  1. Far better than Ivan Mauger at that age.Ivan only got a 2.22 average in the old Southern League and in the top league only managed to get 1 meeting .Admitedly Ivan didn't have to ride the tricky Lakeside track though
  2. Don't they have track covers?Seems early call off.We have had pretty terrible weather and Wittstock called their meeting off days ago,but despite gale force wind, rain and even snow in the east of Germany which caused a 50km queue on one motorway they have training in Ludwigslust today and the meeting in Güstrow is still on as well.......
  3. And also it is young riders up in the big league now. That didn't happen years ago did it..........Ronnie Moore at 17 or Ivan Mauger at 17 or Mike Lee at 16 or or or......what about that no hoper Morten Risager? I remember a fairly young Phil Crump getting injured at the beginning of the 1973 season.Only had 1 or 2 meetings the whole season,i think Just going through the 1975 yearbook from A-D,english riders who rode in the top league at 16-17..not all in the same season obviously, but it was hardly a rarity even back in the 60s Terry Barclay Steve Bastable Terry Betts Nigel Boocock Les Collins Peter Collins Andy Cusworth John Davis
  4. Not even convinced riders didn't ride almost every night.Top riders in the 60s and 70s also rode most days of the week and on the continent at the weekend. They also didn't have super duper transporters to sleep in whilst someone else drove them around and the roads weren't as good as nowadays,so the journeys took longer. When you read about Ove Fundin or Barry Briggs and their week it was pretty much the same as Chris Holder or Tai Woffinden without the comfort. It is difficult to pin down if there are more crashes now,but less injuries or more injuries but less crashes or more of both or less of both, but my personal opinion is there isn't much difference. One year you might get more crashes but riders are lucky to get away without injury and another year have less crashes but more riders injured.Just the same as having bad looking falls but the rider jumps up and walks away or a relatively simple slide off that ends in a rider being paralysed....... At the end of the day I don't think there are any more injuries than in the 70s,so I must be right
  5. Zmarzlik replaces Kasprzak in Güstrow Line-up http://www.speedevent.de/mcg/index.php/2012-03-05-17-34-47/236-speedway-best-pairs-alle-teams-im-ueberblick
  6. Guess it is pairs that are riding and a reserve sitting in the pits, but in Ice speedway 3 riders are called a team like you point out
  7. Not sure it is worse than the start of any previous season over the past decade or so.Every year we seem to get a similar thread.Saw the wife and mum of a rider on the net a week ago asking riders to take it easy at the start of the season and get in the groove before going hell for leather.maybe there is something in that. How much practice do a lot of riders put in before they start in competitive meetings? Not a lot really because of the weather.I'd guess no matter when you start the season you'd get injuries from riders not top fit trying to give 100%,but if the season started later they would at least have more time to practice? And then we have new equipment that needs to get bedded in and the riders come to grips with it
  8. Any info on this super duper new computer system that Nicki was using in practice to tune his bike with? Only caught a bit of it,but Norbert + Egon on German Eurosport mentioned it twice at least
  9. Just thought it makes the event look better if you don't show empty seats. That was my opinion, but my girlfriend who isn't a speedway fan came and watched a bit and was impressed with the crowd. So I guess it is what part of the programme you watch and what your expectations are.Was a good start to the season, could have been better and I guess I wonder why such a big meeting is on so early in the season, but if the weather had been better maybe the stadium would have been packed.
  10. Probably not a bad attendance, but I sort of wish they would focus on the fuller areas instead of showing so many empty seats...........I know it is a cheat, but looks better
  11. Darcy Ward ..."the James Hunt of the speedway world" say's the commentator
  12. Would have thought that this early in the season the Poles having been starved of speedway would have filled the stadium a bit more
  13. Sidney, put your slippers on,pour yerself a brandy ,light up a cigar and relax......
  14. And imo about 98% of your posts are rubbish :drink:and i'm feeling generous today
  15. We know Sidney is Swindon through and through. He seen Martin Ashby week in week out and Bob Kilby what a gater was there any better Briggo what a legend makes the best dirt deflectors and no mistake was he the best maybe and he saw Sumner McKnight could he have made it if he stayed longer did you see him if you didn't you don't know what you are talking about get back in the kitchen
  16. There was some trouble between the DSL + Kanalsport towards the end of last season,so that is probably why no new deals was made
  17. No.BSI are mooted to be trying to get an official pairs meeting which will be under the FIM off the ground, but this isn't.
  18. So how many Poole fans have you spoken to sid?Ball park figure will do,like 10,20,50,100ish?
  19. 70%!!!! Where did you pluck that figure from??
  20. One of the first riders to be sponsored was that guy who rode for the Crusty Pye bakery up north
  21. Lot of Argies have Italian passports I think.Maybe she has one or can get one.Read that Italian workers used to work 6 months in Europe and then go to Argentina to work there in the European winter
  22. Seem to remember something about this concerning Simon Wigg riding on a Dutch licence and wanting insisting the British national anthem played.... There is though the complicated situation with Kylmäkorpi who has dual citizenship. Both Swedish + Finnish.Has appeared for Finland in the SWC and has also been named in Swedish squads though he hasn't so far ridden. But it got a little heated last year when he was named as the wc for the Finnish GP against the wishes of the Finnish federation I think. They had their man and the promoter had his.Maybe that is why this year there is supposed to be a quali meeting. But I still don't think he can swap at will each season riding for a different team
  23. Possibility could be to either ask a long time Glasgow fan like Paulco for instance directly or maybe even better one of the other riders in those races via facebook?
