  1. A thought came to me of all those fans who missed the night Well one person, Phil Rising, who was as patriotic as the next. He would have loved the moment
  2. Nobody is saying it is a new thing. Just interesting, and he is pretty damn good. Most of the stuff I have seen is like the Blue Peter stuff The speedway riders were very impressed. The guy reached the standard they had hoped for by the end of the day, after his first session
  3. An MX rider tries out speedway for the first time and wins a race against a youth rider. Looks very good for a first timer, although he does mention he has done Flat Track. At Neuenknick with Rene Deddens and Sönke Petersen in the wheel chair helping out. Also some races from Cloppenburg the night before
  4. I did wonder where that came from. Think maybe a US track might be that sort of length. Did see some action from an East Coast track that was fairly small and that West Coast track in a car park is also tiny from memory
  5. Isn’t the track run by the Kroner family ? Thought Tobi’s dad was the boss, but he might have passed over the job to his son
  6. Slightly off topic. But it seems Henry was also exciting, even at the age of 78
  7. The one thing he has going for him, over most if not all German, and many others, is that he talks a good game, and is more media savvy than most. In the Egon Müller mould, though without the success/talent of Müller. They are the only two I have seen on tv talk shows here
  8. Really ? Haven't seen a single post tbh. But although I haven't followed his season too closely, I thought he was on the way down form wise Just checked, and he is behind Huckenbeck and Wölbert in the Polish div 2 averages. Not sure if he rode in Sweden ? I wouldn't think he deserves one and neither do the other two, and I am a Wölbert fan of many years
  9. I don't disagree with you, I am just stating what many on here were saying. It wasn't the meeting wildcard, but a season long one that was important/needed. And it could well be the same people who state they want the top 15 in the world as long as one of their countrymen is in. In this case, GB. But once they don't have a rider in, they will start to say, it is important to get a permanent wc, and like you point out it sometimes is. Which takes us back to the point I made about ice speedway
  10. No, but there were plenty here a decade or so ago always posting that GB had to get a wc because Cardiff was the most important GP on the calendar
  11. It was like that when Gorcan came on the scene and Pavlic got wildcards
  12. Yes. Just read it is an individual meeting, but points go to the teams like they say the Formula 1 construction championship, however that works. So it is a bit of both
  13. Not sure at all. Just figured it was pairs, because they were riding for teams and there are two for each team
  14. It is in fact a pairs meeting, which includes the debut of the new track Neubrandenburg, putting out a pair. A little promo thing really as this is speedway, we could have had New Cross or whatever
  15. Maybe, maybe not The ice speedway world championships has become more and more limited in that respect as the majority of the worlds best riders belong to one country, Russia. So limits are put on the number of Russians, to keep it a ‘world’ championship, in the sense that they want to keep as much of the world involved and interested and financially active The Football world finals also limit the amount of countries from the strongest continent (s) to give the rest of the world the chance to participate There are some merits in this
  16. Isort of like False Dawn's idea in theory. Trouble is, in practice speedway is often down to the track the meeting is held at, as to who might qualify. And I fear we would have a few real bummers getting through and moaning about that instead...... As for the Wildcard, I think you are wrong on that, as it should be used for one of the top riders who was injured, for instance
  17. I wasn't even implying it did. My answer was Plechanov, full stop.......
  18. Thanks Did wonder as one of my Russian friends posted a couple of videos of Russian fans packed into a bus celebrating. Nobody wearing masks
  19. And some bloke who is nowadays more famous for coffee had his music played at the end Chai Kovsky
  20. What surprised me yesterday, seeing as the title was on the line in the last GP and a Pole was in the running, was quite a few empty seats. Now I only watch sporadically, so it might be normal or was it down to some restriction ? Didn't seem like it though as the empty seats were also sporadic, rather than planned by the look of it
  21. Some strange choices, but probably due to the real lack in depth nowadays in the sport. No real great star in Denmark and only Freddie in Sweden. You'd ( I mean the authorities) probably keep Vaculik just because it is another country that might never get a rider in the top echelons again. Same with Zagar
  22. Think Laguta was more interested in staying out of trouble, so he could enjoy the celebrations, and who can blame him ?
