Must be about the only club with a full time Press Officer as well.Is that right? And i think the person sort of blagged their way into the job in the first place

I think they are still waiting for that 450,000 quid they were promised from Prince Konobo for the 10,000 they sent him

Will it look like the Hancock jigsaw?A bit one sided.....

It is great that Manchester Council want speedway to continue.Be a bit weird not to after just building a new stadium though.... As for big meeting Phil,Belle Vue aren't the only ones in the queue.Sure other countries and stadiums also want their share and i'd guess a lot go to those willing to put up some money.maybe even out bid others.Plus there really are only a few meetings that will really attract a decent crowd and it seems the BSPA don't want what could be a great meeting in one of the SEC finals...... Plenty of people were doubtful about this project from the early days.It looks like, with good reason.Fingers crossed someone who knows what they are doing takes over

The Brexit sentiment runs through a lot of British thinking. We didn't want to be involved in the Football world cup when it started and we weren't really keen on the European Cup either. In speedway we haven't got involved much with the European Championships and the SEC.We have a fair number who don't want to be involved with the EU.I note Phil Rising hopes that the Belle Vue stadium gets some big meetings from the FIM though...... I agree we should be creating product that attracts riders who want to be involed. We need to create a product that makes fans want to see it.The big trouble is we have a p poor youth training scheme. We don't produce riders of world clas quality with any regularity,so rely on foreigners. The pool of riders is only getting smaller and by trying to go the isolationist route we are shooting ourselves in the foot, both on the political and speedway front

Well Marvyn Cox rode in(and won) the German Final in 1993,2 years after Zoltan Adjordan won it and a few years before Todd Witshire won it.In the same year as Todd won his second German title Ales Dryml finished 3rd.Just a couple of years before his brother Lukas also finished 3rd

Doesn't really make sense. You go to football in winter, but would rather stay at home in the warm. And football in more and more every day of the week,so you never really have a pattern of which day of the week your team will play. The old fanzine 'When Saturday Comes'........those days are long gone and crowds have risen since that was the case But they have gotten out of the habit despite it being once a week.So has no relevance. They have lost interest because of some reason other than the day of the week
-
I agree. For a lot of people who have the time and money there will always be another track they can visit if they can't follow their team to the away meeting,so it will boost crowds elsewhere. The sport flourishes crowd-wise in Poland and Sweden with fortnightly speedway.Their fans don't suddenly forget there is speedway on or start doing something else,so i am not sure why peple always think fans in the UK are any different
-
Never bought into this idea that if teams raced once a fortnight people will get out of the habit.2 answers.....football and winter Football seems to prove people don't get out of the habit of fortnightly sport.Quite the opposite The winter break is far far longer than two weeks.Let's not have a break in case people get out of the habit!!!!

I personally have no problem with a rider tactically doing what is best for his team.I had no problem with (was it Nicki) doing the best for Denmark in the SWC by not getting Denmark far enough ahead so that their close rival could use a joker. That surelyis sport and winning is what it is about. But in an individual meeting by not doing your best you are corrupting the results not for yourself, but for or against one of the other riders. And that is just unfair on most of the other riders and importantly to the fans....

Wildcards 2017.....
iris123 replied to Panthers89's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I was just putting up something from Smoli.I don't agree with it 100% myself either.Smoli though has it the other way around. He can see if Sweden needed a home rider in then Lindgren was the obvious choice, but he didn't see the need for Vaculik to be there as well.Trouble iif you have home wildcards then it is normally going to go to a rider that has been knocked out in a previous round.Think in reality it isdifficult to have a meeting of 16 riders without at least 1 rider being there that hasn't been knocked out previously.Do you though allow them in without allowing them the chance to qualify? They are elligible for the meeting, but ineligible for the GPs -
WHEN you read the contributions to this forum by Phil and gustix, you really wonder what job interviews at the Star were like. But i guess they haven't improved much going by this 'contribution' by Burbidge.Letting their readership down by not giving the whole story

Wildcards 2017.....
iris123 replied to Panthers89's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
According to Smolinski it was unfair that two riders who didn't qualify from the semis then get into the Challenge and qualify for the GPs.In his eyes the 3 to go through should have naturally been himself,Dudek and Bjerre We also have some conspiracy theory going round in Germany that two Red Bull riders get WCs....... You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time,but....... -
Comparison - Speedway To Other Sports
iris123 replied to BFMDan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
That is the trouble.US sports are a bit of a mystery to a lot of us over the pond. But for example today in the paper was a list of the top payed German sportsmen and 2 o the top 4 were NBA basketball players, one of whom i had never even heard of.The other 2 were Formula 1 drivers and then a load of football players. But if the 2 NBA players were earning more than the top footballers then you can be sure that speedway riders aren't in that sort of league -
Hope to get to either Berlin or Heerenveen
-
Understatement of the year,mate.....even more of a cheek that it is only 2 euros cheaper than the German Championship.I could use a few swear words here, but i will restrain myself, just this once
-
I don't know....forgive me forlaughing, but for days you have been saying it is crystal clear and there is nothing to interpret.I mean, you don't disappoint, you even do it again in this post.....then go on straight after to give us a new interpretation of what the rule is supposed to be for
-
But it doesn't say for the season, just the remainder, which as PR mentions doesn't mean his points up to that point are void If one or 2 of these lawyers are so certain of the wording let them take the case on.Bet they wouldn't and i bet the FIM have a lawyer who is also certain they are in the right
-
Even if the rule means he should be out of the world championship(which i and others don't think it does) the FIM don't agree. How often in speedway do the authorities have their own interpretation of when the rules apply?Importantly i wonder who writes these rules? If it is the same person that writes some of the FIM press releases then their first language isn't english anyway. Undoubtedly though,Hancock should be punished for his actions due to the heat 9 incident. One action that could be possible, although unlikely is for a fan(an American citizen who was at the meeting) to take action against Hancock or the FIM for robbing them of an honest end to the world championship.Employ an American lawyer to look into possible corruption,as the US has done with FIFA?
