Yes some people have bad memories and other people make up stories Two occasions I remember Egon Müller telling what seemed t me to be untruths..... One time in a tv interview he said how he wasn't appreciated in his home country but was worshiped in England!!!!! Really not sure about that Another time,it was at the indoor meeting in Herning,Denmark a few years back during an interval he was interviewed on the centre and before he started to sing said "This was a big hit for me in England" Shock, horror again when I heard that, but not as horrified as I was once he started his song We shouldn't believe everything we are told

I thought Jouni was the top FIM man now.So surely he is the one who gives the track the FIM approval? -

Straw bales and safety fence and yes the high snow wall. I seem to remember it was unfair regs that caused Berlin to pull out of FIM meetings a few years ago.At least what they thought were unfair as other tracks got away with things Berlin were pulled up for.But to be honest surely straw bales are a minimum and a catch fence is preferable to a large safety zone, but necessary if the safety zone is not large.Sounds like chaos.Hope they manage to get it sorted..... -

Things Looking Brighter For Young British Riders

Actually I didn't even realise that Brendan Johnson has taken a break from the sport to my shame.I remember there was a nice Poole fan(yes there are some ) on here who was close to him and I think sponsored him.Best of luck to all of them -

I'm not sure who is coming back into the sport, that you are talking about, but I always have doubts.Think to my knowledge the only rider I know of who had a rest and came back that was any good was Ronnie Moore.Have seen a number in recent years including one who I thought was highly talented(Arthur Sissis) and others who people thought were talented like Charlie Möller,Jonas Raun in Denmark who never got back to anything like their old form. Will be interesting to see if Gjedde can get anywhere near his old form, but like I say it hardly ever works out -

Not realy sure what all this is about, but of course things have been looking somewhat better for a while now.We have a 2 time world champion and also a great prospect in Robert Lambert, who has been around for a few years now.So no surprise. Also a few young kids looking good for the future behind Robert, like Zak Wajknecht + Kyle Bickley. Can't work out the IoW connection though -
All a mystery. Are there any examples of advertising posters or newspaper ads etc to get the crowd interested? At least we have two more names in Ross Garrigan and Nigel Bird(who I must admit is a new name to me)

Maybe that is it.I feel sure the SS article stated they held the demonstration in December 1927.Think this was dismissed.

Poland 2016 Season Extraleague News
iris123 replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
To be honest it is all foolish working against each other.Typical of speedway. We once had Teterow and Güstrow doing the same.Just 30km or so apart but running meetings on the same night.I remember leaving Teterow early one meeting and on my way home came past Güstrow and their meeting was still running.Thought of stopping, and popping in,but only for a few seconds then rode on The trouble is even in Poland their muscles are getting weaker as we have seen this winter.Poland is also a country in something of a crisis and TVP are also a media company in a crisis.A number of top journalists have left in the past few days in protest at political interference.....Speedway isn't strong enough to have one league fighting against another. That does though largely mean the UK reducing the number of nights/days they want to run meetings As I said on the Champions league thread a new promotion company coming into the sport could well end up with even more in fighting, although it seems they want to keep the CL as a one off meeting at the moment,so any possible conflicts are at a minimum -
I was just going to edit my post again to say I am not a fan of either Greg or Tai.More a Nicki and Emil fan and I would love it to be Emil, but it is just my gut feeling over the past few years that Tai is the man
-
I would say I don't agree with the last one Imo Tai is the dominant rider of the last period Tai in the GPs has 163-121-151pts=435pts Greg has 147-140-129pts=416 So even though it is my gut feeling, the stats back it up at the highest level. In the leagues it might be slightly different

I thought one of the Australian historians mentioned there was no record of them coming over on a boat in 1927 and that they travelled with the group in 1928.Might be mistaken, but I was quite disappointed at the time that this incident seemingly never happened.Sure maybe the same person mentioned that McKay wasn't really a 'proper' speedway rider all in the same discussion. Is my memory that bad? It did seem absolutely reasonable to send a couple of riders on in front to get the public interested in the coming attraction of motorcycle dirt track racing.....

Thought I was one of the famous 17 John? At the moment I gave an example and wanted to hear from others and leave things open.If you have an opinion John I would love to hear it,otherwise I didn't really want the thread littered with waffle......

Was thinking due to the recent debate about false information on the net and even in speedway mags and books, who are the good guys who research and write great articles and who are the journalists who just lazily pass on wrong info to a new generation? I know Cyril May was mentioned just a couple of days ago and I do agree that I read his historical articles with interest. But I do recall mentioning on here an incident he wrote about when supposedly Billy Galloway and Keith McKay came to London and rode some demonstration laps for the press at Stamford Bridge(?)in 1927.This was a bit of pre-publicity before the arrival of the rest of the speedway pioneers from Australia. Now it seems subsequent posters debunked this if I remember rightly.Even if this was a mistake that doesn't make Cyril a bad historian or were his articles full of similar mistakes? And wasn't there an author associated with West Ham who had quite a bad reputation? So who are the good and bad guys

Ha ha,comedy gold as ever.Another self important post.Who gives a toss how many people you have on an imaginary ignore list?

A mild -7 here.Snowing for a couple of days now and by the photos of a friend in Stockholm today,we have more than they do.Took a train 20 hours to go 38km on sunday because of the cold!!!! Workmates brakes were frozen as well.......maybe mine are too but I don't have to use the car for a few days and it is due to get warmer again Surprised Conkers hasn't put the line-up for Ylitornio up.I am far too lazy -
I am slowly being won over by the "he was there" camp now.Micks post is a clincher.Where were you a couple of weeks back Mick? You could have saved a lot of research and a number of stupid posts by one ex journo

I am thinking in terms of another track that looks like it could be used day in day out for training.Doesn't look like the track is surrounded by any stands and if there is terracing well it is more a grass bank I guess. So fairly low key speedway meetings and all part of a motorsport complex. If they are more interested in motorbikes than cars, then all the better.Seem to be some positives in there if it actually gets built. The speedway track that is

I think sometimes, like the Brian Crutcher episode, riders memeories are faulty, especially in Egons case maybe when he rode in 1,000s.In fact it seems he won nearly 2,000 trophies and is prone to a bit of exageration as well.....
-
Well according to the man himself he thinks he wasn't there as he got a sicknote,so it is his word against John Hyams....... It's like wikipedia, speedway researcher all over again
