2015 Ice Speedway Gladiators
iris123 replied to customhouseregular's topic in International World of Speedway
Sounds easy.Obviously isn't.Trouble is,most indoor tracks are used for speed skating(even Berlin which is outdoors)and we are in the speed skating season........generally the tracks are only given over to Ice Speedway after their season has finished at each track, which is why the ice season in Western Europe only really starts at the end of february and finishes a few weeks later.A few years ago when i was in Dresden(which is also an artificial outdoor track) the temps were over 20°+!!!! -
My position is.....once he has completed his suspension/ban and he has learnt his lesson ,then yes,i would like to see him back.If however he hasn't learnt anything then i wouldn't really be bothered if he comes back or not
-
I only went to the 1975 + 1985 finals
-
Very sad news.Bought loads of stuff from Eddie, not only the Star.Like you say a lovely guy.He also used to do eastbourne as well i think, but was part of the furniture at Plough Lane
-
Come on Phil, the tone of many of your posts is one of he he the FIM look like they have ballsed this one up and darcy will be taking them to the cleaners......maybe.Surely if this is the case heads must roll and not put all the blame on some off duty Latvian policeman which is the usual BSI line on blaming the locals!!!!! Castagna as the boss and as you say Teromaa was the chief on the spot, seem to be the obvious candidates
-
Let me down gently,if you have to let me down at all!!!! How did i know that would be your answer Quite possible in the Longtrack final(6 riders in a heat,i think) i mentioned earlier that 4,5 or even 6 world champs raced against each other in a heat.Don't have the details to check though
-
Now you are being silly.Of course it has a lot to do with Castagna. He is the top man(won't even ask why he wasn't there being one of the top speedway meetings of the season at a new venue etc)and the buck stops with him after a series of faux pas' during his reign. And if the case isn't water tight he should have made sure it was dropped before it got taken out of the CCP's hands.
-
If this case isn't water tight then i think this time Castagna must fall on his sword and walk...........
-
For me Plechanov and Waterman are probably the stand outs with Crutcher as another. Can't really back it up as i never saw any of them.Of the modern riders i'd say Sayfutdinov even though his best was only 3rd so far......

Air Ambulance Rescues Speedway Rider
iris123 replied to peatbog's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Let's make this the most watched Air Ambulance ER in history.Maybe then other producers will think hard about including speedway in their programmes Together we can do this -
I'm getting pretty fed up as i keep taking a day off work so that i don't miss the debate on here and elsewhere when the news breaks.I'm running out of holidays.........

The 1980 Longtrack world final included Maier(LT world champ) Müller Mauger Olsen Collins Lee Spinka(Ice world champ) Michanek Penhall Wiesböck(LT wc) was disq Well obviously only one was a current world champ,so i wasn't even suggesting that
-
Do you mean apart from the meeting you mentioned or is the almost in the wrong place and you mean there was almost 5 world champions in the meeting? Seeing as Briggo + Fundin hadn't won the title at the time? 1981 we had Penhall,Gundersen,Nielsen,Lee,Olsen and Mauger or in the world final swap Ivan for Egon
-
Heinz Göldi was until recently racing ice speedway. He was unusual in a couple of ways.First he was one of very few ice speedway riders from Switzerland and second he only had one leg
-
Your skewed way of looking at things is showing you up.If we(sensible people) judge PC and Nicholls careers we would not just use British Final performances. It would help your argument if you kept it real.If you judge a rider you use his career as a whole.I won't say Nicholls is a better rider than most english riders of the 70s because he has won the Czech Golden helmet and they didn't because that would be a rather childish way to look at things.Similar to your way in fact

Barker & Worrall In Argentina
iris123 replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
Also, didn't Phil Morris try to arrange a tour with some British riders that got cancelled because of problems with the organisers? -
Barker & Worrall In Argentina
iris123 replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
Wouldn't be so sure of that.A few years back i had a talk with Hauzinger(who rode in the championship a couple of times) and he wasn't very complimentary about the organisation/organisers etc -
I know Phil comes out with some strange stuff sometimes, but he might have a point. It could well be a combination and that probably plays a part over a few years. Also what got me is that as everyone is travelling the same route back to Jutland(and i then went south to Hamburg)the queues at the petrol stations etc were massive and i think i had about a 30 minute wait to get served just to pay for some petrol as lots were buying beer,fags,food...... Was probably my mistake to go that route instead of the ferry to Puttgarden, but the Danes don't have that option. But whether that would put thousands off going??? I'd think more likely the number would be in the hundreds
-
That is the thing though,if you compare Harris and Davey you have to do it over more than the best season of their career. It was also a time when it was quite easy to up your average by changing teams for instance.I remember Mick Hines was 4th or so at Ipswich behind all those three and came to a poor Wimbledon team and upped his average quite considerably i think
-
They were pretty nice i give you that. But davey was the third best rider in the team and in a lot of other teams he would have been the third best rider. In a couple maybe 4th best and in a couple maybe 2nd best. That was his level and at world level he wasn't really on the radar. And you'd be a complete fool not to recognise that
-
Ha ha.You've convinced me He challenged for a helmet and in a two man race did well
-
Sid,you are like the knight in Monty Python who has no arms and legs and still wants to carry on!!!! Not sure what any of what you say is of importance here.He was the third best rider in his team and if he was in probably five other teams he would still be the third best(maybe 4th) and in another 10 teams he would be the second best or so.....He just wasn't that good.He would have been better than PC,Mort and maybe even Sjosten at Belle Vue and he wouldn't have been better than Mauger and Autrey at Exeter or Ashby and kilby or Simmo and Jessup or Betts or Crump or or or......He wasn't unlucky to be at Ipswich he just wasn't that good!!!! And Waihekeaces has summed up the reasons why he isn't better than Harris.I can't recall him ever winning anything of note and i was once at an SWC quali at Foxhall and i doubt Davey even got close to being picked for any SWC team, did he? You'll be telling us Bert Harkins was better than Andreas Jonsson next
-
Not sure what you are on about with music. You can go by taste and say they are better or not or you go by sales.Who sold the most is probably the best way to show who is best.I am not going to check out whether Deacon Blue sold more or less. But you really show that Davey wasn't that good by telling us he wasn't even the best or second best in his own team, let alone in the world.I need say no more
-
Whether you like Harris or not(and i am no big fan)he is regularly in or around the top 20 riders in the world, which Davey wasn't and that in a period that as we have seen wasn't as professional as nowadays
