  1. Hope our boys get plenty of track time through the season,as i would have thought you go for a track that gives the home team an advantage. But from my limited knowledge more foreign riders have ridden the track than British over the past few years.Australia probably have a few track experts.Or maybe we ain't looking to go straight through to the final Sometimes the allocation of tracks in Gb make me wonder what is going on.A competition that cries out for a "neutral" track gets allocated to a team in that competition.Whereas a competition that needs a track biased towards our riders gets allocated to a "neutral" track
  2. Pretty long career at a good level. We know that the French had their own version of the World Championship, but did any of them come over and compete in our version? And i think i have rumbled you boy.All the talk about French riders and then this continous stuff about "mind the lamp post"........Jacques Tati!!!!! That scene when he is walking down the road and the kids on the other side of the street whistle just as he is approaching the lamp post.Whallop.He didn't mind it did he? Funny scene
  3. No you have that wrong Norbold.McKay wasn't really a kosher speedway rider and according to Cyril May it was Galloway who gave the cameras the first proper broadsliding exhibition seen in GB.Ok some might discredit Mr May,but millions believe in the bible and that is based on less facts than Cyrils book and articles i guess.I mean at least he did speak to the man in question and get the tale from the horses mouth
  4. Still a chance he might have though i guess
  5. Will certainly hit the pubs here soon.In Germany small pubs are exempt at the moment if they are under 75qm.And round the Reeperbahn for instance there are lots of very small pubs. You can only get about 10 or 15 people in some!!!I had never seen such small places before coming here. But the rules will change soon and they will also become no smoking zones. Can imagine that might hit business hardThought i also read that even these smoking areas in restaurants will also have to go and it will be 100% no smoking which is ridiculous and i am a non smoker.......
  6. The German nominations for the World Championship.Plus the problem with qualification spots due to Poland(and of course Netherlands i guess)having a reserved place in the GPs...... World Championship nominations
  7. Ok Norbold.I always assumed they were on a mission to gain some pre-publicity with a number of contacts to get in touch with when they arrived.Or were even waiting for them when they got off the ship.So some work would have been going on while they were underway. It all sounds so crazy it must be true.A promoter coming over with no riders and a rider coming over with nobody else who knew anything about speedway,no meetings or competitors........ So if Galloway and McKay didn't ride at Stamford Bridge in 1927.....who did? And who rode in Paris on new years day 1928?
  8. Was just pointing out that 3 weeks even would be plenty of notice to arrange for cameras to film this exciting new sport from Australia
  9. Oh i don't know Norbold. How long did a ship take to travel from Australia in those days?
  10. The Thomas-A-Beckett!!!! Blimey that was a landmark and all the history tied up with the place. All the great boxers who trained there And on the other point....i was thinking the same
  11. Mmm wonder what i am doing "around Christmas 2010"! And i think "Hatcham" is the pub expert in that area.Remember him saying a year or more back that half the pubs i remember are gone!!!!
  12. Glad you have evidence Norbold. But one would assume(wrongly in my case )that if "around Christmas 1927" was mentioned then the guys could remember celebrating Christmas in blighty or it was a matter of days before they arrived or "around the New Year" would be a better statement to make
  13. This is from Gus Kuhn's website.Part of an article by Cyril May from 1977 Speedway Express, but there was also an article about it round the same time in the Speedway Star where it mentioned December 1927 as well.Obviously i guess dates have been confused and Norbold has evidence of the actual date
  14. Also on the itn site is a meeting which England lost to France in 1931! A fiercly fought battle. But looking on Brian Collins' excellent site there is no mention of a meeting between England and France in 1931.Pity there is no preview available. And i wonder about the date of the Paris meeting in 1928.It states 1st January!!!!!But that is the same date given for the other meeting on there from 1928.Coincidence?Or could Galloway and McKay have raced in London in December 1927 and then gone on to Paris in January 1928?
  15. Thought it was alittle hard to tell about Daniil. There were a few races resterted because of falls or riders took a bale with them round the track. So a lot of the placings would have been different had the heat been run through. From the first day at least.Tschajka looked good. But i thought Korchemakha looked very impressive in the heat he came through into second place and then fell.Apparently he knackered his bike, went out on someone elses in the next heat, then packed up for the day.Obviously today the promise he showed yesterday was turned into points.Definitely one to watch this season. But Ivan looks to be on the way down as shown last season as well.Dimon can only have one or two good races in a weekend now, sadly We have to hope Franky can give Nikolai a scare or two as it doesn't look like anyone else will Todays meeting video Great race between Vitali.K,Tschajka and Kononov
  16. Yes Ian.Great race in heat 17(02.43 on the video).Nikolai was squeezed out on the first turn by Bulankin and chased Vitali until the last bend to win the heat. Some good heats through the meeting, but some riders had problems with the straw bales
  17. Whatever the case with the companies life span,i can't remember the White City being on the site a year or so ago.So hopefully they are still going through the archives and putting more stuff online.Good news if they can unearth some more gems.........would be great to see the 1927 footage of Billy Galloway going round Stamford Bridge
  18. Video of this afternoons meeting in Novosibirisk for the Vladimir Paznikov memorial trophy with all the top Russians V.Paznikov Memorial Results from the meeting Nikolay Krasnikov Ufa (3,3,3,3, 3)15 Dmitry Khomitsevich Togliatti (3,3,3,2,2)13 Vitaly Khomitsevich Togliatti (3,3,1,3,2)12 Igor Kononov Sterlitamak (,2,2,1,3,3) 11 Paul Tschajka Lukhovicy (0,3,2,2,3) 10 Daniil Ivanov Togliatti (3,1,3,2,0) 9 Dmitry Bulankina Ufa (1,0,3,3,1) 8 Ivan Ivanov Togliatti (2,2,1,1,2) 8 Maxim Zakharov Saransk (2,2,2,0,1) 7 Nikita Alexeev Ufa (1,0,2,2,0) 5 Ilya Drozdov Lukhovicy (1,2,0,0,1) 4 Edward Krysov Kamensk-Uralsky (0,0,1,0,3) 4 Alexander Kochetov Novosibirsk (2,1,0,1, x)4 Sergey Makarov Luhovicy (0,1,0,1,2) 4 Stanislav Arkhipov Ufa (0,1,2, x,-) 3 Andrei Zhdanov Novosibirsk (0,1) 1 Maxim Korchemaha Novosibirsk (0,fx,0 )0 Vyacheslav Svitek Novosibirsk (0) 0
  19. Here is the website info in english Innsbruck tickets
  20. I read that the Swiss are a bit upset with their World Champ allocation.Apparently they have 11 riders and asked for 6 places. They only got 2 places.Whereas the Norwegians asked for 2 and got 2(Roy Otto being FIM President had something to do with this?) and the Czechs who the piece said apart from the Klatovsky bros hardly have a bike between them have their allocation raised to 5 riders having asked for 5 places!!! Seems from the Swiss spokesman that this decision could see a few of their riders end their career And agree wholeheartedly with those above.Ice Racing really has to be experienced live to fully appreciate the thrills and skills. It is something else. And the atmosphere from the crowd is super
  21. Here is a good online history of the season/period Wimbledon Also on the Gus Kuhn site is more to the story of the first sight of speedway in London. The day Billy Galloway and Keith McKay rode for the cameras at Stamford Bridge in 1937 Stamford Bridge
  22. But how do they do that just by letting outside riders in?Steve has it right,it is down to money. If riders were pulling out of the meeting before why will a change of name stop them next year?Only if they stump up enough dosh will that end,not by a change of name
  23. Ok,fair enough.I saw the quote as a suggestion that Egons bike was illegal not as a humourous remark
  24. The thing is why didn't Carter or anyone else that day put in a protest if they thought there was something illegal about Egons bike? Why don't they do this in general.I mean all the talk this year about Emil when he was way faster than all the others for a month or so.Why didn't anyone put up the money for a protest instead of all the whispering in the background and afterwards? We know there is cheating going on or at least there was.many riders have spilled the beans after they have retired. But very few get caught at it.......
