Just seen a photo of a bundle between riders and civilian(s)possibly a mechanic. Can recognize Malcolm Brown ad what looks like Alan Wilkinson who is being held back from attacking a Leicester rider in black + white helmet by the rider in white while to the side another rider is throwing a punch at someone. What is the story here and who are the riders involved?Must be i guess from around 1973/4.Looks like John Boulger in the background looking on

Yup.Cut me right down.......as it is i reckon there might be a thread on the subject for every minute of the film. And i think it states in the forum rules to do a search before starting a thread incase the subject has already been done to death a hundred times before (sarcastic smiley)

Really? That is amazing!!!Wonder if there are any other films or tv programmes featuring speedway?

This is speedway......the sponsors are likely to be along the lines of Joe Higgingbottom + son, electrician..... anyway this is Egon involved.....he told me two years back that he wanted Martin to use the bike in a meeting, but it was too powerful!!!! Two years on and he still has bikes that go like mopeds

Big changes happening in Flims,Switzerland starting this weekend. The club is in new hands after 15 years, including Swiss rider Dirk Fricke. They have a deal with a tv company and they hope the meeting will not only be shown on local, but national tv both this year and in the future. They also have plans to make the Golden Spike a multi nation series and also hope to open new tracks in Switzerland. http://www.motorsport-aktuell.com/motorrad/eisspeedway-grosse-plaene-fuer-schweizer-eisspeedway-6469019.html They have a pretty good line-up for both friday and saturdays meetings http://www.eisspeedwayflims.ch/

The Start Of The Decline
iris123 replied to THE DEAN MACHINE's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
But it wouldn't be wrong would it?Obviously if we want to be pedantic about this we just have to look at when speedway was at it height(post war period) and state the decline started just after. We know the sport went downhill after that into the period you mention when speedway was in 1965 re-organised and started to improve and then hit a peak again and then went into another decline, which we are currently not out of...... -

We'll all come with our deckchairs, blankets and flask of tea.Maybe a few will even have a bobble hat and a rattle to send you off right and proper lol -

DOn't know what you mean.Must be a northern thing? But for me this one little change sums it all up.It was for me the move from being a member of a speedway team,to being an individual racing for various clubs. The start of sponsors and looking after no.1.Now i don't see much team riding, much team feel.Riders just turn up at a track get their gear out ride and then shoot off to the next club.In Poland they do try to get a team feel, have get togethers and practice together. Most teams in Britain probably meet their team mates on p+p day for the first time and might not even know who else is in the team until then?Poland are even i think trying to bring in team rather than individual sponsors and think they are also considering a ban on baseball caps, although i don't think the re-introduction of wooly bobble hats is in the pipeline as no-one nowadays can knit.Lost art.......maybe "Gemini" is the last person in western Europe that remembers how to do it?Rather like the last native Cornish speaker, when she goes, then it will just be a memory in museums and on youtube -

For me it was the change from homemade bobble hats to baseball caps -
Don't you think in 20 years time people will wonder why the world champ and his team mate Darcy Ward didn't even make it into the top 4 if they look at the results?Strange comment!!!

Then no problem with talking about Liam Brady and his brothers.Anyway Dickie Guy is a Dons legend lol
-
yes i put my hand up.....it was me.Just making a sarcastic point if you like as this is a Wimbledon thread and we end up(BSF,do you expect anything else?)talking about a rider who never rode for the Dons, even if rider control sent him to Plough Lane.He didn't turn up,so talk about him on a West Ham thread. As Liam Brady like Christer did turn out for West Ham then there is a link lol Two of Liams brothers did turn out for a decent south London team though!!!!
-
He must have read that on Sportowefakty lol
-
I was at Highbury the day Liam Brady made his debut for Arsenal.Like Christer he never turned out for the Dons though

Sankt Johann have announced they will host a meeting on the 16th Feb.Open meeting, hopefully with a good international line-up and hopefully the weather is good.I can make this date i think !!!
-
Can't say i didn't warm you......but the ironic thing is,is the temps in south and east Germany are set to drop from wednesday onwards and snow is also predicted. It is i think totally wrong to give such an important meeting to a natural ice track. The thing is Inzell wanted to host a quali meeting and Bauer for one was slagging the FIM off for not giving them one.I still can't work out why if Inzell had the chance to host a meeting why they never kept plans to do so and they could have then stepped in to host this.It wouldn't have been a big deal for all the fans who have booked flights and hotels to go to Inzell instead So the official news is out. They say they need 5 or 6 nights with temps of -15.Mild weather and rain has ruined all the work they have put in so far http://www.speedway.org/pressemitteilungen/2013/st-johann.pdf

What Gp To See

Well might have to take back my words now.Just been having a look at the Buxtehude Rallycross site as IMG have just signed a 10 year marketing deal with the FIA.And what do i see on the site?Promise of bringing the European Rallycross Championship to a possible audience of over 300 million people on tv.There will not only be a sponsor for the Euro series, but also sponsors for each meeting!!!!IMG apparently made a big name for themselves with their promotional activity at the Olympic Games in London. But the last bit states that not only the track and the sport will gain from this deal, but also the town and region will....... http://www.estering.de/news.php?cat=13&t=1&nid=610 -
Pascal Swart - Available For Nl Team Place
iris123 replied to SarahLapworth's topic in National League Speedway
Sadly that tell us all we need to know about the current state of British speedway really.A rider who has done 10 years on a 500cc in Europe and hardly anyone has heard of will come over into the junior/development league on a 3 or 5 point average(if he passes the first glance test)with no real future ahead of him,and will not be putting any rider who is just starting, out of a place.Indicative of the real problem British speedway has at all levels from top to bottom.I have nothing against Pascal personally and don't really want to carry this on as it will look like i have.I have stated in the past and will again now for those who don't know my opinion, that i would have nothing against foreign riders(limited to 1 per team)of any sort in the NL as long as it will help the league/team.Say a decent young Dane or German who is just starting out and looks to have a good future and will bring people through the turnstiles. What i don't like is riders who are going nowhere and are cynically using the chance of a British passport to gain a place in the lower league.I would hope we have enough riders with little experience to fill up the places. -

Think Phil is talking about the town. The track i guess we will be told will be much improved next season.Even BSI/IMG can't do much about the surrounding area lol
