  1. Wasn't there another London football ground where it was announced speedway might move into?Down at Charlton Athletic in the 70s.Not sure what happened there apart from nothing much
  2. Just going back to the op,and this was discussed years back when Hans came in and went really well, but I can't remember the answer.Do Freddies points actually count officially?Sure I remember some saying as Hans wasn't one of the original 15 riders his points didn't count towards the title.....Sure someone will know the answer
  3. Not bad for a Reading fan.Worked that out in under an hour
  4. Not really sure what is interesting there. Most of the ebay things are no longer available to see.Just a strange guy called 'tulse hill terry' who is asking about the date of an item and a few posts later states It is all a bit weird and wonder if John Hyam has any input to that piece?
  5. I must admit to not being a big fan of Gerry Humble, but he got his place by right and when fit should ride in the remaining GPs Vote keep Gerry Humble in the GPs.Vote Remain
  6. The real drop in Andrews average happened in 1963 though. The drop in '64 was less dramatic
  7. I'd definitely say there should be some tiered pass, but whatever the tiers, and I think someone like PC or Olle Nygren should get a life time free pass, someone like a 'Rob Homer' shouldn't be considered as anything more than part of the paying public. You can't go giving privileges out to people who done a hobby for a short time with little success. They lived a dream and like I said before, got out of the sport as much as they contributed, which was very little
  8. Ignoring old dopey bollix(and no,i am not going to clarify who I mean although there are more than 1 poster who fits the bill)I think if free or 50 quid passes are going to be handed out then riders who have done 10 or 15 meeting in their career just don't really qualify imo. They have contributed about as much as a fan who has payed to get in for a season and they get no life time bonus.Think it is time to stop all this silly talk and look who has really contributed to the sport and give them passes.Riders who have done 10 seasons or someone like 'gemini' who has followed the sport for decades(by actually attending and paying to get in)
  9. Also not a great fan.2nd in the world in 1978.Could he have achieved that in a GP series?I don't think so
  10. Agreed.I know you saw Martin Ashby more than me Sid,but he was one of my favourite opposition riders. In fact he rode quite a bit for the Dons,so was almost one of our own.Never as good as the fantastic Peter Collins, but one of those riders the sport need
  11. People get into debt all the time and in all sorts of jobs. They don't get that sort of life time bonus or respect.Seems a very strange mentality.I wonder if fans could expect a life time pass if they also got into debt partly because of funding their speedway trips?Or if fans who attended 20 or 30 years of watching the sport could get a free pass as a thanks for their contribution, which is a lot more than someone who rode a handful of meetings over a 3 or 4 year period I was just a few weeks ago in one of the old coal mining areas of Germany and was shown the huses where they used to/still live and was told that ex-coal miners receive a lifetime supply of coal. But I imagine that is miners who had many years working the mines and not just anyone who ever worked a few months or couple of years
  12. No,i don't believe the riders do it for the fans. They do it for themselves, the thrill, the glory and the money. You got out of the sport what you put in,so why do you now expect some extra life time bonus?
  13. It seems all these years we the fans have been conned. They ain't doing it for our entertainment. They are doing it for a free pass!!!!!
  14. Bit of a cock up,that post,so I won't quote it.Trouble is with a forum like this,is that just a list of names that someone saw isn't very helpful or interesting.I guess it is something you don't understand,so I thought I would try and make it clear.People are discussing how good or what qualities a rider had and every time someone is mentioned and another poster pops in with "I saw him ride" doesn't bring us very far I enjoy reading about all these old greats and we have had some interesting stories and statistics, but they seem to come from people who never even saw them ride. And all someone who saw them ride can contribute is "I saw them ride"
  15. Maybe get criticized for pointing this out,but these threads are generally about more than naming a list of riders you have seen.Do you have specific memories of these riders or just looking back through old programmes and picking out names?Doesn't help much though,as I am not sure this is a thread abour riders you saw
  16. I thought a few years back he was in the less meetings camp and stated he lost money every time he opened the gates?Or was that someone else?
  17. Doesn't seem much point in speedway. If a team wants to move up they can and if a team wants to move down they can.We have had a number of examples recently. The trouble with having it in the rules is in forcing a team up that doesn't want to move up or forcing a team down that is financially ok in the top league, but might get into trouble in the lower. Even in German football teams lower down decline to move up because of the costs.Just had the case recently that in my regional league it ended up being the team who finished in 6th place that went into the play-offs as all the teams above them declined......
  18. I remember being at the Gelsenkirchen GP(the one that was raced) and a german journalist asked me what Freddie Williams looked like,if I recognised him,and I had to say I had no idea as I had only seen photos of him from the 50s and 60s and Freddie was far better known than Rob Homer
  19. Don't forget his payment up front from BSI,as I assume this top Dane paying that much out for a season is actually in the GP series And it does seems as if they are assuming he is starting from scratch, buying everything brand new and not selling anything off from the previous season?
  20. No point in trying to play one-upmanship because I understood who OveFundinFan was replying to and you obviously didn't.I have no doubt norbold Is cleverer than me though
  21. Sorry mate, you didn't make it clear enough what you meant.Guess with your modus operandi(Latin, plural:modi operandi) anyone could get confused
  22. Yes,but unlike what the original poster said, that isn't before he makes a profit...........
  23. Good stuff.Group of Finns go Leningrad?Never seen a red, green, white or whatever helmet colour before Have to ask f-s-p if he knows who the riders are or any of the others
  24. One or 2 football players in a similar position to Rune Holta or Tai Woffinden in France.Note the England goal scorer was born in England but grew up and learnt his trade in Portugal. The Russian goalkeeper Guilherme Marinato was born and grew up in Brazil and Roman Neustädter was born in USSR(Ukraine) but grew up and played for Germany and only got his Russian pass a couple of weeks ago just in time to make his debut on 1st of june
