  1. Is it something to do with the words ? It wasn’t that England had won more individual world titles, but……
  2. From memory didn’t two Germans ride for Preston together pre-war ? I know two rode for Somerset. Maybe 3.Kröger and Loof. And Katt ?
  3. Oh yes. Who could forget Jagus who must have been about 50 when he made the GP’s
  4. Was there actually a stadium as such at High Beech. Not something I ever looked into, but just imagined it was just a track in the middle of a field. At those early meetings did they actually charge admission ?
  5. The last time I was there you could still make out some of the terracing.I also remember in the 80s some of the entrance was still standing
  6. Unlike a few others, I had lost interest in speedway by the time I had to choose where to take my degree. It was between High Wycombe and Kingston. I plumped for Kingston As for tracks I wish I had visited Crystal Palace, New Cross, Stamford Bridge (even though there was a track there back in the 70s when I watched footie), Harringay and West Ham
  7. Collins and Harkins rode for Wembley if that counts as similar to Wales ? Although they also rode for Coatbridge as well with a few other Scots I think
  8. Ronnie Moore, Tommy Jansson, Roger Johns, Peter Collins and Nicki Pedersen
  9. Well this came up on my timeline today from 2017. My comment at the top, of course Great new project or load of old bull? A worldwide TV audience will see the official launch of World Elite Speedway in October 2017, In an attempt to clarify the situation and stop malicious rumours and ill informed guess work by certain sections of the Speedway media. World Elite Speedway have issued the following statement. "World Elite Speedway is being set up to take Speedway to new audiences worldwide. The concept is the brainchild of Ducati Moto GP supremo Toni Franchitti. Broadly speaking the series will be staged at locations close to the Moto GP circuits worldwide. Toni who is a very successful Italian businessman has appointed his daughter BIANCA and former Scottish Speedway legend NEIL MACFARLANE as joint Chief Executive Officers. Neil said that Toni has always had a passion for two wheeled motor sports and when he approached me to help run the project I had no hesitation in accepting the challenge. The riders will come from the top echelon of world speedway whom are available to sign lucrative contracts before the end of this year. Planning is at an advanced stage with top Speedway personnel from Hungary, Poland, America as well as the United Kingdom already on board. All officials already committed to the project have a wealth of experience from riding at the top level, through team management and promoting, including FIM events. WES executives have already had meetings with the FIM to discuss the project and more meetings are planned in the near future" 6 Kommentare Teilen
  10. I automatically thought of Jack Parker and Lammy. Both wrong
  11. Ha ha I saw some comments yesterday about the field and price for a meeting at Teterow 20€ for a low level international field. And one guy was defending it saying how hard it is in Covid times to assemble a field of riders and anyway it is cheaper than Brokstedt the other day for a junior meeting !!! So Brokstedt is going to be used as the measure to which other promotions can compare and say ‘ at least we are cheaper than Brokstedt’
  12. It did come up. Maybe they stopped watching before the nominated heats ? Just out of interest, how did the weather hold up ? In parts of Hamburg we had some flooding !! https://www.mopo.de/hamburg/starkregen-ueber-hamburg-vollgelaufener-keller-und-ueberflutete-strasse/ Also saw the crowd was very disappointing. 650 or so. But maybe the weather and the price played a part. Thought it pretty expensive for what was basically a junior meeting
  13. Is that the new track in Neubrandenburg ? There was a track years ago. If that is the one you mean, yes it is all looking positive. Slow, but going forward
  14. Not true. There was of course the meeting in Nordhastedt not far away. Also today is another meeting in Parchim and Stralsund will host the German Individual final soon
  15. Was somewhat surprised that Brokstedt announced yesterday evening that everything was ready for the meeting today. We had about an hour when the heavens just opened up and most of the rest of the day was wet
  16. I can't really say. There has been some heavy rain, even flooding in areas near Brokstedt (Bad Segeberg for instance just 30 miles away) and rain, some heavy all day today, and a lot of tomorrow. But maybe they are lucky and are just outside the rain. Tbh in Hamburg we haven't had much more than a small shower Today’s weather symbol
  17. I did wonder a few days ago, but seeing as our Finnish expert hasn't posted, do we think he is again waiting for the official news or it isn't true. They do have a track record to be admired though
  18. About 30 miles away was flooded this morning and there is a storm warning for the area right now. And it carries in for the next few days
  19. I doubt it looking at the weather. Looks like you have to get your ticket online. Don't think you can just turn up on the day if the weather is ok. Same, I was hoping to go to a local football game Friday. But as you have to buy a ticket mon-thurs I think I will give that a miss as well
  20. All the effort might be for nothing. Rain/Showers predicted every day this week. Some days fairly heavy, although from Thursday not so. Not sure if Brokstedt have any covers
  21. When I saw you had posted I feared it would be Finland had withdrawn. Hope Vuolas is fit for next week then
