  1. Seems if you get out in front you look good, but if you are left you don't have much chance.Harris + Laguta have looked good and then poor ...
  2. Well as a Millwall fan it is "C'mon you Lioooons" .na couldn't care less, just want to see some decent racing
  3. Synchronised speedway though....nothing much to get excited about, apart from a good display from Jamróg imo.Hope for better in the next meeting

  5. Hope the weather holds up.Yesterdays meetingwas delayed and then called off after a few heats, but at least it is dry at the moment http://www.motorspor...ts-4804894.html The official debut of Gerd Riss' sons Just read training has been cancelled.Start at 14:00 here or 13:00 british time
  6. 7 heats done and i think it is Ukr 15,Cz 14,US 7 and Slo 4,but the last heat results are a bit weird so not sure https://docs.google....pRbzg1TEE#gid=0
  7. This looks like it is set-up for updates, although not sure those line-ups are correct http://speedwaylive....924&nid=6184570
  8. I'd say calling the debate a draw is rather like the Monty Python knight who lost all his limbs wanting to call his fight a draw
  9. Have a look at www.speedwaylive.hu He normally has most live stuff going
  10. 19 year old Charlie Biddle was killed a few weeks after the first meeting in 1928
  11. Well the link for the Daugavpils meeting was on Facebook a few times, plus the Russian speedway forum.I imagine that this will be the case for every Daugavpils home meeting.Looked a bit wobbly, the camera work, but was still fine to watch.Hope they show all the meetings live and hope some other clubs do so as well
  12. It does seem the message is slowly getting through. This is the latest from the world of tv....."It's still debatable when speedway was established....." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUhy_LbjHQY
  13. I'd agree wholeheartedly with that. There have been a few here who seem to think Poland is the bees knees and speedway is great there and fairly crap in GB.'Bydgoszcz is a fantastic track that was only ever spoilt when Ole Olsen came to town.....'.But as we saw the other week the track was pretty poor without Ole.Last year they also fined one or two clubs for the state of their tracks,so it is not so clear cut as some try to make out. What they do have in Eastern Europe is good-super stadiums and very good crowds, which produce a great atmosphere. The problem in GB and western Europe in general is you have terrible stadia and generally poor crowds which then produces .next to no atmosphere. It doesn't help then when newcommers go to their first meeting to find dodgy toilet facilities and one man and a dog.....you go to a meeting in Poland and youcome away with a totally different feeling/impression of the sport. It is modern and exciting.I do think it helps having a stadium in town rather than out in the middle of nowhere, which iswhat you find in Germany,Denmark and Sweden as well as increasingly also GB
  14. Won't try and kid you that it is speedway at its best, but better than Zielona Góra or last weeks meeting from Gorzów imo.s Yesterday meeting(which was also live)from Daugavpils.Lokomotive v Start Gniezno http://www.grani.lv/daugavpils/24897-gonka-lokomotiv-start-gnezno-foto-video.html Some good speedway, sunshine and a packed stadium with the added extra of Miss Speedway on the parade
  15. Missed the first 8 heats or so,but imo it was just average speedway.Ok,the score was close, but as a neutral the score interests me less than the racing and that was nothing to shoutabout.Pretty spread out after the first lap,the same as an average meeting in the EL or Bundesliga or anywhere else. The Kolodziej v Jonsson battle was good. But that was only two laps and i always thought Kolodziej had the upper hand.Andreas had to block him or wait for amistake that never came.Good race though, but nothing out of the ordinary. In most meetings you expect 2 or 3 good heats. Some people obviouslyhave other opinions and other expectations, but as a neutral i just look for good racing
  16. Jack,we have been here before.I posted a link to one of,maybe the earliest reference to 'speedway racing'.Indianapolis 1909.Not specific to motorbikes, just a general term for the motorised racing at Indianapolis Speedway. So your reference to USA freeways is misleading and Melbourne is obviously quite afew years after, although at least shows that the term had travelled over to Oz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Indianapolis-motor-speedway_1909-0923.jpg
  17. Sure they need an airfence,Which makesme wonder didn't the FIM know they didn't have one?Seems unlikely.Or was an airfence promised by the promoters and then they couldn't deliver?
  18. Exactly.Just a glorified challenge really.Super line-up,but you know most aren't going to treat it like a league meeting,let alone a GP
  19. Harris goes from the front to the back so effortlessly, you'd think he is training for the Tour de France of some other cycle race.....
  20. Saw that the meeting has gone to Denmark(Randers?),but didn't know why.But i thought it was a rule for a few years now that FIM meetings must have an airfence?I can understand where you,or the riders are coming from.We had the issue last season where riders didn't want to go to Russia for the team meeting due to costs....Argentina as i/we mentioned last year is a big ask for most young riders.Especially those that are struggling without any chance of a medal. But will they really fine/ban anyone?have they before?Just look at Dosaev in Ice Racing. How many times has he been listed as a starter and never turned up?But still he gets accepeted for the season afterwards!!!!He must have some bloody good excuses
  21. Exactly. We have seen enough evidence to see that Hoskins didn't invent speedway, even if he might state so in his book.It might be that unlikely as it seems seeing as at least one of the riders at Maitland had ridden in similar events elsewhere,Hoskins didn't know about previous meetings at other tracks. That is being kind.Did he attach the 'speedway' name to the sport? That i guess is a possibility, but 'speedway racing' as a term was being used for motorsports held at American Speedways before Hoskins started in Maitland.Maybe he used it for this particular sport specifically, but it isn't a big deal if he just attached..a general name to a specific sport. And it didn't become the universally used name in the first years. That said,i don't see anyone who thinks Hoskins didn't play a major part in the rise of the sport internationally.Like others have said, the main problem comes from people trying to use spurious evidence or misinterpret statements to try to claim something that has been disproved. It is rather like listening to people trying to claim the earth is flat........
  22. No,this was much earlier.Looking at Morrish's book it states that in 1951 New Cross wanted to sign Nygren, but this was turned down.He ended up with Harringay.A few years later the fact that Nygren couldn't be signed led to Mockford pulling the shutters down. Also read that because of clubs closing the riders were allocated to other clubs. Most were ok with the moves, but Split Waterman refused to go to Belle Vue
