  1. Speedway at the Olympics? That is a joke!!!! I remember Speedway at the World games and what a balls up that was.Couldn't even organise a pairs meeting without mixing the pairs from two different countries ffs!!!!
  2. Oh yes,i am sure Phil will get to the bottom of this and all will be revealed in the in depth item on the subject with a few statements from those in the know as usual
  3. As far as i know Maaßen is under the wing of Robert Lambert and his family through their friendship formed in Germany, but all the better if Kessler is helping out as well
  4. As far as i can see the thread has not strayed from the topic in question, but it is quite ironic that gustix comes in with the statement seeing as he seems to think every thread requires mention of watching speedway in the 1940s!!!!
  5. Seems the German Federation are absolutely furious that they were not contacted about Dilger or Kroner taking their rightful place in the line up ahead of Harris. They have accused Castagna of being out of his depth in the job.... http://www.speedweek...hwerde-ein.html
  6. Like i said it is up to the individual to decide whether they can support such a track.Just as some people do go and support unlicenced boxing or other sports that don't meet the safety standards of the governing body.Obviously in some cases the extra danger adds something. What i will say is if there really is a question mark about air fences why is it only a couple of fringe tracks in Sweden and a few of the lesser tracks in GB that are going their own way?Why didn't any of the well run/supported tracks in Europe also take a stand?
  7. What i was saying(i thought quite clearly) is it would be unjustifiable to support tracks who didn't keep up to the required safety standards. There will always be accidents of course even at tracks that have the best safety standards. But to support tracks that give less than the required standard is unacceptable in my eyes. There are numerous reasons i would support pirate tracks for breaking away from the main body, but because they can't keep up with safety is one i certainly wouldn't support. Each to their own and it is obviously an issue that won't bother some
  8. Think you might have hit a nail on the head of why the sport is in such bad shape. The fact that fans on here have their opinions looked down upon by the "so many" you refer to.The "if you don't like it,don't come" attitude.Well guess what, people ain't coming
  9. It all matters not one iota. The ruling body has ruled that airfences must be used and they won't be backing down.So.......any track that can't afford one now will do what?Join some breakaway little group that will get the riders with little ambition with probably n foreign riders or riders going nowhere. So what do you end up with?A small group or tracks and probably a very small group of riders.Could be the ideal thing for the guys who wanted their own little GP sort of series. So tracks get a few meetings a year and can't attract many riders and won't attract many fans and will never be able to afford an airfence as they will have closed before that ever comes about. It isn't like a bit of a disagreement about some rules that can be discussed and a mutual conclusion made and everything is fine again.Personally i could never support such a track as if a bad accident occured every person who gave support to that track is supporting substandard safety measures and is partly to blame.Without fans and sponsors(if sponsors could even think of touching such a hot tomato)riders wouldn't be out on tracks that don't have the required safety standards TBH the simple way is to do what they have done in germany and share an airfence between a few tracks who couldn't afford one themselves.Anything else is really just sticking two fingers up at safety
  10. Think the thing to remember here is that the previous breakaway had nothing to do with safety regs.To consider bearking away and to consider supporting such a break away because they can't afford to keep up with the safety standards required is getting into unacceptable territory. In all sport and all industry standards have to be met or you go to the wall.Like someone else said,i think the FIM have given notice of standards required
  11. My friend from Hamburg pulling no punches on the German commentators. First the audience was told Laguta was a Latvian that changed his nationality to Russian for better opportunities.Kjastas' nationality changed from Russian to Ukrainian and then lastly Latvian during the meeting!!!Guess we can forgive them for only mentioning Danil was "one of the best ice speedway riders",but what about telling the audience that the ice speedway bikes had spikes 10cm long!!!!!!Ouch http://www.motorsport-aktuell.com/motorrad/speedway-auf-eurosport-alles-mueller-oder-was-7564072.html
  12. Shouldn't be forgotten that the stadium lies i guess directly on the old Surrey Iron railway which started in 1803.The old path across the road from the entrance and next to the pub follows the line of the railway,so it must have come out and cut through the land.Even at that time the river wandle was heavily industialised hence the formation of the railway to move the goods about.Youngs or i think it was at the time ram brewery was one of the funders. The Wandle also flooded about 1967(i remember having to climb out of my dads car by the window as the car got stuck and people were boating around Summerstown)so if the route was ever altered it was after 1965 and although i doubt it was, then like Humphrey states it would have been to much hassle to alter the border..Also in one speedway book(might be Norbolds)it mentions the land was very marshy and caused some trouble building the stadium Also remember watching Kingstonians in the old stadium when Mickey Droy of Chelsea fame was in charge. Not sure how green + white comes into the equation unless the place they moved into was green + white at the time?
  13. Not in Togliatti. The place where the club president was bumped off in the street i think, around the time this stadium was built .Not likely to get corruption there if that happens
  14. Well i did ask Joonas at Brokstedt(398m,i think) earlier this season about the track and which bike would be faster. He said the speedway bike
  15. If he is talking about the final then only one Laguta brother was in that race
  16. Might have been a small district but Merton was known around the country and probably the world for a number of important things.Merton Abbey, where Thomas Beckett and the only english Pope studied and one king was crowned,Merton was for a time home to one of the national heroes,Nelson and Merton film studios made such notable films as the Mukkinese battle horn with Peter Sellers and Leather Boys with Rita Tushingham, the Scotland Yard series as well as Edgar Wallace,It!,The Brain Machine,The little red monkey,Invasion and the not to be forgotten,Konga!!!! I think just by being one of the few places where a king of England was crowned(aren't Kingston-upon-Thames and Westeminster the only other places?)is reason enough, without all the other things.Anyway, enough of this. What are the chances of speedway being included in a new stadium? What really are the chances of dogs and speedway beating football?
  17. Are you saying they are the Mega lada start girls?Only it has been said that it will be the same 4 girls who won a competition to do the whole series.Heard it was the same girls from the first meeting and have also seen a comment from someone in Sweden that one is Swedish, which would mean they ain't the track girls
  18. Should have said allegiance rather than alliance. But seem to remember there was a bit of controversy when Laguta was nominated for the Latvian WC.The MFR were up in arms that one of "their" riders was given it. At the moment there is a young lady competing or about to compete in the Athletics world championship. Her mother is from Moscow and her father from Belorussia, her and her sister were born in Riga and she will be representing Germany
  19. Thought Laguta was in dispute with the MFR and then seemed to change alliance to latvia. The talk at the time was he tried to change nationality but couldn't pass the language test
  20. Yeah World + European should be dumped and we get your suggestions insted. Not confusing????How do you cope with all those football competitions i wonder? How do football fans cope as they aren't as clever as speedway fans we are often told.My god
  21. All been discussed on the Swedish Individual championship thread, mate
  22. All well and good, until we remember you having a few aliases at the same time and chatting to "yourself" on this forum. Now who plays "silly games" i wonder?
  23. It's not looking great.Glenn Moi looked quite promising on 80cc,but struggled a bit in the Danish 1st division this season and i think has dropped down to the 2nd division.I did see the 80cc YGT final and the best non Danish rider was a norwegian guy who looked pretty good and i see he finished 7th in the 80cc Nordic Final a few days ago as well. But Norway would really struggle to put together a team that could compete with the lesser nations at the moment imo
  24. I do agree with Krompa.Just how many great U21 riders have Poland had over the last decade or so and they go somehow astray when they move out of that age group.Look at Szombierski or at the moment with the SWC who remembers Marcin rempalas performance for Poland that should have been the start of a great career?Okoniewski was another super junior.Chrzanowski also got into the GPs quite early and done nothing
  25. Think Phil has already stated that Emil has a real injury, just it isn't bad enough to keep him out of a meeting he really wants to ride in.Maybe like the injuries that kept most of the Polish guys out of the trip to Argentina.....supposedly
