  1. Sometimes I get the feeling John is having a competition with two short planks........the man who in a thread entitled Tai Woffinden asked who a poster was talking about Typo John.On my laptop the 'b' + 'n' are next to each other.Sorry
  2. Yes do that.I am sure there must be a firm that makes aprons for Masons. Then again there might be a firm that makes ware for Masons which might make things harder.I can't recall a rider wearing a leather apron or an Orange sash when riding though.I thought the Masons were more involved in marching and football than in speedway.Sure John will sort it all out in the end with the help of his mate Rob Mason, who will tell him whether or not he done a couple of meetings in Glasgow back in 1989
  3. Why not accept that even those that "were invited to play" don't want to.....Poole for instance.I know of another top man at a Danish club who told me he hoped they didn't have to enter this......Sure we are happy for those that want to see it,but it doesn't stop it being what it is.For those that want to see a good speedway meeting then I hope they all enjoy it,but it isn't anything more than a mickey mouse cup
  4. The clue might be in the title.Well that is what the majority of people would assume.........
  5. Ha ha.....I knew there would be a few moans about the sound and smell not being the same.Regardless,I envy you all as it looks like it might be a while before I get to my first meeting this year
  6. You'll be lucky....be sold out by then
  7. You didn't mention passports, but you have made a statement that seems to connect his not riding for the British team with his participation in the German championships.Like it has been stated he had pretty well no chance of riding for the German team. What he could have done is ride in individual championships like the world U21s as a 'german' rider. He might have been thinking of this during his disagreement with the British authorities. His friend was of course at the time the German manager and he might have even said Robert would get a nomination. But it could have been a dodgy path to take as it seems the DMSB weren't happy with the close connection between the two and i'd guess would be hesitant to nominate him.It might be in the rules that the top 3 or 4 in the German U21 final get the nominations, but who is to say the DMSB wouldn't change the rules if they thought Robert was taking this route?I know Stephan Katt had problems with the DMSB and hinted he would take out a French licence to get into the world longtrack championships. The French said they had no problems with this.......but......Katt had to enter the French championships and finish in the qualifying places.........
  8. This isn't "official" is it? And no,neither are Latvian.Grigori tried and failed to gain citizenship. Not sure how hard he tried. But Latvia made it difficult for Russians to gain citizenship. They basically made all Russians in the country immigrants after they gained independence. Also brought in a law that meant only people who were in the country before the second world war had claim to any property which effectively made people homeless.Well Russian immigrants for example and brought in a language test and other obstacles to gain citizenship.....
  9. In the end the German manager stepped down because the German authorities were not happy that he was working so closely with a British youngster
  10. 3 mentions in 1 post ....I am honoured. All I tried to point out was that there is a section marked "Future of speedway" The way ahead. It is the section for ideas and fantasies(at least about speedway) and of course it is best to put things in the right place so that people who want to contribute know where to find them. Hope you haven't taken it to heart
  11. Sad reality of the British speedway situation, but hope springs eternal....
  12. ....should hangs his kevlars up.My opinion, but the guy obviously has bags full of courage but should maybe take a step back and look where this is going. In a way it doesn't seem right to contribute to him carrying on,although I appreciate it is everyones personal choice
  13. Think he will be dropped like a ton of bricks as soon as there is a marketable alternative, imo
  14. No,no,no.......this is the business,as the dear departed Steve Shovlar said a few years ago......."let Poole host a meeting and the stadium will be packed" Trouble is no-one really wants the meeting.Which shows how mickey mouse the thing is.Terrible idea for speedway, although works well in other sports.Trouble is speedway doesn't work like other sports and now the FIM might try to change rules to make it work.....like trying to fit a size 12 foot into a size 9 shoe
  15. As a father of 3 children I don't have any sympathy with a serial drink drive offender. No matter what he has,he knows he shouldn't drink and drive and shouldn't ever be allowed to drive a vehicle on public roads again.I wonder if he has also been under the influence when taking to the track? He talks about responsibility!!!! I actually like him as a rider and saw a bit about the Swedish meeting in Croatia and thought he was looking good, but this is one time too many
  16. If you want to be a champion you have to live like one.Even if he had a few things to sort out(and there seemed to be some woman he was having problems with for 1),you still have to take time a few times a week to train.Blimey even normal folk who work all week and have problems, still go for a jog or down the gym to take their minds off things etc............sounds like another Bomber excuse
  17. Surely fantasy ideas belong in the ideas section and not in a section which is about promoting real meetings?
  18. Not imo.And I guess not in Gavans from what he saw.Seems fair enough to me. Maybe people don't always see a rider at their best. The one for me that springs to mind is Per Jonsson.Whenever I saw him he had a duff meeting. So if I was to list the best riders I saw riding,he wouldn't come very high up(probably lower than Simmo) even though for others and looking at his record,he obviously should do.... It is opinions and what you have seen. What isn't an opinion is things like Risager not being rated. That is a fact whether I,you or Sidney liked him or not...... In a way it is a pity a thread about a decent young British rider should be more about other riders than the kid himself
  19. Exactly."long while playing second fiddle" and to Terry Betts who wasn't one of the greats either.......
  20. It's all a matter of personal opinion.I saw Simmons a fair bit and wouldn't rate him among those others TWK listed.Nowhere near them really.Wasn't a big Simmo fan,and would rate Loram higher. In fact it took Simmo quite a while to really get going didn't it?He started out mid 60s and didn't hit the top until mid 70s....
  21. Sure there would be at least 10 great races including Peter Collins.I used to love watching him around Plough Lane and bet he was even better around Belle Vue.I was only the other week watching a PC dvd about his best year which included a few pretty good heats, but sure there were a lot of better ones
