Value For Money Speedway Vs Grasstrack
iris123 replied to michaelcroucher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Surely it is just because you have overkilled speedway with your cyfra card.Watching every meeting you can amd then grasstrack just seems something different?Tbh grasstrack is just the same 10 or 20 riders all the time.No real variety, just a bit different once in a while. But no-one can really argue against your point.Value for money is an individual thing and if you want to see more grasstrack because the people are friendlier etc then so be it -
Swedish Individual Championship 2013
iris123 replied to Ghostwalker's topic in International World of Speedway
Yes i know that, but in speedway terms he is classed as Finnish. He rides with a Finnish flag on his jacket in the Longtrack and he rides for the Finnish team in the SWC.Not sure he has ever represented Sweden? Fairly sure when he won his first world title f-s-p mentioned it was the very first FIM gold medal that Finland had won.And i guess he will be top of the list for the Finnish GP wildcard next season.Doubt he would get a Swedish wildcard. But i did see a few days back a photo posted by tarabanko of a 17 year old Joonas riding -
Swedish Individual Championship 2013

Well this is the statement i found strange and no pussy-footing around, you just go for the jugular there!!!!And it seems only one of the top riders was missing.Maybe could have been worded better or maybe as you didn't know you could have been a bit careful in the statment.Anyway, done and dusted now No Olle was recruited to Vargarna by the legendary promoter Arne Bergström in 1948,so 1949 he was still a relative rookie having had his first ride in 1947.Olle was still a top rider in the 60s(there was a big fuss in the 50s as to who would sign him between a couple of the London teams and think it was one reason why Newcross closed as they were refused...maybe???)when i started going and still have an Olle Nygren,Wimbledon rosette in my collection.By the 70s he was well past his best but was one of the riders who didn't get banned when the Swedes were mostly banned,as Olle was based there and gave the British League priority. Anyway on the the present.Quite a weak group of riders imo.Sweden probably not been so weak for a while now with the top group on the way down and the youngsters not going that well.Said a couple of years back that Jonsson hadn't made it to where his potential should have taken him.Ghostwalker disagreed and pointed to his runner up spot at the time in the GPs.But always thought that seemed a fluke.Seems i am being proved right.Freddie and Antonio also never quite making the break through and of the good youngsters, well disappointed in Mellgren and Andersson from when i saw them in the YGT.Said at the time Dennis had tremendous speed, but was a bit wild.Always looked fast but seemed to fall quite a bit.Maybe we will see another repeat of a non Swedish rider winning the title?Joonas on a Swedish licence this year and i know my pal f-s-p was saying he might make it in the SWC squad, but Joonas told me he would be wearing the Finnish flag on his vest this season.Next weekend off to the YGT and maybe see a new Swede who will go on to better things? -

Swedish Individual Championship 2013

Yes a strange comment to say only the one weak looking name.A few there i would say.But what really surprises me looking at the list is that Varg-Olle only won the one title. -
Exactly. If things are so cheap in real terms why are so many Poles living elsewhere i ask myself.Never mind, lost count of how many times this comes up.Take something like the price of a ticket or a beer in isolation of the reality of living in a country is no argument
-
I know the history. You tell me why they let it go.I thought you was making the argument that it was a good thing that they kept the money from the world final. If it was such a good thing why let it go?Or was it taken from them? Think that is a woosh as i was being a little bit sarcastic.......
-
Me,i think it is like this....meeting on the 5th Cov v Poole as stated.Meeting on the 6th the European Challenge meeting that someone is worried riders will miss the meeting on the 5th for..... shoot me if i am wrong
-
Yes,going by figures for 2010 Lesznos crowd was half of the average back then and Bydgoszcz's crowd was 2,000 down,so 40% ish down on the 2010 average. Not good reading
-
However he means to share it out it wouldn't do much good.Look back to the great days of the 50s when it was held at Wembley every year.....hardly done the sport much good then even with big crowds as the sport was going into a slump
-
Trouble with this argument is,it was all ok when the world final was held every year at Wembley. Then there was money to share out.Once the final was shared around then it was only held once every 4 or 5 years in Gb and then no longer at Wembley. The money wasn't quite the same was it?And if the BSPA was still running the British GP then it might just possibly be held at Coventry or Poole and there wouldn't be much money to share out either. And of course you wouldn't expect the Poles to share their money with everyone,so it would be a British Gp run by the BSPA..........oh yeah, loadsa money to share out i don't think

Indeed and to add to that petrol is so cheap in Poland as well. How do they do it?

Saw the forecast and decided against travelling up.Once bitten, twice shy.As i made the trip up last year for the called off fiasco for the Danish Championship semi-final that eventually had to be moved to another track.Pity though that it buggered up Brokstedts team for yesterdays Bundesliga meeting.Kevin,Tobi and Timo were all up in Esbjerg kicking their heels whereas we had in the end a pretty good meeting, even though we knew from the off that Brokstedt had no chance.Friend of mine did go up on saturday and is a bit miffed that he is only being offered entry to a league meeting as compensation

Uk Court Case To Ban Streaming Sports
iris123 replied to uk_martin's topic in International World of Speedway
The whole thing relies on a company that will film the sport and that will compensate the clubs enough for a drop in attendance.I saw Holsted were partly blaming "live tv" for a loss of 500 on their gate last week.Weather was also blamed. But we have seen it in England as well.Ok the Elite league might get a decent bit of money, but i doubt very much that any danish club is compensated for a couple of hundred off their crowd.Could be the start of the end in Denmark unless a better solution is found, regardless of what happens to streamers. -
Channon's pronounciation of Gary Line-acre....I mean someone in the studio must have had a word and said "come on Mick all the folks at home, your co-commentators,Mrs Lineker,Jose Gonzalez the spanish tv commentator,Mario Baldinio the Italian tv commentator,Garys mum + dad and uncle tom cobbly and all say Lineker!!!Why do you insist on pronouncing it different to the rest of the world mate?"or something along those lines.Or did they not bother,i wonder?
-
To be fair, how often have we had two commentators sitting next to each other that have pronounced someones name in two different ways?I am thinking back to football and Mick Channon or Ron Atkinson, who often done it

Not sure i agree with this. When he burst onto the scene he was actually too young to take his place in the Euro U19 final i think. But anyway he was obviously a great talent and wasn't he better than Holder at that stage?Personally i thought when all the talk of him being on a dodgy bike was doing the rounds he looked like he was going to make it.Then he dropped off and Holder overtook him.My take on things anyway -

Who Is The Oldest Rider Still Racing In The Uk
iris123 replied to alarmo's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Not sure on the ages, but must be getting on a bit.Kevin Teager for instance rode for Ipswich,Scunthorpe etc back in the 80s,is still racing grasstrack.Think a few of the old guys still do.That would qualify for me more than an old guy who never really rode at any decent level. No disrespect meant to anyone though -
