Was Tai The Quickest World Champion?
iris123 replied to phillipsr's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
What about Jack Young or Ronnie Moore as candidates? How many years of profi speedway had they done beofre winning a world title?I'd guess most of the others mentioned had done a fair few, although i am not sure about Freddie Williams -
Wimbledon,Hackney,Oxford + Reading.Didn't really visit all the other closed tracks that i have been to enough to call them favourites,or tracks like White City that i did visit quite often wasn't really a favourite.Just easy to get to

The History And Status Within The Sport Of The Bsf
iris123 replied to manchesterpaul's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Changed the whole way i look at the sport really, has the forum. Before it was all so simple.4 guys going hell for leather round a dirt track.I never gave it much thought if they were doing it for my entertainment or for the dosh.I never used to know about slick or grippy tracks. They were either dry or wet.I never payed much attention to who could fit into the team over the winter period.I just used to turn up at the first meeting of the season and everything was sorted.I looked in the programme and there was the team and the opponents and the rules.Job done.I didn't even know that some not very nice people went to watch speedway either.Everyone i came into contact with at speedway was friendly........ -
How dare you go off topic!!!!!! Grrrrrr.Mods!,Mods!!!

What about the alternative world championships held in France? -
I was very surprised that the meeting went ahead earlier in Weissenbach.Temp all around Germany,Switzerland and Austria are pretty mild for this time of year. They are going up to around 14 degrees in parts of Germany in the next few days.Looking at Jespers pix there is little snow on the mountains around the track!!!! So they done a brilliant job to get 30cm of ice down.Meetings in Poland,Sweden and Czech look to have been postponed until later. Walking around at the weekend it seems like spring here. The Japanese cherry trees are in blossom and flowers are blooming!!!! At least Finland beat Sweden in the Ice Hockey final lol

If i remember correctly wasn't some of the cooling pipes too close to the surface the first year and there was a danger that the spikes would come into contact and ruin it?
-
There is an under track cooling system.Think if i remember rightly the first year they had problems, but since then it has worked fine
-
My guess is,if a word can be used it is ok.If you write a word and it is changed then there is an automatic censor. To me the word used is fairly mild and i can understand why it is sometimes used....... All an aside to the main issue. And another hope of mine is that maybe one or two of the youngsters can achieve some success in the world U21s etc.Would be a great boost to follow on from Tai's world title

Hmmmmm.......

That is what you said.Of course someone is always going to read it wrong. But i agree,it is almost right.Scrap the joker and please don't have weak host nations seeded into the final and it would be "rite"
-
I have a number of wishes apart from the obvious, that no rider has a bad accident 1.A major wish that springs to mind is that i hope the scheme to get young British riders into the EL pays dividends and the majority can make a success of it and don't end up out of their depth or out of pocket. 2.Hope that whatever rules are agreed to are stuck to 3.Hope the weather doesn't play havoc with the fixtures 4.On a local note,i hope the risk Güstrow have taken in hosting a round of the SEC pays off for them and the stadium is packed(not too many fans stay at home and watch on tv) and the track produces its usual standard of racing, then all tv viewers should see a super meeting
-
Guess a lot is down to the advanced technology. You could have someone knocking out the old bikes for a cheap price, but who is going to buy a brand new "old" JAP as they would finish last in every heat!!!And you would still need a new silencer which would double the price as those cheap old silencers wouldn't be allowed nowadays

What i read they didn't drink the vodka, they poured it onto the sauna and breathe in the vapours. Not a sauna expert, but in the news they said this was how some people get their kicks........????Turned out tragic in this case -
For sure it is clear to see that speedway has simply lost it's position of importance in society for a number of reasons.Stadia being one.But imo it was back in the heyday of speedway that the seeds were sown.At that time pretty well no promoter of the sport went out and bought or built a stadium. They were happy to rent from another sport. You take a fairly small football club like Dulwich Hamlet who couldn't have attracted anything near the attendances of the local speedway clubs. But they had a stadium that was decent for the time and when it became delapidated they had something to bargain with, sell off and get a modern, smaller stadium built. If speedway promoters had have had the forethought to do the same i think the sport could be in a better situation now.Ok,a fair number might have just sold the stadium and kept the money......basically as a tenant you don't get the best conditions.Pick of which day you run,all the takings from food and drink etc.If they had have had the forethought back when crowds were on a par with football things might look a little bit better now It was also about the time of the 60,000 crowds that Sweden started their own speedway league and it was really the head in the sand approach from Britain in the decades that followed that(not only the threat from Sweden, but the FIM and then Poland and the other emerging countries) has produced another big headache for the sport now
-
Practically none of the circumstances that allowed speedway to attract, let's not even say 60,000,but 20,000 don't exist any more.No big inner city stadiums are wanting to stage speedway unless someone offers them big money.Even then the stadiums just don't exist like they did in the good old days. The top riders were banging on the door wanting to ride over in Britain. Not many do now.The British league existed without competition until we had the Swedish problem in the 70s and the competition has grown in strength since then and not just from other speedway countries......if you want to scrutinise the problems speedway find itself in at this moment in time quite a lot stem from what the promoters did back then
-
Think we have learnt not to take Parsloes word as gospel, but with a pinch of salt.Bit strange for a prgramme editior to get it wrong all the time.Wonder what his notes read like in the programme? lol
-
In a way it seems IoW is more suited to a continental style approach of running a number of meetings in the summer months rather than a British league system.I would say the BSPA should be more flexible in their ideas, but it seems they have a one system fits all,or nothing approach.
-
The important + possibly strange thing in all this is Mr Cearns himself. Why did he seemingly hand the reigns to Silver?Originally he must have thought a modern approach was the way to go,but something seems to have persuaded him to go with the tried and trusted old ways.Normally the reaction to a crisis or ill health etc
-
All makes for interesting reading. At least to an outsider.Seems there are a lot of upset people, full stop!!!Stuff about the programme awards and the track announcer, and i only read back to the beginning of the month.Looks like i missed lot more good stuff throughout the year lol I'd say it must be hoped that Kent sometime soon stands on it's own feet. The important thing at the moment must be stability and stopping the boat rocking too much
-
No doubt he was a great, great rider. That doesn't automatically mean he would be a great promoter or administrator and know what is best for the sport nowadays.Like most of us though i am sure he just wants the best for speedway and for it to be the success it used to be in his heyday. I just hope speedway and PC's(at least the last i heard he wasn't in the best of health...) health improves next year.

2014 European Speedway Championships
iris123 replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
Great news, although it has been fairly well known for a while now.Just needing the confirmation.Hope it will make great viewing at home as it is one of my favourite tracks.Just a pity really that there isn't a local rider who could get in and spoil things.Of the riders associated with Güstrow i.e Wölbert + Hefenbrock,i can't unfortunately see them getting double figures.Hope i am wrong.Looking forward to it and hope a lot of fans make the effort to be in the stadium -
Yes.A photographer friend of mine from Bydgoszcz/ Hamburg also had problems with the police because of his cameras. So good luck conkers Behind the scenes work on getting a livestream for this weekends meetings at Ufa.Not sure about any of the other meetings
