajka Having looked at the entries for the Russian Championship i can't see Laguta's name among them..........
  3. No it is definitely Ringblom, not sure of his first name though
  4. I heard from his ex spanner man from Denmark that Arthur might be making a return visit for the YGT in Vojens.Any truth in this Crazy? Would love to see him and Steve again and maybe your good self
  5. Talking of the Swiss, here is a bit about Göldi's 4,000 km trip to the training camp in Ufa Heinz Göldi
  6. Well i was also at the Dons v Birmingham meeting and there must have been a change because i originally had Askew down as last in heat 2,but changed it to Askew finishing third and Sansom last But heat 3 i have as 61.5,although i have heat 4 at 60.5.........
  7. Vojens for me.Easy to get to,great atmosphere, good food, lovely women. The only minus points are getting away from the place and the ever present rain
  8. Tickets also on sale for Innsbruck here
  9. Apart from the SWC or Team World Cup or whatever it is called next year. And maybe explains why it is only held in Denmark and Poland nowadays as a British promoter would be taking a huge gamble in applying for the meetings with no assurance that GB would be there.Whereas Poland and Denmark are pretty safe bets to get into the final,so the risk is very small
  10. Don't think Joomla is a member of this forum,so i would blame a guy called Parsloes 1928 nearly. Not sure what you are on about though.Maybe ask a guy called Haggis he also talks a bit strange
  11. This great site on Danish speedway tracks has just been updated with info on the old Fredericia stadium.Well worth a look, not only at this stadium but the rest of the website Fredericia
  12. Yes Norbold.Lionel Wills was the man i was thinking of.........thanks
  13. Wasn't the Crystal Palace promoter also partially responsible?Didn't he make a trip to Oz and was impressed by what he saw there speedway wise and thought it would be great in Britain.Thought he was doing Path racing at Crystal Palace pre 1928.Can't think of his name though
  14. Mayb it hasn't stood the test of time, but i always avidly watched The Wild Wild West.Never seen the recent-ish film though. But the series was a great mix of western and James Bond style spy story. Then again i used to love Hogans Heroes as a kid,but when i watched the repeats some years later it seemed crap
  15. Ouch! Anyway whilst we are on the subject of Music Hall where there any of the oldies from back then interested in speedway? We often get a thread about famous fans at the moment such as Mark Weber. But back when speedway was really popular i guess there must have been some pretty famous fans attending.Harry Lauder for one lived a hop, skip and a jump from Plough Lane. But he also had a cnnection with Millwall football club,so maybe he attended New Cross?
  16. Ah you gotta admit it has almost become a music hall section....the old "tallest rider" catchphrase seems to get trotted out ever more frequently. No don't laugh! If you laugh he knows i am being rude. I fell in love with Mary from the dairy, But Mary didn't fall in love with me
  17. I can quite believe you.Trouble is we are talking about GPs only here and he just isn't a GP rider.I'd rather see Nicolai in them than Harris And next year Nic will have to watch out that LiGlad doesn't overtake him anyway......At least Walasek and Ulamek managed to qualify by right.Only one of them with home track advantage, which Harris couldn't use.And just imagine where he would have finished if the thing was held on another track. It all feels a bit embarassing to be a Brit abroad and read and hear some of the things said.......how the tables have turned
  18. The statement doesn't work once you include Harris unfortunately He brings very little to the GP table.About as much as Ulamek and Walasek i would say.....
  19. Give over.It is bad enough now,but imagine a freak result from the likes of Stead,Screen......take your pick really. And you would want to give a spot in a GP series to them? Someone earlier hit the nail firmly on the head by saying years ago we used to complain that spots in the World Final were taken up by dodgy foreigners. How times have changed. Now the foreigners are shaking their heads that places in a GP series are taken up by dodgy Brits. If that is something to make some people proud,it isn't something that makes me proud i can tell you. Come the start of the GPs i will however be wanting the two of them to do well. But at the moment it is grounds for complaint. If we don't let those in charge know how we feel they will think everything is hunky dory. They will still carry on regardless, but at least if support drops off, they might just have an idea why.Pity we didn't have forums all those years ago when support of speedway dropped rapidly away from those boom years.maybe if those lost supporters had a forum on which they could air their views ...well Promoters would have probably ignored them as well. But they might have been wiser after the event to stop the sport going even further down the ladder
  20. Surely one of the traits of being "english" is seeing fair play done. This is in no way fair play and goes against all that being "english" should stand for, imo.
  21. Why is it obvious Steve? Two struggling Brits will get more attention than one Like people have said at Cardiff you will still get the one struggler and the meeting WC to gain more support.Just don't understand it myself and it won't make me want to see the GPs more because there are two Brits. It is quite clear that Tai has been promoted into the series over about 10 riders at the very least who are better. And why keep giving Harris another chance when there are at least 10 riders as good?
  22. Sounds like a likely scenario.Last i heard Rune was going to think things over during the winter. So i guess he is still going through that process. Like others said Harris couldn't even make it on his own track,so shouldn't be there. And if your scenario pans out Smolinski will be second reserve for the GPs
  23. Let's see him top the PL averages next year first. But share your sentiments
