Midget car racing in 1948 doesn't really help me with my question about speedway in the 70s though, does it?
-
There was another rumour of speedway starting at Charlton in the 70s.Was this attempt at the Valley?

For me, the PL went downhill when Mason Wear stopped sponsoring riders

Somerset And The Confederate Flag

See there you go again. You admit you were ignorant of the facts and then get all narky at the suggestion of education.I am always willing to learn and I hope that will never end.I don't know why you need to feel the need to suggest educated sensitive and sensible people want to cause offence.Like I said,if you are ignorant of the facts how can you form an educated opinion?Like you say,you don't really want to -

Somerset And The Confederate Flag

People can't make a reasonable decision if they are ignorant of the facts or they don't want to know the facts. In essence there is nothing wrong with german flags from the Kaisers period, but they have also been hijacked by racists and so people associate them with racists and in the end just the red, white black colours get associated with racists because they often wear clothes with those colours to identify themselves. We have even had problems here with some clothing company from Norway because it is associated with neo-nazis...... -
Somerset And The Confederate Flag

No you obviously didn't understand.I mentioned education or educating people to understand the full implications of the flag and how it offends a large number of people.Rather like other examples I have mentioned in this topic. You came back with some rubbish about why should people be told to be offended!!!! You obviously didn't understand, becuse no-one has said anyone should be told to be offended, but it seems reasonable that they should know that others are and is it really a symbol worth using.........Lack of understanding on your part without doubt or you are just trying to argue for the sake of it despite understanding. And there was an article on the Beeb about the use of the flag in other countries and of course there was no mention of it in Somerset !!!! -
Another opinion on the race from Germany. In fact it is from one of our old members "german speedway fan" Who states the ref was the only one in the stadium to think Gollob should be excluded. "gsf"'s version is Gollob moved slightly to the right and clashed with Nicki who was moving inside into Gollob.......Having watched the race on youtube I can't agree that Nicki moved inwards at all,so maybe it was just the guys opinion from watching in the stadium and he hasn't had the chance to see any replays? http://www.speedweek.com/speedwayem/news/78358/SEC-Landshut-Sayfutdinov-siegt-Smoli-steigert-sich.html

Having helped flattrack get off the ground, maybe that community could help out speedway?Have they managed to get any tracks of their own yet that a speedway team could use?

Leave gustix and his tinkles out of this.Anyway he has those rubber pants now,so can tinkle away in safety

Then you gave the wrong impression with your previous comment, which was misleading.I therefore offer a full apology See it can be done

I was being sarcastic you old fool.On this project, day 1 was when Marcel sat at his desk with a blank piece of paper and wondered what does the speedway world need,a brilliant new engine that needs less servicing.....it wasn't when he came to King's Lynn with a finished engine that had already been tested by some fairly unknown grasstrack guy called Schramm..........
-
Ok,so you are saying day 1 was when he turned up with a finished engine to race.I was thinking you meant like day 1 when the project got going.......my bad
-
Well i'd say King's Lynn was a hell of a long time after day one............
-
At a guess when Phil say's he has been close to this project I doubt if he has had much contact with Gerhard himself.More that he has heard things on the grapevine

Somerset And The Confederate Flag
iris123 replied to drvortexz's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Yes it is one of them.It is offensive,i guess because of what it represents, just like the Confederate flag and indeed just like the Japanese rising sun flag is controversial to some nations because of what it represents.Practically all the old red, white and black flags tend to be offensive in Germany because they are the colours that neo-nazis wear. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Japan -
King's Lynn V Team Fritte - 10th July 2015
iris123 replied to Mimmo's topic in National League Speedway
Jason is the youngest at 17 and just starting out on 500cc this season,i think. From memory might have been European 80cc champ.Mark Frimodt Pedersen is a close friend of Jasons and sort of gave up the sport after his 80cc career, but then had a change of mind.Patrick Bjerregaard is the oldest at 23 and raced mostly for Holsted.Peter Karger I am not sure ever rode 80cc,at least I never saw him,he just seemed to turn up on 500cc.Like I say,Simons father is a member here and can give detailed career stats, but started out on 80cc for Slangerup and now rides for Holsted,I think in div 1 as Slangerup had no div1 team.Jason looks to be the star of the future out of this group Doesn't work Bryn Finally found it and one correction I would make is that the youngsters in Denmark generally start out even earlier than 80cc as they have many 50cc leagues and about 150 riders at that level!!!!! Saw Emil Engström win an international meeting a few weeks back that included Rye House new signing Danny Maaßen(on his home track) and Peter Karger(who was disappointing) http://www.mscnordhastedt.com/Rennen-am-14-.-Mai.htm -

Very strange to have some young new talent over and give them no real mention. Also wonder that Tom Madsen was given credit for this when the "Fritte" name is synonymous with the Frimodt Pedersen family.Mark of course one of them and I know his father Henrik quite well and he is a very generous sponsor of youngsters and I think Patrick Hougaard when he was younger.Henrik and Partick Bjerregaards father also helped Arthur Sissis when he first came over for the 80cc YGT News from the Fritte website with an interesting article from last years speedway star there.Don't think any young brits have ridden in this years comp though http://www.frittecup.dk/nyheder -

Another use of what is a legal flag, but one that is often used by neo-nazis and caused quite a storm near me last year amongst the allotment holders.Again, there was no real reason to hoist the flag and the guy swore he wasn't right-wing,said he was just a fan of eagles, but eventually removed it and probably has now been kicked out o the garden community... http://www.bild.de/regional/hamburg/kleingaertner/hisst-reichsflagge-in-hamburg-37204558.bild.html -
Somerset And The Confederate Flag
iris123 replied to drvortexz's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Can't you understand a simple statement? It isn't about telling people to be offended. It is telling people that it is a controversial emblem that does offend others. It also has nothing whatsoever to do with Somerset,so there is no real reason to use it.So why use something that offends others when it is quite easy to use something more relevant to Somerset that isn't controversial. It just appears to me to be stupid and inconsiderate to continue with it once it ha been pointed out how offensive and controversial it is -
Somerset And The Confederate Flag
iris123 replied to drvortexz's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Surely you aren't saying education is wrong and leaving people to be ignorant is the way to go as long as they are happy? The fact that people don't know the emblem might be offensive to some doesn't make its use ok and we should all be receptive to new information, surely? -

Very impressed with Emil when I saw him a few weeks back.Patrick Bjerregaard is a good steady rider and Jason is one to watch for the future. He was always an exciting rider on 80cc -
I am biased as a Wimbledon fan of course.I think one season Wimbledon could have had the top 3 riders in the world in Huxley,Tauser and Lamont.Lamont and Tauser both won what could be thought of as world championships and Huxley finished second in one

The 1938 season is interesting for the fact that not only did Dagenham race at the track, but Romford and also West Ham Hawks used the track as their "home".Could be some sort of record having 3 teams out of the same track?
