  1. Wonder if Bryn's titanium ball is FIM approved?
  2. That's good to hear.Sure for the trip closer to home Bryn would like to post a request on here for a lift?
  3. To be fair i do remember a comment from the DMU once after Nicki won a title. They announced that the Danish League didn't benefit from him being world champ.Tbh the state of speedway in Britain at the moment it would be hard to see it not gaining from a world champ. But we are talking about the leagues and well......nuff said really
  4. Ah....all that hard work gone to waste now.And i heard there was a clip of Torvill and Dean on an 80s revival programme yesterday as well.........what chance does speedway have now?
  5. Sweden is expensive shock!!!! Next you'll be telling me it is very hot in Kuwait
  6. P taking lot. This and trending on twitter is just what speedway needs.Next year looks much better for the sport already. After this they'll just have to open the gates and watch the punters flood in
  7. Quite possibly spot on with all that.Like i said it has nothing to do with whether he represents GB or Australia,so far i have other riders i prefer I do remember it was i think Millwalls first game at Highbury for decades and it was the game where the press were stating Millwall were planning to pinch the clock at the clock end....Lennox Lewis was said to be a Millwall fan and out of the boxes overhead he appeared. The Millwall fans all started singing "Bruno,Bruno..."
  8. Well ok with Mark he wasn't really going to have a chance of competing for malta + as far as i know had no tattoo.Crump as well didn't really go out of his way to support GB or have any british tattoo.Tai on the other hand........i wonder if he thought he could get where he is now by choosing Australia would he have done so or was GB an easy route/flag of convenience? That is not really important.haven't taken to him just like i didn't take to Havelock or Carter.Peter Collins on the other hand despite being a Belle Vue rider was a real favourite of mine
  9. I'd agree.Don't see the comparison with Crump or Loram. You knew where their allegiance was.You ain't really sure with Tai.Haven't taken to him myself and would have preferred Emil to have been champ.
  10. I'm waiting for the big hype now that IMG have taken over the Rallycross European Championships.Actually there was a piece in the papers today. It said something like "The European Rallycross Championships will be held at Buxtehude Estoring next weekend".That was it.Got even less space than the Buxtehude Handball team
  11. The one that springs to mind is the tiny polish guy who got into the gp's just a couple of years before he retired.Only about 5 years ago. Can't for the life of me think of his name though Jagus If you look at Mauger as an example then hans Nielsen couldn't have been much younger when he won his first title.Seemed to explode on the scene as a teenager, but took ages for that first world crown
  12. You are never going to make speedway or any motorsport fully safe.Bikes go flying through the air and sometimes over the fence. We have had two incidents of bikes going over and into the crowd. All a bit lucky as even now floodlight pylons are built right near the track.Plough lane was a pretty safe track as not only did it have a super wire fence and a stock car track outside the speedway one,but the lights were overhead on wire.I even saw an ice speedway bike go over the fence a few years back and it was pure luck that it was on the bend where no spectators are allowed.I also witnessed a rider who stopped almost dead down the home straight and a following rider went straight into him and flew through the air.No fence is going to help these situations. It does seem though that air fences in most situations are better than none.In a few situations they might not be.
  13. This steak house has a good reputation. Not sure what f-s-p would say about it? http://steakstation.cz/cs/
  14. Surely the fact that we often hear riders take more chances as they think airfences are safer is proof enough.Unless people are just saying this and riders don't take more chances as they don't think airfences are safer.Sure i read somewhere that at least Tony Briggs tested his fences personally by riding into them I know when asked about a rider for the PL he told me he wouldn't ride on tracks without an airfence.
  15. Cool.Thought you said someone tried to walk over the banner and you persuaded him it wasn't a good idea lol Sounds cheap what with the price of beer and trainers and the chance to see that lovely red-haired woman at the hotel
  16. If you have clowns in charge, don't be surprised when people laugh at the sport
  17. You might be right. But imo a promoter should be trying to attract more fans than they already have.I don't know of any promotion that has enough fans attending regularly.A fixture filler is always a problem.I remember Wembley and West Ham selects being put on as challenges.Would have thought the idea was to try and attract Dons fans along.Otherwise why not just put up a select side and call it Crayford or Canterbury and get some publicity in those areas and they may also become regular attenders?I'm not a lover of challenges or made up teams anyway.
  18. Surely it is only right that former fans will have an opinion on a team using the Wimbledon name?Certainly feel that in the treatment of a former rider the promoters have shot themselves in the foot a bit.The idea of having a team called Wimbledon is to attract fans of the team.I personally have no problem with a son of a track raker and a grandson of a former rider.Good idea imo.Would have liked one or two riders that maybe rode as juniors there. But obviously in my situation i won't be coming over from Germany to see an odd assortment of riders riding under the Dons flag.Pity though that it seems some fans who might have attended have been allienated
  19. Not sure you can invite a team that doesn't exist any more?It is difficult now after all this time to find enough riders with some connection to the Dons. One or two that acctually rode at Plough Lane?Robert Lambert for instance
  20. Think it was quite clear that the Germans were upset with the FIM for apparently not following procedures. That is why they named two people in the FIM who are not doing their job competently. One they say doesn't even appear to know the rules he is supposed to be applying. No reason why they would have a beef with the ACU,BSPA or even Harrs, who only done what was asked of them. The fact is the people running the sport seem to be incompetent
  21. Speedway at the Olympics? That is a joke!!!! I remember Speedway at the World games and what a balls up that was.Couldn't even organise a pairs meeting without mixing the pairs from two different countries ffs!!!!
  22. Oh yes,i am sure Phil will get to the bottom of this and all will be revealed in the in depth item on the subject with a few statements from those in the know as usual
  23. As far as i know Maaßen is under the wing of Robert Lambert and his family through their friendship formed in Germany, but all the better if Kessler is helping out as well
  24. As far as i can see the thread has not strayed from the topic in question, but it is quite ironic that gustix comes in with the statement seeing as he seems to think every thread requires mention of watching speedway in the 1940s!!!!
