  1. Reminds me of the children's show when the young girl talked about the Grand Pricks Think she went on to star in Eastenders ? But can't remember her name now
  2. Seems noise traps are going to be set up in Paris and 7 other French cities from this November
  3. There was also an ex motorcycle speedway rider on I think breakfast tv to talk about his illness and when he mentioned speedway they thought he was a car racer, and that was UK tv Also from memory if you google just speedway you get an awful lot of US car racing come up in the results
  4. Think you have got yourself totally mixed up here. The term speedway for a track goes back at least to 1909 or so when the Indianapolis speedway opened This is a car racing track https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.motorsport-total.com/gt-masters/news/adac-gt-masters-lausitzring-2021-mercedes-amg-sieg-corvette-fackelt-ab-21091204%3famp=1
  5. Not specifically doubling up, but I was listening to Stephan Katt commentating on a meeting Friday night. The meeting was delayed for about 90 minutes due to rain and one of the topics being discussed 'for the newcomers' was riders turning out one night for one team and the next for another.Katt recalled his Somerset days sharing a van with Matten Kröger and racing with him in the UK and then parting at the airport and they could be racing against each other the next day. And in his opinion that was one of the great things about the sport !!!
  6. Cloppenburg v Güstrow v Berghaupten v Stralsund There is a 90 minute break due to torrential rain after ht 3 https://www.twitch.tv/needforspeedway/?fbclid=IwAR2xGr_gcQv3rUwgLwncp_Tsw__goDQO7SF6sjKVWtq3zbLvC2JcIu1g3mg
  7. Just noticed this Flat Track meeting on at one of my local speedway tracks soon. Looks quite interesting. Especially the Supergirl and Electric classes
  8. Given some of the inane commentary and rider interviews, I often do The racing doesn't suddenly get better or worse. But I can listen to something a bit more interesting.
  9. Actually about a decade ago there was talk of doing an ice speedway meeting here with just that sort of concept. Laying down sections. The trouble was with the depth needed for the spikes, I think
  10. Well Briggo was talking decades ago about finding a new surface that would prevent rain offs etc. Not happened so far. And my one meeting watching speedway on concrete was a bit of a disaster from a viewing and rider (so many injuries) perspective. But maybe they just need to have more practice and it would be a go-er

  12. It's also not unreasonable to think that some of these sources of energy that are in their relative infancy won't be improved considerably. Just like the combustion engine has over the decades But the fact is, even as it stands it is obvious that electric powered bikes would be perfectly able to do a speedway meeting, if they can do MotoX
  13. It's not about being a crowd puller. I think the sport is in such a hole there isn't much chance of it finding a crowd puller. It is about surviving in the future. Emissions is just one problem that is on the agenda. And to most people it is the lesser problem. Noise is the big one if you want motorcycle sport in urban areas. If you are lucky to have a track in the middle of nowhere then good. But there is a major problem right there. That tracks way out don't attract many and have little chance to attract many. The bigger the population near a track the more chance you have to find fans and sponsors that are interested. Plus and a very important aspect mentioned by Vince, is that it opens up training opportunities which are needed
  14. Smolinski and Tobi Kroner almost 10 years ago with the Egon Müller developed bikes. Think they are making it look good though .Seem to remember Robert Lambert having a go with Smoli at Norden I think
  15. Interesting football development https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/58463458
  16. The move against noise pollution is getting stronger by the week it seems and isn't going to go away. I posted on her possibly a year ago about some moves. Towns and cities banning loud motorbikes at the weekend. Now Paris has even gone to a 30kmh limit in most areas, and noise was one of the factors. It is getting hard for private people, so a recreational sport will find itself under even more pressure and especially one that is only watched by a small strange section of society has no real pressure working in its favour You could say it is even less necessary in Denmark as most of their tracks, possibly all are outside residential areas. Often well away
  17. Been t a couple that are fairly popular and were even more so years ago, although with Teterow the main attraction is the grass track and the speedway in the evening sort of clashes with peoples wish to parteee But the Pardubice Golden helmet weekend is also quite popular
  18. All seemed to go quiet after Egon Müllers failed attempt to get e-speedway going Now it seems Denmark might be the first country to have an e-Speedway league ? From a worldwide firm with a base in Denmark https://www.boosted.dk/bliver-danmark-foerste-land-i-verden-koerer-speedway-paa-stroem/ https://switchmotorcycles.com/about/
  19. Well I missed that. Lost interest by 1978 and only went to a couple of meetings until started going regularly again in 1984. Certainly by then it wasn’t what it was in the 60s and 70s
  20. Put it in your calendar. Looks almost certain to take place seeing as Denmark will stop all Covid measures in September, and seemingly unless some disaster happens won't bring them back At the Iscenter Nord, Frederickshavn. Right up near Skagen
  21. Funny. I typed in Castagna yesterday and it came out Cartagena. Then I looked later at the Poole thread and someone else had put Cartagena in, so I assume the same thing happened to them
  22. What I said Wrapped up in the occasion. I just think he was being respectful at such an event to honour PC
  23. I am not sure what Ove could have meant. Not as if he admitted' anything though. He might have thought it, and I would say he was probably wrapped up in the ocassion I wondered what he might have not won if PC was still alive and at first glance thought maybe the European title in 1965. But then no British rider rode in that, being seeded through to the World Final from the British and Commonwealth Final. And I doubt PC would have made up the 13 pt difference in the two WTC finals (1964+ 1967) . In fact it was impossible by my reckoning. So if Ove really thought that, then he was talking about some open meeting like Pride of the East style level
  24. I thought Castagna wanted Patagonia. Maybe some other places with an Italian link ? Abbysinnian GP ?
