2017 Grand Prix Venues
iris123 replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
They would surely have got a report or two here for winning a world title.I mean even the polish speedway team got a report http://dziennikzwiazkowy.com/sport/dps-na-zuzlu-siodmy-w-historii-triumf-polakow/ It isn't that you are wrong for suggesting it.The problem is you have to market it to at least the Poles. For that you have to really be sure you have at least 1 polish rider fighting for the title.Poles are very patriotic and it wouldn't be much good to have a GP where the top riders are Australian,Swedish or a Brit and the best Pole is 5th or 6th...A lot different to marketing a 2 time world champ or someone who is actually fighting for a world title...You first have to get someone who wants to take the risk anyway There was actually a small polish immigrant run speedway in the mid-west or chicago area.Couldn't have been very successful and possibly died a death as i haven't heard about it for a decade or so.......? -
2017 Grand Prix Venues
iris123 replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
But by the time Adamek fought in Newark he was already a 2 time world champ and having his 37th fight.Hardly an unknown and like you mention Szpilka was fighting for a world title. Not really the unknowns you said in your earlier post Speedway really lacks those ethnic minorities that you mention anyway apart from Poles. No Irish or Italian or German or Latinos in the series to sell tickets -

Have you any names of these polish unknowns? and what sort of venue capacity are you talking about?I find it a bit hard t believe that a polish unknown would be topping the bill in the US and is the reason for the venue being sold out.I know Irish are popular and of course some American boxers do try and cash in on their irish heritage.Mickey Ward and Gerry Cooney for instance Would this sell out crowd be a decent one for a GP? -

Teterow will sign a contract for GP until 2019 -
Could you compare him to Gollob? Gollob had a few years in the doldrums(for him at least) when i thought he should really pack it in.He finished 6th,7th,8th and even when he finished 4th he had a couple of really bad GPS and was way off the leaders anyway and with a few youngsters coming on the scene like Emil,i thought there was no way he was going to take a title, but he did at the age of 38-9.Wouldn't put it past Nicki to at least finish on the podium again if he gets some fast bikes

Oh dear, there is no end to the depths this guy will go.Even seems to have searched me out on the net and thinks it will scare me.Say's he won't give me the chance to reply, well what a coward Don't go sending me threatening pm's and think it will stay private. This is a forum and although some posts might be tedious to you myself and Ghostie were only trying to help. And neither i nor you have any evidence that Steve doesn't have better streams than you can find.Brandonbee put a link to a stream which i guess he could see,but when Sommelier and even i looked at it,there was nothing to see.It can and does happen.Stop acting like a big kid

Only managed to see hts 5-12,and like you say better than i expected and better than i have seen before there. Can't really make much of a comment, but looks like with a crowd of around 12,000 it seems a positive start they can build on.Whilst i think Güstrow is far the better place it would be great for German speedway to get two venues up north that regularly host big meetings.Obviously improvments to the infrastructure is a must(if Ole thinks Vojens isn't good enough, then what is teterow?)and to the track are needed Not sure about Smoli hoping for 1 of the wildcards though even if he did make the semis..........but who knows, if the money is there

Trying To Identify Rider Please, Any Help Appreciated?
iris123 replied to mallen1977's topic in Years Gone By
Does seem to be a link with the Lancashire emblem http://www.mcnews.com.au/william-dunlop-2015-duke-road-race-champion/ -
I see a german site has done a poll to ask who will win the GP So far it is neck and neck between Smoli and Greg with 10 votes, then Doyle with 9 and Antonio with 8

You could say those Russian riders who had their bikes pinched before a Wembley world final were out of luck!!! -
Oh dear.....if you look back someone asked a question and i tried my best to answer it.That was done and dusted and the subject was finished for a couple of weeks until someone else started it up again and i just gave some info to that. That is what threads are for. Then R&R had a light hearted pop at me and i had a go back.Nothing dramatic until the forum drama queeen came along. Phew......

Don't you pick on me or i will get all moody and threaten you with physical violence and pretend i am going to leave the forum I'll stop the interesting stuff now and let you copy and paste from sportowefakty

A little footnote to this......the 'by' in these Germanic Norse towns means something(not too sure) like village.Think it is also the same with at least one in the old Danelaw area of England(Grimsby) and getting back to speedway, possibly Hammarby?
-
Oh oh,just talked to a friend who is close to the teterow club and he is a bit peeved about incompetent people and when i said every time i have been there the track has been poor,he replied "It is guaranteed to be the same this time as well" Hope not for all those who have payed out for travel and tickets
-
Yes.The back straight also has loads of nice blue plastic seating now
-
Good info.Could well be right.I think in england we still use the original name Brunswick for the german city which is now called Braunschweig,so maybe that is the correct explanation for Copenhagen as well
-
Sorry I actually thought havn came from the german hafen.Harbour in english
-
Think you have misunderstood.I was talking about how we have a 'g' in Koebenhavn, not about the 'b'!!! And maybe i didn't write correctly, but at least in London when we say Göteborg i.e Gothenburg there is most definitely an 'f' there Just like when we say nothing,we pronounce it nuffink

Not really just a meeting, but a tour Boris Samorodov in the 1965 GB v USSR series fell in ht 2 of the first test at Wimbledon at that was his lot for the series -
Unfortunately you are very very very wrong Take a look at the history of Schwerin and its Palace.Right at the beginning we are looking at Polabian Slav tribe of the Obotrites. Not only that but in 1167 Henry the Lion(who i think is the guy who founded Munich and is probably the reason the city has the lion symbol and the name Löwenbrau beer) gave the County of Schwerin to Gunzelin von Hagen, but the rest of the country around the city to Pribislav of the Obotrites. The Dukes and Grand Dukes were all descendants of these early slavs, right down to 1918 when after WW1 all these royals lost their position of power Don't believe me just look it up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwerin_Palace https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecklenburg Also the history of Güstrow and you will see it comes from the Altpolabishen(i.e slav language) https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%BCstrow Certinly wasn't considered Prussia for hundreds of years. In fact some areas were ruled by Sweden until 1815 when they transferred to Prussia. Anyway back to the original theme about how to spell and pronounce Togliatti and the silent 'g'......what would be a far better question is why do we have and pronounce a 'g' in Copenhagen when the danes don't.....koebenhavn!!! We could then get onto the pronounced 'f' and 'n' in Göteborg
-
Yes that is in the Slavic east.North of Hamburg we have the old Danish influence in the names, which means the 'y' is pronounced 'ue',which confused me at first Brodersbü instead of Brodersby for instance.Or Rieseby,Nieby,Husby..... https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brodersby_(Angeln)
