  1. Ticket prices, not so bad as UK Martins friends told him they would be http://speedwaygp.com/event/teterow
  2. Actually putting your best rider at reserve is something that often happens in the ice speedway team championship.Germany had Günther Bauer at reserve last year.Russia had Nikolai Krasnikov at reserve in 2014(I think) and Austria used Franky Zorn at reserve in 2013......in speedway it makes maybe even more sense as you have more flexibility
  3. It's more likely to be The Surecare Plumbing services league and if the NL gets a sponsor, say The Utopia Hair-Beauty Aberdeen League, then no-one will know what is the top or bottom league........ I'm sure if they don't get the name exactly right, then a lot of people will just call it a day on this issue
  4. The major problem with one league is what do you call it then?It wouldn't be as strong as the Elite,so you can't call it that and it would be stronger than the Premier,so you really can't call it that.Calling the top league 'Elite' seems to give lots of people a problem,so I imagine this new big league will fail at the first stage of thinking up a name that will please everyone, before they even start on team building and rules.........
  5. I never really got into the artificial tension brought in by keeping the scores close. For me the excitement is on the track and how the racing goes, not the statistics in the programme. If the racing is poor I get bored even if the scores are close
  6. Ufa meeting was a big propaganda event for the Night Wolves.Race jackets all bearing the Night Wolves emblem and instead of strangely dressed Russian women dancing during the intervals,we get Night Wolves videos showing them in Sevastopol, the annexed part of Ukraine, etc!!!!! Politics + sport eh?Still apart from that I think the fact we only have 3 meetings shws the drop in the sport even in the Russian heartland and a gap is opening up between the top and the also rans. All is not well in the sport of ice speedway
  7. I guess the stock car world champ had far more than 5 seconds though..........
  8. Couple of good posts Dave.Don't agree with a lot of it,but you have put your points out thoughtfully One thing I would disagree with is your bit about Nicki that you think he would have won less in another era.It is hard to tell in one way,but in anther if you started swapping riders around eras then it is obvious that some would win less.If you put Rickardsson in the same era as Fundin and Briggs then obviously someone must win less. The same if Mauger was in the same era as Rickarsson.Nicki didn't win his titles by luck.In some years he totally dominated, just like Crump and then stragely in some years he looked a shadow of himself as did Crump
  9. It's always your argument sid when confronted with the stats, but just what Is your argument based on then if not the facts???? You've still got a hangover from last night mate.Go back to bed Trouble is Phil and I do agree to some extent,is that the friend or fan of Ove will come on and say if there was a GP system back then, then Ove would have won more.Or Mauger would have won more or what about just look at how consistent Leigh Adams was he must surely have won a title or two,but he didn't
  10. It doesn't matter what he averaged at first Sid.Some hit the ground running and others take time.I think it took Simmo quite a while before he got a good average.he steadily improved rather than burst onto the scene like Lee or Collins.Even one of my all time favourite riders,Tommy Jansson got quite a low average in his first season for Wembley. Not looked it up but I think it was under 3.......
  11. Calm down,calm down,calm down lad.You can't say things like that nowadays!!!!!
  12. Yes,but some people back them were in teams within weeks of taking up the sport. It was easy back then
  13. And after being a wobbler at first Sam Ermolenko became a world champ,so I am not sure what your point was saying he was a wobbler at first
  14. Yes i am sure sid.He only managed to beat the great Keith White and Mike Bast.Honest he did
  15. I'm sure if Tom Farndon gave one he would be devestated
  16. I was answering one of your posts, which aren't simple to decipher, but I thought you was saying when you first saw Sam he wasn't very good.I said when I first saw Bruce(and I reckon the person who started this thread is regretting it....)he also wasn't very good, but look what happened. So you should have kept your word and stopped posting
  17. Funnily enough I was expecting a few new faces to turn up.......but I thought they would start with the Ufa club itself.Moving a few friends into high places. But that is fast!!!! I was wondering today if there is more behind this than at first meets the eye.Is it maybe a way for the Night Wolves to parade through Berlin etc coming over as ice speedway delegates/officials?They wanted to parde through Germany into Berlin and were stopped. The boss has lived quite a while before in Berlin and has good contacts there.I wonder if we will see a Night Wolves convoy on the Berlin weekend
  18. I know I don't say this often,but that makes sense John
  19. I think according to some it must be a toss up between Bast and Buzz as to who is the most talented rider of all time
  20. Getting back to the topic,i was there in 1977 when Bruce came over to White City.He was pants.Only beat Keith White and fellow American Mike Bast
  21. Seems conclusive, but a photo or film showing one or the other in leathers is needed,i think Normally always have a photo of the full line-up.At least nowadays
  22. Are there any photos existing showing either Crutcher or Westerberg at the 57 final?
  23. Surely you are splitting hairs?Just like using Jason Crump(06 August 1975 born Bristol,England)
  24. People tend to forget how long it used to take to travel around from some parts of the country. The world is a whole lot smaller now than back then. And people tend to forget how long it used to take the likes of Fundin or Briggo to travel to and from meetings and not in the comfort todays riders have in their big mobile homes......
  25. Lee wasn't a local sid,he was a country bumpkin who lived miles away from London
