  1. It is often ridiculous, because I witnessed a meeting at Ludwigslust once where there was a run/off for whatever it was on the line and the two riders had agreed beforehand to put on a show and just rode side by side popping wheelies all the time. Neither was excluded and the fans were spilt between the ‘ it was great’ camp and the ‘ I have been robbed of a proper race ‘ camp
  2. I do remember an indoor meeting in Kiel, possibly 10 years ago with Tobi Kroner and Matten Kröger for instance. On a concrete floor and quite tricky. Think Tobi broke his leg the first day and so the field was quite depleted on the second day. Anyway, to get to the point, in one heat there were a number of falls or exclusions, and only one rider left, when the heat restarted. Not sure who it was, but he was excluded for not racing !!!!

    RON JOHNSON

A clip from the wartime Speedway Derby at Belle Vue where Johnson was pipped to the win by Eric Chitty, who got a 15 point max. Johnson on 14 https://www.britishpathe.com/video/speedway-derby-dublin-issue
  4. Well, when it comes to how or where i spend my hard earned money, i think i am an expert. The promoter doesn't stand at the gate and ask me how i manged to organise the money and time/journey to the meeting. If they organise and advertise a meeting for 15 quid, then i expect it to start and run till the end for that money. They can't say, sorry, we don't get enough money to organise it properly, you'll have to take it or leave it..... But i understand why you don't try to put together a well thought out post
  5. Doesn't surprise me that you don't care. You just want to make senseless comments
  6. If you put on an event where people pay to get in, then you should have organised it well enough to allow the people to see what they have paid for. Not get caught out and have to abandon said event, because you haven't. That is the deal Simples Saw Peter Schroeck on FB saying 'people don't understand what goes on to organise a meeting'.......well i don't care what goes on, neither do i care what goes on to organise a football match or a music gig....i pay my money and expect what is advertised
  7. History will not be kind to speedway !!! I think that train left the station a couple of decades ago…..

    RON JOHNSON

Think i recall that Ron lost a finger in a mechanical accident with his bike. And also list his driving license after racing through London and his female passenger was thrown out of the automobile then had an altercation with a police officer. Seems a lively character
  9. I commented a bit on this about a decade ago. The sheer drop in numbers in the Danish junior leagues and the lack of talent coming through. Phil Rising replied quoting erik Gundersen, that the next generation cming through were very good. But not a single one has done anything of note I was surprised looking this year that so many fairly average riders were now racing in Poland. So i guess they are suffering now as much as the rest

    RON JOHNSON

But then the meeting a couple of decades earlier were…. You might as well ignore Wimbledon’s meetings from the 20’s to the 90s and mention someone who might have rode in the revival period It isn’t just not the same , it is totally different

    RON JOHNSON

Not really the same at all. Especially seeing as there was also speedway in the 50s/60s also at the stadium, which i assume Larry Ross didn't take part in
  12. Well there is a restaurant near me called il gusto, and i am always reminded of Ol' Gustix when i pass by https://www.il-gusto-italiano.de/ I don't know if spam is on the menu though
  13. Your post seems to have reminded gustix, that you are a famous author
  14. Museum in Lahti, Finland has a couple of speedway bikes and an ice speedway machine. https://www.moottoripyoramuseo.fi/museo_english/
  15. First thought, was this probably belongs on New Cross memories......but
  16. Well it seems nobody is sure if Nosher ever turned up to watch the Dons. But there must be a long list of celebs who did.....

  18. No. See all this Al Holliday , Jimmy Gibbs stuff has been done to death on here repeatedly by someone. Mention no names. I can’t see the point of keeping on banging on with the same stuff I don’t remember them. Just the repeated posts. I wouldn’t watch repeats of Coronation Street either
  19. I don't remember them, but i do remember Barry Briggs. he used to have a record shop on Garratt Lane. Apparently a star of the time Tommy Steele was at the opening . Does anyone remember the shop ? maybe bought a 45 there. Maybe even from Tommy Steele . Apparently Briggo also opened up a driving school next door as well. A little empire started

  21. George Frederick Bernard "Nosher" Powell, stuntman and boxer, born 15 August 1928; died 20 April 2013 Along with his wife, he ran a pub ext door to the stadium. I wonder if anyone knows if he ever popped over the road to watch the Dons ?
  22. This is what i heard from Denmark at least The medical cover/Ambulance was neccesary on site because of the paying spectators. In Denmark at least, they could continue with a speedway meeting without medical cover, as long as all the spectators left the stadium. Plus of course the riders agreed t continue
