  1. It is interesting how UK based the Stenner rating are and more international the Speedway Star ratings are.Don't suppose there would be much debate about the top riders apart from a place or two,but I was a little surprised that some of these relatively unknown(to me) riders were placed so high.Josef Kamper for instance and some of the Poles.Bet they wouldn't have been so high in the Stenner ratings. But this happens all the time.Get a British journalist rating the best footballers of all time and you would probably get more British players than when a German or Italian done the ratings.......
  2. How the heck we get onto which country a motorbike was made has something to do with which country you represent I will never know, but if that is the case then it almost means we will never ever have another world champ........weird,even for the BSF this!!!!
  3. Josef Hofmeister consistently just outside the top 10 for a number of years. We don't read much about him and even less have I read about the Austrian rider Kamper.
  4. I do agree. It shouldn't be necessary, but I guess BSI should state clearly when the riders sign their contracts that this must be the case
  5. I have a couple of copies of Peter Whites mag.The ones where my contributions were published in it
  6. The way I read it is the stand was going to be rebuilt. For a speedway track to be put in place the stand would have been rebuilt in a new area, rather than on the spot of the old stand.Obviously the new area would be quite near the spot of the old stand, but not exactly on that spot.So no moving an old stand to a new area
  7. Exactly. But they don't normally have a meeting the evening before on the track. And that is all with the weather being perfect....... Denmark used to rent King's Lynn at the start of the season, not a week or so before the SWC,i think.
  8. There are though exceptions to all rules.Top sports people for instance? If Australia need an Olympic champ or world champ.......
  9. Certainly good that Manchester get a couple of big meetings in their 1st season at the new track, but I wonder how wise it is to hold 2 meetings on consecutive days, plus I guess training as well?Or when do Team GB ride the track if they are seeded to the final?
  10. Nice work.Much as I thought really. That the end of the 80s saw a rise in abandonments and cancellations up until today.Riders less likely to ride in dodgy weather/conditions nowadays and it is one of the reasons I am less likely to travel when the forecast is iffy
  11. No,i am just saying at least Tai was born in the country, speaks the lingo and probably Richard the Lionheart nor George sang it.Tai has probably spent more time in the country than Richard did as well
  12. And come to think of it amongst the Royals........Richard the Lionheart wasn't too keen on England and hardly spoke tha language but is a national hero.Think a few other kings along the way were of a similar ilk.George I for instance I don't think spoke English....
  13. When I was a kid my dad and I guess almost everyone used to do an oil change for the car and tip the old..... stuff down the drains.Brake fluid and everything went down there.Didn't do us any harm
  14. I mentioned this a few years back, but it seems apt on this thread. But some years back we had a joint indoor speedway/mx jumps meeting. The speedway used the local Brokstedt dinosaur of a presenter and the jumps had a young lively presenter/announcer.The way the 2 sports came over was like chalk and cheese even to speedway fans/riders.In fact Smolinski made a statement that he thought the announcer made speedway look bad in contrast to the young guys upbeat style. Not long after the old bloke got pensioned off and the young guy has had a few speedway meetings.Normally the annual Whitsun holiday meeting at Güstrow where they attract a 6-8,000 crowd
  15. This all makes for very interesting reading(well I did get a little bored!!!) concerning Gerhard and a complaint from ex rider Richard Speiser that he nicked his idea. The lawyers are rubbing their hands at least http://www.speedweek.com//sandbahn/news/84022/Richard-Speiser-wurde-um-den-eigenen-Motor-betrogen.html
  16. I take it to be "what you see is not what you get"
  17. 3 seasons later and Matten is still a vital member of the Brokstedt team.Riding in the Budesliga and also the lower level 2.Bundesliga http://www.speedway.org/liga/2015/index.html http://www.speedway.org/liga2/2015/index.html
  18. Have never seen any results from these meetings. It is normally a case wen I am there someone say's "you should have been here when they used to have a meeting on the long track in the morning and then a meeting on the speedway track in the afternoon........." I should ask one of the guys if they have a programme or two to copy and send.
  19. http://mc-ludwigslust.de/unser-verein/chronik/ Used to be a long track next to the speedway track and back in the day they used to have a meeting on both tracks to find a champ.Simon Wigg and Kelvin Tatum are a couple that took part in this 1 day double meeting. The Long track has been turned into the MX track now
  20. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwigslust
  21. When I was at Ludwigslust the other week I did hear that Güstrow would again host a round
  22. As an historian John you should know that solo racing was the origins of the sport and in the UK the public very quickly got bored of that one dimensional aspect. and the team sport was developed to stop the early decline. That was very specific to the Uk and other countries didn't always follow suit. Some stayed mainly with solos and others copied the UK with differing levels of success.
  23. I wonder how many examples there are of riders losing sponsorship when they have dropped out of the GPs by failing to get into the top 8 or wildcard etc?
  24. You might put South Africa down to political unrest. The question is was it league racing or were crowds down in all forms of racing? And could you say the restarting of leagues in say NZ, and like I posted Holland, is the start of a new interest in that concept?
