Oh yes.Can see it now....old boy comes in wanting a Shaker Cabinet and protesting at being led out the back into a video booth -
Yeah that Sky logo was just too lairy....shouting out of the screen throughout the meeting. The Eursport one is at the moment a decent change, although it could eventually get on my nerves as well.

I think the Eurosport logo in the corner was a big improvement on the Sky one.Who provided that needs a pat on the back.Great job all round imo

Great piece on Ice Speedway on the German equivalent of the Beeb(i guess) yesterday!!!!A quick history including a punch up at Inzell i think, but mostly focusing on Günther Bauer and then a piece from Uppsala including Bauer and Krasnikov relaxing in the sauna after the meeting.Very surprised to accidently see this yesterday.Just a pity as ever that the sport gets some great exposure, but the next meeting in germany will probably be next year,so a lot who might be interested will have forgotten by then!!!!! http://www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/beitrag/video/1867226/Ur-Bayer-mit-Benzin-im-Blut#/beitrag/video/1867226/Ur-Bayer-mit-Benzin-im-Blut

Shock, horror!!!! How did i predict that one? And of course one race does really prove the point..... Can't wait for Prague or that bit of cordoned of Italian motorway when Olly say's "Another fine mess....."No,i mean this is one of the best tracks i have ever seen, all the riders agree and just wait,if we get two decents races it will prove my point.......... -
National/premier League Riders Nationality.

A foreigner is seen as a bit exotic in some sense.A shame in some ways, but no getting away from the fact.I went with a lot of others once to see an Ipswich football match. Why?Because at the time i was caught up in the hype of the first Soviet football player in the football league.Sergei Baltacha. Now he wasn't one of the best ever footballers at that time or any other time, but it was something that caught the imagination of the media and the public because of that.He probably put 100s on the gate for that and maybe a few games after whereas if Ipswich had signed a British player of the same standard it would hardly have been noticed. -

In their defence it seems the problem/mistake came from the official source.A number of people/sites on facebook had the wrong result yesterday including one of the best Swedish speedway sites. When the mistake was pointed out they said it was a screenshot from the official source and they were standing by it......until they saw the original source had corrected the mistake -
How Do Foreign Riders Afford To Race?
iris123 replied to Soul Crew's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Yes but for some of the foreign guys it seems "lodgings" means a caravan by the track.Hardly the lifestyle any Brit is going to put up with as far as i know. And let's not forget it wouldn't just be British riders who go to Poland with no guarantee of anything more than one ride.In fact i remember talking to the father of one Danish star who was very upset that his son was only getting one ride in Poland in his early days -
Gp Rider Sponsorship
iris123 replied to Matt Davis's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Just a stab in the dark really, but would it be down to some new rule in Poland that riders are not allowed anything other than team sponsors displayed????Haven't followed it all that thoroughly, but thought there was some trouble about this and don't know just how many sets of kevlars these guys have -

Sometimes one wonders if it is thought of as a science at all,let alone an exact one.The discrepancies between gates are often so wide that one wonders if it is just an amateur bodge job!! Doubt anyone other than those statistic extremist fringe amonst us expect each gate to end up with the same(if that is possible) amount of wins, but surely a similar amount isn't asking for too much after all these years of track prep? -

So the water seeps down to the inside gates overnight, but if someone waters the outside gates hwo long does that water take to seep down? Are you suggesting it is within seconds?Surely it is artificially possible to water the other gates to be the same as the inside? And as for the other point, well surely at every track the race line takes the riders over the outside gates......... -

Sure Phil will tell us they are working on it and promise it will be better next time. But of course all the riders told him they thought the track was great Some of the quotes in the pits ...."awesome" ,"best track ever","Ole and the boys done a terrific job here"...... -
How Do Foreign Riders Afford To Race?
iris123 replied to Soul Crew's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
It is i think a lot to do with attitude.I know people here say that the foreign guys get a lot handed on a plate, but they do make big sacrifices or not only them but their families do.For instance i was talking to a few of the young Aussies fathers who came over to Denmark with their sons for the 80cc world championships.Just the few days/week had costed 1,000s of pounds. One of those youngsters is now in the GPs and one doing well in Road Racing. Also when one of the top young Danes moved up to 500cc he told me just how much he would be paying his parents back once the money started coming in. Somewhere along the line talented Brits like Bridger and Kennett seem to lose their way.Kennett i seem to remember did give up Britain for Sweden for a short period of time, but even then it seemed his head was all wrong -
Are you saying that in essence all you reported was what Reading fans already knew,as long as they were at the home meetings ?

Bundesliga site updated with all the latest.Still not full squads,as i expect Stephan Katt will be in the Brokstedt team at some point for example.Big news here is of course the new Berlin Falubaz Wolfslake team that is a partner team of Zielona Gora and will be using some of their riders. So expect some other names in there during the season as well.Causing a bit of a stir with the class of rider they can be expected to call on.The old Wolfslake management have moved over to Wittstock and started a team there http://www.speedevent.de/bundesliga/

How Many Heats In A League Meeting ?
iris123 replied to rusky's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Maybe you mean "the racing is as good as it ever was".That might be hard to disagree with. But to say "the sport is as good as it ever was" is a bit dodgy i would say.If you watched a good heat in a stadium with 5 or 10,000 others it is hard to say it is the same or even in your opinion worse than if you are among 300 or 1,000 people.I can go to an 80cc meeting in Denmark and see a great heat, but as there are only 100 people at most there it doesn't really have the same impact as watching a great heat at a packed Plough lane for the Internationale or an England v USA test match.I can't see how anyone can deny the sport has gone downhill from those days even if the racing has basically remained the same or similar -
Was never really a big fan of the mail, but i did like Big Arthur who sold it.Top guy!!

Guess he done a fair bit of work/travelling to promote his book.A real legend in the sport with a great work ethic. He done it the hard way by working his guts out to make it look easy.Wish him all the best and thanks for the memories and even the autographs.Yes he did give them if you asked at the right time

How Many Heats In A League Meeting ?
iris123 replied to rusky's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Thing is to my mind, the promoters want the meeting to in general go on as long as possible. There often seems to be unneccesary delays.Quite possibly i ask is this down to wanting punters to spend more at the track?Wonder if the delays happen more at tracks where the promoter gets the money from bar/restaurant?I do think especially at the beginning or end of the season when the weather is more often if not bad, blooming cold then a short sharp shock 13 heats is the best option.Like someone pointed out, back in the 70s/80s the stadiums used to empty out pretty quickly after the main meeting was finished.Often on a fairly long trip if there are one or two delays i am just looking at the watch and wanting to head off home.Once or twice in recent times i have even done something i would never have done in previous times and left before the meeting has finished -
