Despite a couple of previous posts,i want to state categorically that i am not anti-pool

I am not convinced just because something is on tv.Most of the time they just seem to be fillers not really on at prime time.Wouldn't be surprised if over the year speedway has more people watching it on tv and certainly more people attending professional meetings in GB and even Sweden(although that is a big guess). The results etc hardly ever make it into the newspapers or not that i have noticed and i reckon you have as much chance on the streets to find someone who knows a reigning European swimming champ as you would have of finding someone who knows the reigning European speedway champ and that goes for athletics as well
-
Not really. One reason and one reason only why swimmers and other sportmen and women are household names and that is because their relatively poorly attended sports are part of the Olympics. These sports disappear from view for 3.5 years and most people would have no idea who the new stars are until the Olympics start again
-
Not sure that is the case.I guess people just can't see it being a success. In reality i think everyone must have their fingers crossed, because if this doesn't succeed it is Goodnight Vienna for British speedway.I do think speedway missed a chance when the Speedway Star was asking British speedway to get behind Plough Lane.I hope this time British speedway gets behind this project otherwise it will increasingly become a backwater on the European scene

World Longtrack Gp
iris123 replied to stevec's topic in Grasstrack, Sidecar, Short Track and Cycle Speedway
Indeed. If you look at it then the past few titles were won by "part-timers",rather than those who concentrate on LT.You'd probably also have had Smolinski battling for the title if he wasn't in the speedway GPs this year -
Certainly think you are right with the fatalities, never heard about the Wall of Death development though.Seem to recall seeing some great film footage on the net of Board track racing taken by a Harley rep from Czecho on a visit to the US.Also think i am right that one of the tracks was near the Indian factory in Springfield.....

Probably more posts in 5 minutes on here than there are on his forums in a day.In fact there were probably as many posts on his forums as there were here the other day when this place was busticated Yet he still takes time out of his busy day running all those forums to come and have a pop at this place A clear case of someone who needs this forum more than this forum needs him

iris123 replied to stevec's topic in Grasstrack, Sidecar, Short Track and Cycle Speedway
Yup,i know and i have also heard of him,but maybe some on the LT scene are more insular than i thought and maybe it is within these circles that he is "unknown" -
Sgp Challenge Final Sat 20th Sept

More complaints from Germany that the FIM don't know(maybe just don't follow)their own rules.Smolinski asked the DMSB and then the FIM why Harris was nominated instead of himself which he thinks should have been the case.He got no answer and in the end he was injured so wouldn't have been able to ride. But it does seem according to the headline that the FIM are repeat offenders after last year The article is on speedweeks website. If there is any truth in the story no doubt it would also have been in the SS -

Some sour grapes from the dethroned world champ to do with the watering of the start gates and some criticism of the "unknown" british ref.But this was a series and not won in one meeting and i can also relate to trying to give a home rider some advantage. Congrats to the youngster -
Not really in the same league though, are ya?

It is a sport that is financed by the paying public, not the bloody Mafia!!!! -
I think it quite important and just wanted to, in a friendly manner point it out.I would have deleted my comment when the error was corrected, but as you make a point of it then i will leave it there. So in answer.....yes

Can understand councillors looking after their constituents, but surely that includes any local business that might benefit from say 3-500 people from outside the area spending money not only at the track but at petrol stations, cafes, fast food restaurants etc Noise is becoming ever more important as has been linked to stress and other health problems and should be taken seriously

Sad to hear this.I know a friend of mine from Bydgoszcz holds Henryk in very high esteem.I only saw him once or twice. The '75 Final at Wembley for instance. RIP Would also be nice if the initiator of this thread could use the facility to correct his name. Not wanting to have a go,but it doesn't seem right on an important thread like this to spell someones name wrong, even though i am sure it was a mistake

Think we have seen this in the past.It was only a couple of people who complained about Mildenhall and one track in Germany has had continual problems because of one woman, who strangely enough used to be a speedway fan!!!

Did seem to hit a ceiling and never made it much further and was taken over by other young Danes imo

2014 European Speedway Championships

Strange on a highlights programme to show ht3 which was a from the tapes follow the leader heat if this was such a good meeting.Hey-ho -
Ironically a Stevie Wonder song could be the theme tune not only for Bomber, but for a lot of riders Wish I could tell you, What I am feeling, But, words won't come for me to speak But I'll blame it on the sun, That didn't fill the sky, I'll blame it on the birds and the trees I'll blame it on the day that ended once too soon, I'll blame it on the nights that could not be, But, my heart blames it on me

Best Speedway Track In The World?
iris123 replied to Stoke Potter's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I'd say from my experience...Güstrow in Germany -
Would probably have been for the best if Grig had carried his wish to become a Latvian citizen through, although that obviously as far as i know got dropped because of his inability to get to grips with the language. And nobody knows more than me how difficult learning a foreign language can be

Might try looking at the thread on the subject in the International section which might answer all your questions and more

Exactly.Think OveF.... has missed the point. This isn't about choosing a wildcard this is about choosing a substitute from all the worlds best riders that aren't currently in the GPs surely? Then you end up with a someone like Nilsson instead of Kildemand.Different class and robs the paying public and tv viewers imo.No-one argues that a local wildcard might be a bit of a duffer, but substitutes shouldn't be in that category if there is already a local wildcard selected. My opinion
