  1. Or a Dutch GP.They do have some speedway rider, starting a league again and have hosted a world final,so some previous. Is it worth a topic?
  2. After these 103 races, who won?Or did the curfew come into play before a winner could be found?
  3. Where do i mention regular? I think hosting a GP is at least in my definition, speedway taking off.Not trying to do anything apart from remind you of all those negative posts about spanish speedway Or do you deny numerous negative posts about speedway in Spain?
  4. Not sure what they have to think about.....with something like this i doubt tracks are queing up to hold the meeting.Scandinavian countries aren't generally that interested in hosting FIM or FIM Europe meetings.Berlin have gone the way of a number of dirt track promoters. They can put on a meeting that will attract x amount of fans almost regardless of who is in the line-up and what the title is.So they think why should i host an FIM meeting and have to jump through hoops and pay for the privilege when i can hold my own meeting and be my own boss...... As it is the season is turning into a bit of a desaster after it has been announced St.Johann has been cancelled and the FIM don't have a back up plan......well they do.It is seeding the riders into the GPs rather than having any qualifier(s).....
  5. Find it quite funny that the last time a project to get speedway established in Spain,Gustix or Speedyguy as he was known then couldn't tell us enough about how speedway was tried and failed from the 30s onwards and how it would fail again......Now he is asking if speedway could take off in Spain!!!
  6. Exactly my point.....only weirdo's know such things
  7. That's about it....although no-one is forced to look at a thread about a piffling subject ;-) There are enough proper threads like "Who was the best rider of 2013" or we can always revisit some of the old classics like "have you ever met a rider in a supermarket?"
  8. That is the whole point.....look at other sports.Do any of them play or ride for 3 or 4 different teams?Dalglish had no.7 on his back week in week out.Darcy Ward might have no.1 on his back week in week out for Poole and then have no.354 for the GPs.Now personally if i was a Poole fan i would want Darcy Ward/Poole merchandise rather than just Darcy Ward #354 and the same i would imagine goes for Swedish and Polish fans with their teams.Speedway is a team sport and you tend to see team merchandise.Having said that, you can buy Nicki Pedersen or NKI merchandise and people have done for years without having some number on a cap or t-shirt..... Like you say, look at other sports. It might work for F1,although i just know Schumacher or Vettel and have no idea which number they have on their cars. But speedway isn't "other sports" and doesn't operate like "other sports" and seems to get itself tied in knots trying to be "other sports"....speedway champions league a good example All this talk brings to mind another famous #7.....Patrick McGoohan
  9. For sure, one would normally assume that there was something that indicated the article was about Wimbledon Stadium.Typical nit-picking..... Quite ironic given a previous Wimbledon speedway promoters links to speedway in Dublin that now we have letters to the Irish government being sent to ask them to step in and save the Greyhound(and maybe speedway)stadium plans!!!Doesn't look good though
  10. Let's hope no speedway rider chooses #5 or any other famous number or the occasional viewer might wonder why Vettel is riding speedway. Will all get very confusing if a number synonymous with some Road Racer or MotoX rider is used by a speedway rider Honestly, this just seems to be typical speedway changing things rather than speedway progressing Can't see it making one iota of difference to the entertainment and doubt it will bring one fan into the sport......Nice work guys
  11. On that i'd agree. It does seem a bit strange to have a meeting held in an english speaking country and reported on an english speaking forum have the results posted in polish!!! A bit weird, but not a crime
  12. Yes,big step forward.Hope the next thing on the riders list of things to do is improve the racing/track prep
  13. Bad news, especially after a lot of moans that the world champ quali rounds were slimmed down and riders don't get enough meetings......
  14. Livestream link for this weekends Russian Final meetings in Ufa http://www.tugantel.tv/speedway/ Nice breakfast + racing morning as the meeting is due to start at 8:00
  15. Thought some years back we were being told there would be a mini tour outside of Europe with Gps in one or two Asian countries as well as Aus/NZ + USA?This was at the time when Malaysia was going to be the next big thing in the sport and it was likely to spread to other neighbouring countries as well.......Never mind.Like Humphrey say's,if they can host a GP in that Riga(mortis) stadium then Argentina still has a chance
  16. ^ The one where most people are thinking "Oh no,he didn't post that did he?"........so,take your pick really lol
  17. If you are quick you can still delete that post before he comes back ^^^^^^
  18. What about Jack Young or Ronnie Moore as candidates? How many years of profi speedway had they done beofre winning a world title?I'd guess most of the others mentioned had done a fair few, although i am not sure about Freddie Williams
  19. Wimbledon,Hackney,Oxford + Reading.Didn't really visit all the other closed tracks that i have been to enough to call them favourites,or tracks like White City that i did visit quite often wasn't really a favourite.Just easy to get to
  20. Changed the whole way i look at the sport really, has the forum. Before it was all so simple.4 guys going hell for leather round a dirt track.I never gave it much thought if they were doing it for my entertainment or for the dosh.I never used to know about slick or grippy tracks. They were either dry or wet.I never payed much attention to who could fit into the team over the winter period.I just used to turn up at the first meeting of the season and everything was sorted.I looked in the programme and there was the team and the opponents and the rules.Job done.I didn't even know that some not very nice people went to watch speedway either.Everyone i came into contact with at speedway was friendly........
  21. How dare you go off topic!!!!!! Grrrrrr.Mods!,Mods!!!
  22. What about the alternative world championships held in France?
  23. I was very surprised that the meeting went ahead earlier in Weissenbach.Temp all around Germany,Switzerland and Austria are pretty mild for this time of year. They are going up to around 14 degrees in parts of Germany in the next few days.Looking at Jespers pix there is little snow on the mountains around the track!!!! So they done a brilliant job to get 30cm of ice down.Meetings in Poland,Sweden and Czech look to have been postponed until later. Walking around at the weekend it seems like spring here. The Japanese cherry trees are in blossom and flowers are blooming!!!! At least Finland beat Sweden in the Ice Hockey final lol
  24. If i remember correctly wasn't some of the cooling pipes too close to the surface the first year and there was a danger that the spikes would come into contact and ruin it?
  25. There is an under track cooling system.Think if i remember rightly the first year they had problems, but since then it has worked fine
